Bug Bat helps zap pests

May 11th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

bugbat.jpgWith summer rolling around pretty soon, it is just about right for pesky bugs to start making their annoying appearance as well, especially at night. While spraying some sort of insect repellent is a pretty neat idea, why not take the fight to them instead of remaining a pacifist? After all, didn’t the old proverb use to go, “He who runs away, lives to fight another day”? The Bug Bag aims to ensure that no insects will be able to run away and do the horizontal tango with another of its own species in an effort to procreate. It accomplishes its task by simply frying them with a powerful electric shock. Now I am sure that there will be some curious folks around who will want to feel just how much of a pain it is, let me just ay that there is more than enough juice to send a sharp sting down your finger when you touch it while turned on. Future Jackass directors, take note!

Cup eliminates the need for a stirring spoon

May 11th, 2008 by Chris in Conceptual Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets

Stirring cup

I’ve never been much of a drinker, so the strongest thing you’ll usually find me drinking ins Mountain Dew. I don’t drink fancy coffees or teas, so I don’t normally have issues with spoons. However, if you’re wanting to eliminate this pesky utensil from your drinking routine, this cup would be the perfect way to do just that.

Perfect Spheres of Ice

May 8th, 2008 by Mark R in Kitchen Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Perfect Spheres of Ice

One of the things that I love about airline travel is the ice cubes in the drinks they serve. I always liked the cylindrical shaped cubes that were somehow hollowed out in the middle. Somehow, they were always better than the cubes that you crack out of the ice trays at home.

It appears that a Japanese company has cornered the market on unusual ice cube shapes with the Ice Mold, a spherical ice cube maker.

Silhouette Smoke Alarm Syncs Your Home Safety

May 6th, 2008 by AndrewD in Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

silhouette2.jpg

Smoke alarms are such effective tools for keeping you and your family safe that they are actually mandated by law to be in every room of your home. Your most important priority (or at least it should be) is to keep your family safe, and because of the smoke alarm, many lives have been saved, spared from being engulfed in flames.

Smoke alarms have come a long way from their introduction into the household, but are still a decent ways away from being a foolproof safety plan. It is hardly completely reliable. And while style might not be the main concern for smoke alarms, they certainly are a damper on some home decor.

The slim-line Silhouette Smoke Alarms by Kiddie introduce a new sleek design of alarm to be integrated into your interior decor, which uses a low-profile form factor to better integrate into your home, yet incorporates the safety features of past smoke alarm designs and then some for a full-on smoke alarm revolution.

StairSteady Handrail helps the elderly up and down

May 6th, 2008 by Chris in Medical Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

StairSteady

I’m fortunate to be a fairly healthy guy, and feel bad for those that have difficulty getting around. While I could imagine that someone that relies on a wheelchair or cane would have a hard time just about anywhere, I would bet that the stairs are the worst. Now if those stairs are in their home, that would be even worse. Thankfully this cool device can help out those that have difficulty getting up and down stairs.

This StairSteady Handrail was actually a GCSE coursework project that was later turned into a full-fledged product. Essentially what you have is a horizontal bar which runs along the handrail. This allows a person to evenly distribute their weight between both hands, rather than just relying on one. There’s no word on when the StairSteady will go on sale, but the installation kit will run you somewhere around $650 and should work with most stairs.
