April 1st, 2008 by Mark R in GPS gadgets

Rickshaw GPS Sunglasses

According to a certain source which I cannot verify, many accidents are caused by a driver being distracted by their GPS device. I guess that makes sense, considering where we usually put them. I guess drivers are looking so hard at where they are supposed to be going that they aren’t looking at where they are going.

So why not put what you need on your sunglasses? This is the premise of the Rickshaw GPS sunglasses, which have a tiny video LCD with pure audio feeds. All maps are supplied on MicroSD cards, so you have complete navigation without every having to look at a separate screen.

Sony seems to be dipping their fingers in just about every segment of consumer electronics, including the personal navigation device (PND) market. The Japanese company has just announced a couple of new models known as the NV-U73T and NV-U83T which are readily available at retail and online stores for approximately $300 and $400, respectively. If you have used any type of PNDs before, you would notice that they all offer pretty much the same features, and it is no different with these two Sony offerings. Pioneer AVIC F500BT

Pioneer wants to get its hands in the auto navigation and auto multimedia market with the creation of the AVIC-F500BT. Pioneer calls the F500BT a “hybrid”, and that word is getting thrown around a lot within the auto industry, it applies to this automotive device as well.

NDrive G400 PND knows when you’ve had one too many

February 21st, 2008 by Mark R in GPS gadgets, Drinking Gadgets

NDrive G400 PND

Every once in a while, some new gadget comes along that is so obvious that you have to wonder why someone else didn’t invent it.

The NDrive G400 PND is one such device. At first, the NDrive G400 looks like any other Personal Navigation Device. It has a 3.5 inch screen that is completely touch-friendly, along with the usual application menu of a GPS.

What makes the G400 stand out is that one of the applications is a breathalyzer test. That’s right, a device that helps you drive can actually recommend that you don’t drive. All you need to is touch the application, wait for it to calibrate, and then literally blow into the device itself.

Nextar I4-BC Navigation System

February 7th, 2008 by Mark R in GPS gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

Nextar I4-BC Navigation System

I believe that a large majority of the population of the world have not driven with a GPS device or navigation system. I would have to say that is a crying shame, because I look forward to a world where everyone has a GPS, and no one ever gets lost, again!

Okay, I am dreamer. However, I would have to say that the GPS market is soaring right now, and one good example is the Nextar I4-BC Navigation System.

The Nextar I4-BC has a 4.3 touchscreen, and works directly from the box. All a user has to do is turn it on, and it figures out exactly where he or she is in minutes. The menu is simple to use, and easier still to enter an address and get going. The text-to-speech vocally guides the driver along the way, and recalibrates quite quickly if a wrong turn is made.
