Mio Knight Rider GPS navigation system gets official

by Edwin

Have you picked up a GPS navigation system for yourself yet? If you have not yet done so, make sure you shortlist the Knight Rider GPS navigation system from Mio. Yes, it has finally gone official. Inspired by the original Knight Industries Two Thousand (a.k.a. K.I.T.T.), you get to impress your lady friends and blokes (I suspect the latter group would be more excited at the sight) with some magic from the original TV series as you make your way across town to your destination within the shortest, most efficient route possible. Just in case you’re wondering what the level of authenticity is like, you’ll be pleased to know that the Knight Rider GPS comes with a Knight Industries-approved LED display and custom voice files for that added touch of realism.

Dash Navigation updates Dash Express

by Edwin

Dash Navigation has made available an update for the Dash Express, making it the first Internet-connected automotive GPS device from its stable that allows one to wirelessly update the device software without having to purchase upgrades separately while going through the hassle of installing them through a PC or DVD download later on. All you need to do is turn on your Dash Express and the updating process will kick in – provided you’re within range of a compatible Wi-Fi network, that is. Sounds like a no-brainer to me, somewhat akin to Windows XP’s Automatic Updates. Check out the new features that comes with the update right after the jump.

Garmin Astro GPS Dog Tracking System

by Edwin

Garmin does not only come up with navigation solutions for those who have a bad sense of direction on the road (and maybe even in life), as they cater to pet owners as well with the latest DC 30 GPS dog tracking collar that is meant to be used with the Astro GPS Dog Tracking System. This new collar offers a toughness that is superior to its predecessor, and you get differently position antennas for optimal tracking. According to Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, “The new DC 30 collar is designed to stand up to the torturous abuse of hunting dogs. Whether it’s hounds crashing through thick and swampy woods, or bird dogs bounding through dense CRP fields, the DC 30 is made to take the beating that working dogs dish out daily. And the new configuration also makes mounting the collar a cinch – while improving reception.”

Sat Nag keeps the humor going

by Edwin

Never mind if you’re lost without a GPS navigation system to help you out – the Sat Nag is more than capable of breaking the tension by coming out with some real funny lines. Of course, once you’ve heard them all it gets old pretty fast, but still, the novelty is there.

Press the button on the front and a very well-recorded, patronising woman’s voice will come out with one of a host of hysterical Sat Nav-type commands. With such crackers as: “I know you’re a man, but it’s been 35 minutes now, so can you please admit you’re lost and ask someone the way”; and “In 100 metres turn left. No right, err, no left. Sorry, I never can tell my left from my right”, as well as “In 50 meters I’m going to put on my most annoying voice and say ‘Is your short cut really faster when we get stuck in traffic like this, well, is it darling?” and “In 100 meters I’m going to talk to you in that special voice, which should let you know you’ve upset me in some way that is bound to be your fault”.

I trust you won’t find the £7.99 price point to be an obstacle?

Knight Rider GPS from Mio

by Mark R

I believe that we have covered Mio GPS products before, such as the Moov 310 and the C720t. Mio’s latest GPS is more than just your average upgraded GPS with a new number.

No, Mio has developed a new GPS based on none other than Knight Rider. It seems like an obvious marketing plan to model a GPS after this show. After all, Knight Rider introduced us to K.I.T.T., the car that talks back, and GPS units have been talking to people for quite some time now.

GPS Navigator uses a Teddy Bear Interface

by Mark R

See this Teddy Bear here? He isn’t just a soft cuddly toy, but a GPS Navigator. That’s right, when this guy goes out to the woods today, you had better come along. In fact, he’ll even give you directions to the Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

Not only will this Teddy Bear, designed by iXs Research Corporation, give you audio directions, but it will also point with its little arms to tell you where you need to turn. By the way, there is some sort of alcohol detection sensor around its neck that prevents you from driving if you are too drunk.

This thing certainly looks cute. However, I have no idea how a user sets its destination. After all, there is no screen on the thing. Well, you got to give iXs Research Corporation credit for trying a completely new design for the GPS.

The PSP will soon have GPS

by Chris

I recently bought myself a GPS, however, I don’t always keep it on me. Which from time to time I have regretted, but I tend to have enough gadgets on me that I don’t want to be carrying one more. Yet, my PSP never leaves my side. For those who feel the same way, or just prefer gadgets that take care of several functions, GPS technology coming to the PSP is extremely good news. Unfortunately, this would mean that while riding shotgun if you need to use the PSP for GPS navigation you won’t be able to kill time by playing games.
