Sony’s new quartet of personal navigation devices

by Edwin

Who’d know that Sony would actually delve into the world of GPS navigation as well? I thought that the consumer electronics giant were pretty happy with their line up of flat TVs, high definition gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, but a Personal Navigation Device (PND)? Word has it that Sony recently announced four new PNDs under the model numbers NV-U94T, NV-U84, NV-U74T and NV-U44. In addition to helping you get around, these PNDs will include more brand icons, search functionality as well as photo viewing features so that you won’t get too bored while locating where’s the next rest room while you’re on the freeway.

by Edwin

Arkon will be making available premium upgrade aftermarket car mount bundles for both the Mio Moov and Navman S-Series GPS, and each of these mount bundles comprise of a custom cradle adapter as well as a location specific pedestal that is meant for use in the vehicle itself only.

Users can choose from a variety of different mounts that attach to the windshield, dash, cup holder opening, lighter socket, sun visor, and air vent locations. Arkon offers the most extensive lineup of car mounting solutions for use with Mio, Garmin, Magellan, TomTom, and other leading GPS makers.

Seek Portable GPS Device Fits on the Wrist

by Mark R

A few days ago, we covered the Suunto X10, a GPS device that fits on your wrist. While there may not be a huge market for the GPS on the wrist, some concept designer apparently has a plan for a wrist GPS boom.

The designer, Jukka Roitto, has taken the wrist GPS one step further by putting a search engine and navigation guide on his concept model, which he has dubbed the Seek. The name may be simple, but what the Seek does is pretty complex.

The Seek is meant to help a person look for local attractions in an area, such as theaters, restaurants, or clubs. So, if you’re in a strange new town, and you’re looking for a place to eat or have fun, just Seek and you will find!

AvMap Geosat 6 Drive Safe system now available

by Edwin

AvMap has just made the announcement that it will release the Geosat 6 Drive Safe satellite navigation system that was originally developed for the Peugeot 107 Sweet Years as a stand-alone navigator for the masses. Think about it – you don’t have to worry about not having to fork out a huge bunch of cash just to get a free car with this GPS navigation system (I suppose that depends on how one looks at the situation, of course). More on the AvMap Geosat 6 Drive Safe system right after the jump.

Keruve GPS Watch for creepy stalker types

by AndrewD

Aren’t you glad you gave your girlfriend that Keruve GPS Watch? Now you can track her every movement and see what that harlot is up to at all times. And you can also be issued a massive restraining order. But that’s for another discussion. Let’s stick to the topic at hand, shall we?

Originally marketed to Alzheimer’s patients, the Keruva GPS Watch can also be used for some suspicious privacy invasion, as well as tracking your kids in scarily close detail. The device looks just like a normal watch, except the user can’t remove it without having access to the proper mechanism. So once it’s on, it stays on until your stalker wants to remove it.

Teen using GPS Data to fight a traffic ticket …

by James

Talk about turning lemons into Lemonade. The parents of 18-year-old Shaun Malone, placed a GPS tracking device into his car to make sure he was obeying traffic laws. The model they installed would email them if he ever went over the speed limit and they could check in real time to make sure he was where he said he was going to be. So, when Shaun was caught by a police radar going 62 in a 45 mph zone last summer, his parents were shocked because they had data to refute the claim by police that their teenager was speeding.

Becker GPS Z100 Crocodile

by Edwin

Don’t worry, this GPS navigation device won’t eat you up if you fail to make the right turn at it’s instructions. The Becker GPS Z100 Crocodile is dubbed so since it comes with an outer casing that resembles a croc’s scales. Features include a 4.3″ widescreen display, maps of 40 countries in Europe thanks to Navteq (that comes in a 2GB SD memory card), an SD memory card slot, support for live traffic information and is powered by the SiRF Star III GPS receiver chip with the SiRF InstantFixII functionality. There is no word on pricing or availability, but this makes it look more of a ladies’ GPS system no thanks to the croc-like case.
