Getting lost is no fun, not when you have a bunch of kids sitting in the back row who can’t stop asking the question, “Are we there yet?” Having a GPS navigation system is more or less indispensable these days, especially when driving around has gotten so much more convenient. For folks who tend to drive out of state frequently and head off to unfamiliar places, toting a GPS navigation system is a God-send since you don’t have to worry about folding up any maps once you’ve got your bearings, and there is always the software to blame before your wife lets loose on you a verbal tirade on how you are too stubborn to stop by and ask someone for directions. Hey, you asked the GPS software, didn’t you? TomTom is offering yet another model for the masses – the White Pearl, which is a special edition navigation product with a twist.

Travel Honey GPS Location Finder from Chinavision

by Mark R

travel_honeyHave you ever parked your car in a large parking lot, and forgotten where it was? From there it becomes a quest. I remember when I visited Walt Disney’s EPCOT Center and it took me a half-hour before I could find my rental car.

Now if I had the Travel Honey GPS Location Finder from Chinavision, I would have found it right away. That, or I could have written down the coordinates as I left my vehicle behind. Of course, this is why we have technology, right? So we don’t have to write things down on scraps of paper.

With the Travel Honey, you get out of your car, then push a button on the GPS location receiver and finder for two seconds. After you are finished with your business or pleasure, you push the button again, and an arrow will point to where you need to go.

GPS Tracking is now legal in the US

by Mark R

gps-useEven though we are a quarter century past 1984, I am glad to say that Big Brother is not watching us. That is, unless we want to be watched with our webcam. Yes, we clearly live in a world that we never saw coming, and I am also glad to say that we don’t live in the dark dystopian world predicted by science fiction.

However, we may have taken a step toward a surveillance society last week, as a Wisconsin court ruled that the police can covertly attach a GPS tracking device to a citizen’s car without a warrant.

Apparently, it is okay for the police to plant their trackers because “GPS tracking does not involve a search or seizure”. Of course, one could argue that having the authorities track your whereabouts could be viewed as some sort beginning of a civil rights violation. I’m sure you can understand how the ACLU sees it.

Trac-King GPS device from Rocky Mountain Tracking

by Edwin

trackingThere are dime a dozen GPS navigation and tracking devices in the market these days that it can get pretty hard trying to figure out which is more suitable for your personal use. Rocky Mountain Tracking, Inc. (RMT) has recently added to the number of GPS devices in the market, although their product has the potential to be the most innovative device yet. Known as the Trac-King (GPS Tracking) device, this convenient and portable-passive GPS will be powered by a couple of AA batteries, where those simple, readily available batteries will be able to juice up the Trac-King for up to 80 hours of continuous movement on a single battery cycle. Useful when you’re on long road trips and visiting countries where power outlets are not easily available -there’s nothing quite like the widespread availability of AA batteries to help you out here. Of course, it would be better to obtain rechargeables that can be juiced up using solar panels.
