I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but it seems like more kids are getting into trouble, or worse, ending up missing. It seems like everyday I hear a news report about a child abduction, or a missing mom… there are Silver alerts on the highway warning us to be on the lookout for a “lost” senior. I don’t know whats going on, but it does keep me up nights. I remember when I was a kid, wandering the neighborhood for the entire day, coming home in time for dinner, its not like that anymore.

Breadcrumb is offering a unique location technology software that is able to provide parents or caregivers the ability to view the precise location of their family members right from their Smartphone, or any Internet connected computer. The software also allows children to send a request for help to their parents with a simple push of a button on their Smartphone. A parents dream, a teenagers worst nightmare.

The software also allows you to receive special alerts on your Smartphone via text message when a family member arrives at a specified destination or has traveled outside agreed upon boundaries. The program does not however, disclose the location of the parents, of course maximizing punishment potential when your kid tries to tell you they’re at the library and you’re standing outside the party.

Optionally, with Breadcrumb’s Automated Vehicle Locator you can also view the real-time location of your family vehicles on a Google or Bing map, also right from your Smartphone.View the travel route of your vehicle each day, and receive optional alerts when a family member is exceeding the speed limit on the highway.

Basic service starts at under 8 bucks a month per person (I’d almost pay that to find my Smartphone everyday) and enables you to find your kid within 9 feet of their location in about 3 seconds… Like I said, its not like it used to be..

Gone are the days when you can trust your little one to have some fun outdoors without worrying yourself silly over whether there is some weirdo out there who is stalking your kid. This has led to a growth in the market of child security, where devices such as kid-friendly cell phones as well as emergency buzzers have been released, and this time around we have mobile carrier AT&T work with Amber Alert GPS to deliver the V3 child tracking device.

This particular device is said to be able to keep parents notified of the current location of their children so that they need not worry themselves to a head full of white hair, but rather, let nature take its course. Just how flexible is the V3? Well, for starters, parents are able to create Zones around their home, neighborhood, school, soccer field – basically a perimeter along a selected area, and be on the receiving end of an email or text alert whenever their child enters or exits a Zone.

Not only that, the V3 ought to deliver even greater peace of mind upon knowing that it has integrated its tracking with the National Sex Offender database, helping alert parents of the situation whenever their child is within 500 feet of a registered sex offenders home. I suppose this is not that fair on the sex offender who might have reformed during the period of incarceration, but the onus is on the offender to gain the trust of the public, no?

The V3 device also sports an SOS button so that children are able to activate it in order to alert their parents should they happen to be in a fix (being out of dough at a 7-11 does not count as an emergency!), and parents are able to pinpoint the location of the child in a jiffy. Other features of the Amber Alert V3 comprise of speed alerts and bread-crumbing that was inspired by Hansel & Gretel so that their movement can be tracked at specific intervals, as well as one-way voice monitoring.

You can place a pre-order for the V3 today – what are you waiting for?

When it comes to backing up your vehicle, not everyone finds it as easy as you do – or perhaps, you might even fall into the category of preferring to parallel park instead of backing up vertically! Well, fret not – there are devices out there in the market that will help you out of this particular dilemma, including a back up camera, but what happens when a GPS company like Magellan rolls out their Back-Up Camera companion device? This will play nice with the RoadMate safety series of car navigation units, letting you reverse and park more safely.

Working in tandem with this camera would be a Safety Series GPS navigator that will expand Magellan’s focus on safety and security the entire time you are seated within your vehicle. It will kick off whenever the Back-Up Camera kicks into high gear, helping you reverse out safely from your driveway, and will continue working throughout your entire commute with premium GPS navigation features. The time it clocks out? When you park your car without causing any damage to property around you, followed by shutting off the ignition.

The Magellan Wireless Back-Up Camera will be attached to the vehicle’s rear license plate, where it will transmit images directly to the generous 7″ high resolution screen of a RoadMate 1700 or RoadMate 9055 GPS device. Whenever you engage the reverse gear, the GPS navigator will automatically switch from map to rear-view mode, letting you see just what is below the rear window.

Being both dustproof and waterproof to IP67 standards, the accompanying wide-angle viewing lens will deliver a 120-degree viewing area right behind the vehicle. Its transmitter that is located within the car’s trunk is also water resistant (to IPX4 standard). Boasting a 45-foot range and a 45 degree camera vertical adjustment, the transmitter ought to be able to play nice with just about any vehicle, SUVs and RVs.

The Magellan Wireless Back-Up Camera kit will retail for $149.99 if you’re interested.

Most parents would ask their teen who has just received the freedom badge – wait a minute here, I meant the driving license, this question when he/she breaks the agreed curfew hour, “Where’ve you been?” Well, thank the heavens that modern technology will help solve and answer many of your questions, especially with the GTrek II GPS Data Recorder coming in handy to track your (once) little one.

It might seem like an invasion of privacy, but paranoid android parents will think that it is £99.99 well spent. After all, just what exactly does the GTrek II GPS Data Recorder do? It is perfect for logging any kind of long journey, regardless of whether it is a countryside outing or a round-the-world trip.

The GTrek II GPS Data Recorder will keep track of where you have been, keeping teens on their toes – but not only that, it can also work equally well for adventurers who want to share their interesting trips with family and friends, leading the way to undiscovered local points of interest as well.

Of course, turning it off will stop the GTrek II from tracking you, and since there isn’t any display to worry about, all you need to do is pay attention to the LED – if it flashes in orange, that means it is working. As the GTrek II does not broadcast any signal, it is safe to use on aeroplanes even, but we are quite sure the attendants will not understand.

Retina-X Studios just announced the availability of PhoneSheriff for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows smartphones. This parental control service for mobile phones allows parents to monitor, filter, and restrict their children’s smartphone activities. The parent sets the software to record and block activities associated with specific numbers and it can also track locations via GPS.

PhoneSheriff is a stealth application which allows parents to see everything their kids do while on the phone, like every text message sent or received, every call dialed or received and all videos and pictures captured by the phone. Yikes! Then, parents can check the kids actions by logging onto the hidden interface on the phone itself, or in order to be extra sneaky, they can log into a secure Web panel from any Web browser to view the recorded logs and stored GPS locations. Boy I’m glad my parents didn’t have this stuff when I was a kid!

This new program can also block phone numbers from contacting your kid via SMS or phone calls. In addition, applications and websites can be filtered or restricted. Parents can also set a time schedule to allow or disallow use of the phone at certain times. Score one, for total parental control.

PhoneSheriff also allows parents to send secret SMS commands to the monitored phone. This allows parents to track where their child is at any time using the Instant GPS Locate command. This feature also works as an anti-theft element, as parents can locate and monitor the phone even when the SIM card has been changed. Wow… I’m all for keeping track of kids, but isn’t this almost too much of a parental advantage? Not that I wouldn’t use it, I’m just saying if my folks had this, I’d still be grounded.

A one-year subscription to the PhoneSheriff costs $49.97 and works with Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Symbian OS smartphones. For more information, please visit www.phonesheriff.com oh, and good luck to your kids.

Mobile location technology is playing a new role in the evolution of emergency roadside assistance, thanks to an innovative location-based solution developed by AT&T and Road America, the well known roadside assistance provider. In partnership with researchers at AT&T, Road America has developed a GPS technology solution for pinpointing breakdown locations in seconds, even if you have no idea where you are.

Previously, drivers needed to have GPS units installed in their cars to be located in the event of an accident or roadside breakdown, but a new solution offered by Road America is bringing this important safety feature to any basic cell, landline or smartphone on any network. Sure, we had telematics device’s like Onstar, but it was only available on GM vehicles… so it left other stranded travelers relying on “well, there’s a big brick building, it looks like a school, with a truck parked in front… I’m around the corner from that.” Not exactly the pinpoint accuracy I’m looking for on a stormy night with a broken car.

Road America developed LocateMe Service® to help capture vehicle breakdown locations for customers calling from any wireless or landline communications device. This innovative, cross-carrier offering helps dramatically improve the speed, accuracy and efficiency of locating a customer’s disabled vehicle.

“When developing this solution our goal was simple: find a way to quickly and accurately locate disabled vehicles by using the technology drivers often already have on them – cell phones – and we needed to be able to do it regardless of which carrier they were on,” said Dennis Fantis, president of Road America. “We teamed up with AT&T to create this revolutionary offering so we are now better equipped to respond to emergency assistance calls with greater reliability and speed, ultimately enhancing our ability to keep customers safe on the road.”
