MetalStrike Authentic Joysticks for flight simulation games

by Mark R

For years, gamers have been playing flight simulation games like the Flight Simulator with a keyboard and a mouse. Sure, you can purchase a joystick for a little bit of added realism, but is that joystick really a “stick” so to speak?

All of that is about to change with a new series of MetalStrike joysticks. There are three of them: the MetalStrike FF, the MetalStrike Pro, and the MetalSrike 3D. As you can see from this picture of the MetalStrike FF, it really looks like the controls that you would find on an F-22.

All of these controllers have 13 programmable buttons, an eight-way POV switch, and even a turbo function for autorepeat. These controllers also have a four axis design for rudder, aileron, elevator, throttle, and other controls.

Welcome to the New Age of the PSP2

by Mark R

Here is a new concept for the Playstation Portable I hope to see in the near future. This PSP2 design concept by Tai Chiem probably won’t be made anytime soon, but it really should.

I mean, just look at the scrolling OLED screen! I think we are close to perfecting that technology, but not that close. Still, it would be nifty to have a screen that can roll up into the PSP itself. No more tiny screen, but it needs some sort of electrical charge to hold it up. I guess it uses the same “memory cloth” technology as shown in Batman Begins.

MeWe offers Quad Charger for the Wii

by Edwin

We all know that the Nintendo Wii is meant to be a socially interactive console, and is most fun when played with four gamers simultaneously. What happens when all four Wiimotes are fully exhausted, and you don’t have enough chargers to juice them up? MeWe has the solution in the form of its Quad Charger for the Nintendo Wii which is capable of charging up to four Wiimotes simultaneously.

When the remotes are in the charging station, an LED display lets players know the charging status and keeps the remotes organized when not in use. The patented-design quad charging station ensures secure connection for the Wii remotes with a uniquely designed storage well along the sidewalls, keeping the Wii wrist strap channeled outside the cradle.

Each $49.95 MeWe Quad Charging Station is accompanied by a 1-year warranty.

DarthCast looks sweet

by Edwin

I certainly did not bet on seeing a portable version of the Dreamcast eight years ago, but today we have super powerful handheld consoles like the Sony PSP and its less technologically proficient DS Lite rival which far outstripped the home consoles of the 1990s in terms of processing power. What happens when you want to get your defunct Dreamcast up and running in a portable form factor? Sega certainly won’t open its doors for you to enter into its R&D labs, leaving you to do things for yourself. Enter hailrazer who has taken his Dreamcast and churned it into a portable form factor known as the DarthCast, thanks to the Lazer Doodle shell. It has a battery life of three hours and uses a PSOne LCD display. Talk about a true Frankenstein!

Compwnent USB Nintendo NES Controller

by Ally

It’s always nice to have a USB gaming controller that you’re comfortable with and enjoy using.  There are a few out there, one being the metal game pad shown here a couple months ago.  However, what if you could have a gaming controller that you were already overly familiar with?  I think for most gamers that would trump any extra perks other USB controllers claim to have.  Well now you can pick up an NES controller that has been modded to work with USB.

SteelSeries World of Warcraft mouse

by Edwin

Gaming mice are dime a dozen these days, but that doesn’t mean companies should just stop innovating and come out with new models to tantalize our senses and tempt us to part with our hard earned money, right? SteelSeries shares this sentiment, and over the past few months their engineers have been huddled up in some top secret underground laboratory in order to come up with the new World of Warcraft MMO mouse. Yes, you read that right – a mouse named after one of the most popular MMORPGs on the earth ever. Strange how at the height of Quake’s popularity, you never really come across stuff like a Quake FPS mouse or a StarCraft RTS mouse, but this time we have an MMORPG mouse?! More on this electronic rodent after the jump.

Carcade takes in-car video games to a new level

by Mark R

Sometimes I wish that the full console games that they put in cars now were available when I was a kid. Even if car companies could have put an Atari 2600 on a backseat screen, it would have made long drives a lot less boring.

It appears that a few students at Berlin Univeristy of Arts are taking backseat video games to a new level with the Carcade. The Carcade works by attaching a webcam to the side of the car, which is then connected to an ordinary laptop.

Somehow, the webcam and the laptop work together and scan all the buildings and trees that the car is passing in order to make them part of the game. The result is something that looks like old-school Defender video game, but the objects your ship pass over are real. Check out the YouTube video after the jump if you don’t believe me, as I had a hard time believing it.

Neat knit cases for your DS Lite

by Edwin

I know that the Nintendo DSi was recently announced, but that model won’t be out anytime soon, and will be region locked for downloadable software so importing one from Japan this November isn’t exactly the smartest thing to do either. Anyway, good thing Nintendo ain’t gonna give up on the DS Lite platform just yet, which means your diminutive handheld console still has a few years left to go before all support for it is removed. Here are a couple of DS Lite cases that were knitted by Janis13 on Etsy, although she has around 13 other designs for your perusal. These cases are sold for $13 a pop.
