Nearly every kid in Britain looks forward to those Saturday afternoon kick offs at stadiums all over the country to see their favorite soccer stars in action, and would love to be in the shoes boots of someone earning an obscene £50,000 a week. It is then that they can pick up cool gadgets like the 100″ Home Video Arcade Center without blinking an eye, and get the entire neighborhood gifts for Christmas while having enough left over to purchase an exotic sports car after saving up for a few months. Unfortunately, not everybody has the skills required to make it to the top level, but you can still have your soccer fun minus the adoration of female groupies who want to have your babies with the Connectv Football game.

Most ladies would abhor such a huge set up in the living room, but blokes who were weaned on video games instead of milk would just go nuts at the sight of having one in the house. The 100″ Home Video Arcade Center from Dream Arcades is just the perfect thing to get for the man in your life, but be prepared to be ignored for weeks on end as he showers more love on the joysticks than romancing you with flowers, chocolates, and a lovely dinner downtown.

World of Warcraft has take the world by storm for the past few years, and it shows no signs of abating. This MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) from Blizzard has captured the imagination (and wallets) of many a soul, that some players have even gone through a divorce or dropped out from school due to their unwavering devotion to this game. WidowPC, a computer manufacturer, is also obsessed with this game as they have come up with a special World of Warcraft PC that was specially built from ground up to cater to this mind-bendingly addictive online game.
A Pain in the Wii
November 25th, 2006 by methodshop in Gaming Gadgets
You will probably either sympathize or laugh at this latest story coming from the console gaming community. According to last Saturday’s Wall Street Journal (subscription required), gamers are finding that the new Nintendo Wii can be a real pain in the neck… back, shoulder, elbow, wrist, etc.
In case you are unfamiliar with the Nintendo Wii, the controller it comes with is a wireless, motion-sensitive wand-like device. Gamers wave the controller around in the air and depending on which type of game you are playing, the controller can be anything from a sword, gun, tennis racket, or even a steering wheel. However, since the console debuted in mid-November, Nintendo Wii owners are complaining of aching backs, sore shoulders, and even something now called “Wii elbow.”
Here are a couple quotes from the WSJ article from Nintendo Wii owners:
Blaine Stuart of Rochester, New York, mistakenly whacked his fiancee, Shelly Haefele, while playing tennis and also accidentally hit his dog while bowling despite the message Nintendo flashes up on the screen before each game which says: “Make sure there are no people or objects around you that you might bump into while playing.”
Ryan Mercer, a customs broker in Indianapolis, lifts weights several times a week. But that hasn’t helped much with the Wii. After playing the boxing game for an hour and a half, his arms, shoulders and torso were aching. “I was soaking wet with sweat, head to toe — I had to go take a shower,” he says. And the next morning? “I had trouble putting my shirt on,” says the 21-year-old avid gamer.
So what do the doctors think about all this? Lana Kang, an orthopedic hand surgeon, had this piece of advice, “It’s just like athletic play…. Stretch out and be sure to take care of any injuries afterwards.”
With the rate of obese children skyrocketing worldwide, you’d think people would be congratulating Nintendo for combining gaming and exercise, not complaining. Oh well. Grab another Big Mac and wait for the next generation of gaming consoles to come out. Maybe they’ll feature ‘mind control ‘ so you don’t even have to lift a finger to play.
The Home Video Poker Machine
November 23rd, 2006 by Tiago in Gaming Gadgets
Just because you are part of those people (like me) that can’t go to the casino spend big bucks on poker slot machines, it doesn’t mean that we can’t play and enjoy a good game of poker at home.
The Video Poker Machine is made to suit all the gambling needs you have, the only problem is that it won’t make you rich like the machines at the casino, it will not make you poor either but it can really simulate the real deal because you must use real coins if you want to play. But don’t worry, after using “spending” all your coins there is a release button to get them back. Read the rest of this entry »
Nintendo Wii Launch at NYC
November 18th, 2006 by Tiago in Gaming Gadgets, Tech News
The most wanted gaming device (besides PS3 of course) comes from Nintendo and has the peculiar “Wii” name, by the way - it reads wee and not why.
The official Wii launch on US (NYC) is only a few hours/minutes away and there has been a great blogging reportage made by Gizmodo, props to them because that is where I picked up the photo for this post.
So with all the recent Nintendo Wii Launch news, I thought about giving you a resume based on their reports:
- there is a launch party for this console, it is being held at Times Square in NYC
- a lot of people are waiting, Gizmodo talks about 1,000 people
- there are a lot of Wii’s waiting for a new owner too, numbers point to 5,000 units
Candy and video games rock!
November 16th, 2006 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Toys
Candy and video games are what kids love in equal measure, although with the upcoming release of the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3, the latter might just pull ahead. The Willy Wonka Candy Factory, noted for its range of chocolates and toothache-inducing candy, has released the WonkaZoid. This is no ordinary electronic handheld game as it acts as a refillable candy dispenser as well. This means you get to munch on your favorite candy while having a great time blasting away on the game.
New pinball machine comes with plasma display
November 13th, 2006 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets
Any self-respecting arcade operator would have a number of pinball machines as their disposal, as there is just something special about the clanging bells, the shrill rings, and the thrill of watching your points edge closer and closer and eventually overtaking the high score, making you king of the hill until some pimply, pubescent kid comes by, drops in a quarter, and starts ringing up the score at the speed of the entire country’s Walmart cash registers operating simultaneously. Ultra Pin has introduced a new twist to a classic game, using modern technology to bring us digital pinball.
