Atari Pong Wall

February 9th, 2006 by methodshop in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets
Coolest Gadgets

I was on TechEBlog the other day and found this great YouTube clip from Nextfest 2006. It’s an interactive installation of an Atari touch-sensitive “Pong Wall” game. No video displays or game controllers needed. You just touch the wall and use your hand to position your paddle. The Pong Wall detects hand movement by using embedded sensors on the wall. And the game interface/score is projected on the wall with LEDs.

It’s fun to watch this technology in action but unfortunately the two guys playing in this clip aren’t very serious competitors. Actually, they look a little tired. So don’t expect to see riveting game of Pong. Just marvel at the geek fun of it all and not the sleepy players.

If you’re really itching to play Pong again, Atari released a retro game system called the Atari Flashback 2 ($30). It features the same wood grain paneling and look of the Atari 2600. Games include Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Lunar Lander, Millipede, Missile Command, Combat and…. Pong.

NOOO L33T Scrabble

February 2nd, 2006 by Al in Gaming Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

L33T Scrabble
I’m not a big fan of l33t speak, actually that’s a bit of an understatement as I absolutely hate it. But for those who are, these L33T scrabble tiles make the game even more nerdy.

You can now play Scrabble with inane childish like spelling which normal people will find really difficult to read and it’s kind of impossible to get challenged for the spelling as it’s not in the dictionary any way.

If you fancy making an educational mockery of the game Scrabble you can get your own L33T tiles from 7h1Nk g33k

Dancing Fingers

January 23rd, 2006 by Al in Gaming Gadgets

Finger Dance Mat
When you get bored (or more likely tired) of your regular dance mats you can now get dancing with your fingers, with the Finger Dance Pad.

It’s compatible with all PlayStation 2 and Psone Dancing Games, so when visiting relatives say the can’t dance you can still get them to make a fool of themselves with one of these :).

The Multiplayer Electronic Trivia System
triviasystem
You know when you and your friends are out enjoying an evening eating dinner or dancing the hours away in a bar or pub and you spend some time playing the Buzztime electronic trivia game, well you can now enjoy it at home. This multi-player electronic trivia system is just like the one that you and your friends enjoy except you can play it at home on your television.

If you are looking for a great way to enjoy family night then you should try this game system. Up to four people can play while using the wireless handheld controllers.

Game play is simple; you are giving a time limit to answer a question that appears on the screen from multiple-choice answers. Who ever gets the correct answer first is of course the winner. The kids will really love this game as well and may even learn a bit while playing.

The Cranium Keyring

January 10th, 2006 by Al in Gaming Gadgets

Cranium on your key ring
I’ve enjoyed playing the Cranium board game for a number of years and it’s great as an ice breaker at parties or for making mates make complete fools of them selves (I still get stick today for when I had a game about 5 years ago and I had to hum the Bohemian Rhapsody. My mind went totally blank and I couldn’t remember how it went (though it was an alcohol fueled evening)).

You maybe wondering why this relatively old but classic board game is on here as a new gadget, well they’ve just made a version of [tag]Craniumt[/tag] that fits on you keyring.

The Golf Game Simulation Set

January 10th, 2006 by Anita in Gaming Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

golf
Have you ever wanted to play golf in the middle of winter when there is feet of snow of the ground? Maybe, you have the desire to practice some place else other than the golf course in front of watchful eyes. Well, the Golf Game Simulation Set is perfect for both those reasons and for hours of fun at home or even a friend’s house.

This golf game has a motion sensing technology that makes it almost like being on the golf course only you are not fighting the cold weather and the wind in person. It will measure your swing and translate it into a power and control on an 18-hole screen course on your television.

All you have to do is plug in the sensor unit to your television and then place it on the floor. You use the club to drive or putt over the sensor. The sensor monitors LED light reflection from under the bottom of the club using a metal oxide semiconductor camera, which records the movement of your club and then relays it to your television screen. All of your shots simulate exactly how your drive or put would do if you were actually on your favorite golf course.
