Pokemon headphones underline your pedigree

June 15th, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

pokephones.jpgThey say that the clothes make the man, but do peripherals make the gamer? Apparently some Japanese think so, if not you won’t be getting tons and tons of Pokemon related merchandise that absolutely, positively screams fanboy. Why not complete your entire Pokemon trainer look by picking up this pair of Pokemon headphones? There is a wide variety of designs to choose from, and with hundreds of those critters running around in the universe, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Of course, don’t expect the manufacturer to include every single Pokemon as that would be sheer madness, but at least they have the more popular ones up for grabs. If only this headphone set came with microphones for Pokemon Pearl/Diamond players to chat with.

NVIDIA launches eForce 8700M GT for notebooks

June 14th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Gadgets, PC Gadgets

nvidia-8700m-gt.jpgComputer games used to belong to the domain of desktops, but technology has advanced thus far to bring the desktop gaming experience to notebooks, enabling executives to have a round of Counter Strike or two before they clinch that multi-million dollar deal in a corporate boardroom. This transition of desktop to notebook gaming was made possible by graphics card companies coming up with mobile solutions that offer comparable performance with their desktop counterparts. NVIDIA maintains this tradition by dropping word that its best performing DirectX 10 graphics card will be made available to notebooks, and the card that bears such honor is none other than the GeForce 8700M GT (”M” stands for Mobile).

Todd McFarlane-inspired Halo 3 controllers

June 14th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

halo3-mcfarlane.jpg

I have absolutely no doubts that Halo 3 will be a runaway success (in the U.S. at least) when it is finally released this year, so why not celebrate the return of Master Chief in high definition by picking up this Todd McFarlane (of Spawn fame) Xbox 360 wireless controller? You get to pick up either Spartan or Covenant wireless controllers, with artwork courtesy of Mr. McFarlane splashed across high-quality, scratch and wear resistant plastic. Not only that, each purchase of this wireless controller will come with a limited edition Halo 3 figuring from McFarlane Toys - a little something you can sell off on eBay if you’re running short on cash. This will surely make any Halo 3 fan drool, so start saving up those pennies now in order to meet the $59.99 asking price.

NES gaming on the go, and not on a Nintendo

June 13th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Mobile Phones

nes-phone.jpg

I do know that plenty of portable media players from China and Taiwan (those generic models that come with different names) do ship with an NES emulator that let’s you play hundreds of gaming classics from the 8-bit era, but most of the time the processor in those portable media players aren’t up to snuff, and your Mario will probably suffer from lag as well as dropped sounds. Heck, I’ve even seen him enter a transparent pipe before due to poor coding! The latest device to ship with an NES emulator is not a portable media player but a cellphone instead.

Neural Impulse Actuator responds to thought

June 7th, 2007 by Edwin in Conceptual Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

neural-impulse-actuator.jpgThe power of thought is truly one of the Holy Grails of the 21st century as scientists and researchers all over the world work to come up with a computer interface that responds to thought, making it possible for virtually everyone and anyone to make use of a computer. Imagine the bed-ridden and homebound updating their blogs and websites without the need to even lift a finger. While that premise is truly interesting and would be beneficial to most people, a seamless working model have yet to be introduced. This does not mean we are further from the goal though - on the contrary, big steps have been taken in this rapidly evolving field, with the Neural Impulse Actuator being the latest prototype in line that responds to the power of thought. While it remains a gaming peripheral at the moment, translating it into a working environment would be pretty simple in principle. The Neural Impulse Actuator is currently being showcased at Computex Taipei 2007.

Xbox 360 controller goes to war

June 7th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Robot Gadgets

xbox360-in-army.jpg

U.S. Army troops have the advantage of using the Small Unmanned Ground Vehicles (SUGVs) in the battlefield as these diminutive robots double up as their eyes, ears, and potentially triggerfingers in tight situations. These robots are relatively cheap (considering the huge budget the Army has) and can be considered as disposable, enabling ground troops to check out the next corner or even hotspots without putting their lives on the line. What makes everything so surprising is the fact that there is no million dollar research involved when it comes to controller the SUGV - instead, the humble Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless controller will do just fine.

DS Lite battery pack for extra gaming hours

June 5th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Gadgets

nintendo-dsl-battery-pack.jpg

While the Nintendo DS Lite is already well known for it’s long battery life, there isn’t really anything to complain about should third party manufacturers throw in a Battery Pack that prolongs your gaming time by up to an additional 40 hours. Yes, this gargantuan Battery Pack does exactly that, and even when it has run out of juice, you can always pop in a quartet of AA batteries to keep the action going. Kinda reminds me of the good old days of the original green monochrome Game Boy, where battery packs always come in four.
