Give Us a Clue Gadget Style - Motormouth

June 30th, 2007 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

Motormouth Game

Here’s a fun looking game for the holidays, Motormouth, an electronic kind of ‘Give Us a Clue’.

There are loads of describe - the-word-without- actually-saying- it-style games. But take it from us, Motormouth renders the whole lot obsolete. In fact this nifty little handheld gizmo is one of the hilariously edgier games we’ve ever played, and we’ve played plenty.

Take the heat off your console

June 27th, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Gadgets

console-heat-radiator.jpg

The Xbox 360 is one console that definitely has a problem with overheating, whereby its red ring of death is now the stuff of legends. While console coolers have been released to date, none of them perform a great job per se. Still, a cooling option is better than nothing, so why not give this passive Console Heat Radiator a chance? Placed horizontally above the Xbox 360 or a computer, its aluminum fins claim to dissipate heat efficiently, reducing the heat retained within. Not only that, it comes in a pretty funky design. Interested games can pick up the Console Heat Radiator for $35 a pop.

Nyko BluWave remote hits the PS3

June 23rd, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

nyko-bluwave.jpg

While Sony’s PS3 works with their own $25 Bluetooth remote control, the latter doesn’t strike up conversation with older, infrared-based devices. Thankfully, there is always the BluWave PS3 remote from Nyko. Ditching radio waves in favor of much older infrared technology, it talks to your PS3 via an attached USB dongle. Too bad the BluWave remote does not lean toward universality, making it a PS3-only device only. At least it costs $5 less than Sony’s Bluetooth remote. You can also drop $40 for a bundle that consists of the BluWave remote and a PS3 controller Charge Base.

Intel comes up with anti-cheating technology

June 22nd, 2007 by Edwin in Gaming Gadgets, Software

intel-anti-cheat.jpgGames are supposed to be fun, even more so computer games. Unfortunately, it loses its fun factor when cheats fall into the equation. The computer folk at Intel share your pain of meeting a person in an online server who seems to have unnatural reflexes and superhuman aim, and yet do not carry the handle Fatal1ty. How does Intel confirm your suspicions that this isn’t a really skilled player but someone who has been hiding behind the facade of aimbots? Let us read to find out more on how Intel develops technology that detects cheating in online games.

LapDeck - Steer While on the Sofa

June 20th, 2007 by Al in Gaming Gadgets

LapDeck

If you enjoy your racing games as realistic as possible you’ll own some sort of gaming steering wheel, this is great if you’re racing at your desk but if you’ve ever tried racing from the comfort of the sofa you’ll know how difficult it is to balance the wheel on your legs or grasp it between your thighs. LapDeck, could be the answer to this conundrum.

Skeletal Jenga

June 19th, 2007 by Al in Gaming Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Dem Bones

In my student days one of the local pubs had a giant Jenga game, which was pretty cool after a few pints of snake bite. This next Jenga variant is probably aimed more at Halloween (or Goths), Dem Bones AKA skeletal Jenga.

You build the tower, then take the bones out and don’t let it topple, or at least that’s the idea! Remove the bones from the middle of the tower and place on top without the whole thing collapsing! Failing to do this means you lose!

You can get Dem Bones for £14.99 (~$30).

Novint Falcon begins shipping

June 19th, 2007 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, USB Gadgets

novintfalcon-ships.jpgThe Novint Falcon’s release has long been overdue, but thankfully shipping begun yesterday. This is a 3D controller that targets computer gamers, although I doubt it will be an effective tool when it comes to serious, professional gaming. What the manufacturers claim the Novint Falcon offers is totally different from any motion sensing gimmick you can think of, since it provides the tactile element including textures, weight, and even individual shapes of an object within the game.

The Novint Falcon retails for $189 and is compatible with Windows XP and Vista operating systems. So far, game support is extremely limited, but each purchase will come with a special port of Half Life 2 that includes the necessary drivers that take advantage of the Falcon’s 3D motion abilities. I wonder whether compatibility with adult Japanese games will be offered in the future…
