The Future of Video Games?

June 27th, 2008 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

In case you are wondering what the next step is for video game consoles, a British magazine known as T3 has some idea of where the future is headed. I believe that these visions are simply ideas, and nothing that is presently under development by the big video game developers.

The first concept is a different type of remote for the Nintendo Wii. This type of Wiimote is still a stick, but it only has one button. It is apparently hooked up to some sort of headset accessory that uses brainwaves to control, and has in-ear headphones. Brainwave technology has been under development for a while now, and if Nintendo gets the first mind interface, they could seriously corner the video game market.

The second concept is a version of the Xbox that is completely portable. Not only is it a game player with 64 GB of memory, but it has built-in Zune capability and can even act as a mobile phone.

‘Guitar Hero’ Action Figures Coming Soon

June 26th, 2008 by AndrewD in Gaming Gadgets, Toys

While we totally understood when Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft would have a cool set of action figures released in its vain, one game we didn’t expect to see action figures for was Guitar Hero. Branding an axe is only really considered action if you’re trying to slice someone in half with it, you know?

But nevertheless, Activision and McFarlane Toys are joining forces to create a line of Guitar Hero themed action figures for McFarlane’s fall line. Whether you want to collect them or just form a toy-led super band, the Guitar Hero action figures might have more success getting action than providing action if you know what I mean. That’s right. Chicks dig musicians.

Action figures will be available for the Axel Steel (pictured), Johnny Napalm, Lars Umlaut and the God of Rock characters from the hit game. Each of the guitar wielding heros will have 15-18 movable parts (hopefully not anatomically correct moving parts.)

Retro Duo NES and SNES Emulator: Best Of Both Worlds

June 25th, 2008 by AndrewD in Gaming Gadgets

As an avid retro Nintendo system gamer, I have to say, this is one of the coolest gadgets I’ve had the pleasure to be introduced too. Sadly, it’s been years since I whipped out my old Nintendo systems to take a whirl at Super Mario or Duck Hunt. Hell, even a good game of Paperboy would do the trick. It’s just been too long. My old systems are too dust covered for me to want to put in the effort.

The Retro Duo Emulator combines the two prototypical gaming systems from my childhood, NES and SNES, into one magnificent, albeit ugly, gadget. So the Retro Duo isn’t the prettiest device on the block. Who cares? I’m not going to be staring at the system design as I hop along Goombas, collecting mushrooms and hoarding coins.

HP Blackbird 002 set to ship

June 12th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Are you thinking of getting a brand new PC sometime in the near future? Well, if you happen to have the budget for something big and powerful, you can always consider the HP Blackbird 002 which will be available in an exclusive configuration at Amazon.com, Newegg.com and select Best Buy, Circuit City, J&R and Micro Center retail stores and online shops this summer. This landmark event also marks the first time the HP Blackbird 002 will be made available in retail stores, allowing more customers to experience it up close and personal before they make up their mind about purchasing it. Of course, the retail configuration won’t disappoint when it comes to cutting-edge design and performance elements, since this is a thoroughbred machine that is meant to be set apart from the other desktop PCs in its class. Retail displays will also include video demonstrations of the system while offering live play.

NZXT Khaos PC Case Gaming Chassis

June 10th, 2008 by AndrewD in Gaming Gadgets, PC Gadgets

We’ve never heard of these guys before. I dunno, maybe we’re not up with the times. Or maybe NZKT is still a no-name in the computing industry. Either way, we’ve discovered them through their new NZKT Khaos PC gaming chassis, which mixes high-performance with sleek and sophisticated style.

A lot of PC cases these days look too cartoony or too nerdy (for some people, certainly not us as you can plainly tell) to be practical for any office or home. The Khaos successfully integrates a moderately geeky, yet sophisticated design style, with enough backing chassis performance to sell to the heavy gamer.

Invaders disguised as Space Intruderz

June 6th, 2008 by Ally in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

Likely from the picture you spotted exactly what these little guys are right off the bat and if you didn’t then you’ve been living under a rock.  These cute little lamps in disguise under the name of Space Intruderz are quite obviously the classic Space Invaders.  Wouldn’t want any pesky issues with copyrights though, it’s not like we’ve seen any official Space Invaders in a while anyway.  These cute little lamps will let everyone know without a shadow of doubt you’re either living in the past or a hardcore gamer.

Wii Spray: The Game of Vandalism That Doesn’t Exist Yet

June 6th, 2008 by AndrewD in Conceptual Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

Grand Theft Auto is one of the greatest, most controversial, and most notorious game brands to ever exist. Despite the amazing success of the newest addition to the series, Grand Theft Auto IV was not released for the Nintendo Wii console. Maybe they were waiting for the right time to release the game. Say, when they had an awesome new peripheral to make their version unique.

So maybe vandalism isn’t a huge selling point for a game that features the mass slaying of prostitutes and high-speed pursuits. On the whole scheme of things, graffiti is the least of the cops problems in the GTA series. But even so, the Wii is in need of a little risque edge. Something to attract the solo angry gamer. The Wii Spray might be right up their alley.
