Bio Robot Fridge keeps food cold in gelatin http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20110505/bio-robot-fridge-food-cold-gelatin/ http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20110505/bio-robot-fridge-food-cold-gelatin/#comments Thu, 05 May 2011 21:26:31 +0000 http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/?p=56609 Every year, Electrolux Design Lab has a a design contest where they challenge students to come up with new home appliances for a future era.

In keeping with this year’s theme, the Second Space Age, Yuriy Dmitriev submitted the Bio Robot Fridge. This Fridge really challenges the idea of a fridge as it doesn’t even look like a refrigerator, or any other household appliance for that matter. There is no motor, no door, only a layer of gel where you put things in and keep them fresh.

Don’t ask me how this keeps things cold, or how it keeps it in there. I have never seen this substance before, but I am told that the user can take stuff out without getting any excess residue on their edibles. I am told that this leaves a smaller carbon footprint than your average refrigerator.

As you can see in the photo, the Bio Robot Fridge can be mounted on a wall, but it can also be mounted on a ceiling. Yeah, the astronauts should love that. I guess that’s one way of keeping your food away from the kids.

This is still a concept for now, but it feels like the episode of The Office where Jim pranked Dwight by putting his supplies in Jello.

What Was it? – A Bringrr http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20101025/bringrr/ http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20101025/bringrr/#comments Mon, 25 Oct 2010 13:21:24 +0000 http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/?p=48263 Bringrr

On Friday we asked the question “What is it?” and we got some pretty interesting answers. Everything from flashlights (fleshlights hmm), Cigarette Lighter powered Ionizing Air Freshner, speakerphones, camera, telescope and my favourite from Tim, the Sink faucet aerator with UV germ killing capability.

However all of the above were incorrect but congrats to sch, Brad in NM, photoculteur (tho using TinEYE is tantamount to cheating :) ) who got it right. The pic is of a Bringrr, the “You’ve forgot your phone alarm”.

Just plug Bringrr into your car’s power port and pair it with your Bluetooth enabled phone. If you start your car and your phone isn’t with you, Bringrr’s alarm goes off and the light changes from blue to red, reminding you to get your phone. It’s that simple.

More information about the Bringrr on our original post or over at the official Bringrr site.

The winner of last week’s coolest gadget competition is the Magic wand remote.

If you’re bored of the same old TV remote, why not ditch it for this magic wand remote. Use flicks of your wrist to change the channel and big sweeping moves to record your favourite TV show. The wand will learn up to 13 commands from your old remote and you can choose which moves control each command, making your remote un-hijackable! It will also work on your Sky box, stereo or any other infra-red device.

Congrats again to Decide What to Buy.

Walkie Talkie Watches
In second place we have the Walkie Talkie Watches.

The first thing we thought was “a walkie talkie in a watch? That’ll be poo! It will have no range, eat batteries, have no functions and be seriously fiddly/difficult to use”. So naturally we had to have a closer look. At first glance we were surprised by the size. They are oversized, compared to a Casio watch, but not as much as you might think. The face of the “watch” only measures in at 7 x 6 x 2.5cm and when you consider that the aerial can be folded in and out when needed it is surprisingly small.

SteriShoe sterilizes and gets rid of shoe odors
Finally in third place comes the SteriShoe sterilizes and gets rid of shoe odors.

SteriShoe may be a product that some might think is taking things too far. However, if you’ve ever worn workboots or know someone that does, I doubt you question that it’d be a great idea for some people. Some of the reason being that you just wish you could get rid of the smell, the other part being that you really do wonder sometimes how much bacteria gets built up inside of a pair of shoes you never wash.

Competition Time – Win a 42″ LG LCD TV http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20091214/competition-time-win-42-lg-lcd-tv-2/ http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/20091214/competition-time-win-42-lg-lcd-tv-2/#comments Mon, 14 Dec 2009 13:17:07 +0000 http://www.coolest-gadgets.com/?p=35059 lg-tv-lcd-42SL9000-3_4view-01_large

I’m delighted to announce we have a great prize to give away to somebody for Christmas. We’ve teamed up with the cool guys over at LG and are giving away a brand new and cool 42″ LED TV (42SL9000) to one of our UK readers (sorry to our non-UK readers more international competitions will be coming soon).

Reviews of the 42SL9000:

The first is the new BORDERLESS SL9000 Edge LED TV. The Edge LED TV has it’s backlight actually around the edges of the screen allowing it to measure just 2.9cm in thickness. The glass on the front of the screen also goes right to the edge sitting flush with the bezel making it a complete smooth panel to hang on the wall. The screen is full HD at 1080p and offers amazing picture quality. Gadget Venue

The 1080p LG SL9000’s a slicker version of the SL80 unveiled back in July, rocking the same tiny frame margins. The difference? The LG SL9000 boasts edge LED tech to give it an even smoother finish. Not only is the new LG SL9000 borderless though, it’s almost two dimensional, as it’s less than 3cm thick – ideal for pasting on to the wall. Electric Pig

Glorious to look at, exceptionally well-specified and boasting plenty of features, the LG 42SL9000 makes an admirable attempt at stealing Samsung’s super-slim-TV crown. But a few shortcomings in the picture-quality department make it a likeable rather than irresistible TV, and, unusually for LG, it struggles to justify its cost. cnet

We are going to raffle the TV on Christmas Eve (12PM GMT) so one lucky gadget fan will have an extra special Christmas present, there are three different ways to enter the raffle (multiple entries allowed):

* Become a fan of Coolest Gadgets on Facebook (existing fans will be automatically entered :) )

* Follow us on Twitter and tweet: I’ve entered to win a 42″ LG LCD TV with @GadgetsCoolest http://bit.ly/4ASneD (Retweet to enter)

* Leave a comment on this post telling us what LG stands for.

By doing all three you will have 3 entries in the raffle. The closing date of the contest is Christmas Eve at 12pm GMT and just to reiterate it is only open to UK readers (grrr). Best of luck.

You can then proceed with the boiling, baking, and or grilling. We remain committed to taking out any food we eat humanely, so we look forward to more lobster tasers in the future – maybe even a home model.

Light some candles, turn of the lights and let the evening go where it will go. Particularly good for those of us who have partners that have a habit of stealing the covers. The light then makes circles above you, the idea being that as your eyes follow the projection you gradually slip off to sleep. Whereas something like reading would stimulate the mind and thus keep you asleep, the LightSleeper relaxes you almost hypnotically. It takes under a minute to get it working, and it can be turned on with a tap (great if you wake up in the middle of the night with uber brain fuzz) and automatically switches off after half an hour which means its energy efficient too.
