Novint Black Falcon Controller

by Edwin

black-falcon.jpgThe Novint Falcon PC game controller was quite the novelty when it was first released, and still is. This is one of the first few 3D touch peripheral for consumer computing, and the company manufacturing the Falcon, Novint Technologies, think that it is high time they offered it in a different color – black. In addition, a new grip was also introduced, whereby the standard Falcon Grip can be interchangeable with the Pistol Grip. Both the Black Falcon and Pistol Grip will retail for $199.99 and $19.99, respectively, and ought to make their way to retail stores sometime before Father’s Day 2008. So if you know that your dad is an avid gamer and is able to whoop your lily ass in Halo 3 with one hand tied behind his back, you know which present to get for him that does not involve yet another leather belt, tie and wallet set.

USB Vacuum Mouse cleans up after you

USB Vacuum Mouse

I really don’t know what it is with Japanese companies that makes them want to make the strangest combo gadgets in the world. I almost picture them having a wall with various gadgets listed on it. All they do is pick either keyboard or mouse, then throw a dart and see what crazy device they should combine. It looks like this time they picked mouse and vacuum cleaner.

PicoZ Apache Micro Helicopter

by Edwin

picoz.jpgPicoZ has come up with a fair bit of micro helicopters in the past, but this time we have the Apache version to relive war stories from the comfort of your home.

The Apache’s potent micro motors are powered by a lightweight lithium polymer battery, giving flight times of up to 10 minutes from a 30 minute charge. Once you get the hang of the controls you’ll be shocked and awed by this khaki-colored contraption. Speaking of which, you control the airborne action via a twin channel, wide-beam infra-red transmitter that doubles up as a charger. Old-style petrol-driven monsters? No thanks!

Would you purchase a toy for your kid knowing that this will actually end up annoying you? Well, if you think so, then be prepared to part with £19.95.

Silent Keyboard

Do you ever get tired of hearing the sound of yourself typing? Honestly, it’s never really bothered me, but I’m sure that if you work near other people, they might get annoyed with it after some time. Next time you go shopping for a new keyboard, you might look for one that’s a bit quieter than the rest. Take this one from Thanko which is not only silent, but works on two PCs.

Tailors Steam Press

by Edwin

tailors-steam-press.jpgIroning can be quite the pain, especially when you’re already in a rush trying to get ready for office only to discover that your shirt is all creased since you failed to maintain an iron (pun intended) discipline where house chores are concerned.

This is the professional-grade digital steam press with a pressing surface that is more than seven times larger than most handheld irons, reducing ironing time by up to 50%. Pressing is controlled with an automatic digital monitoring system to ensure consistent results based on the kind of fabric (nylon, silk, rayon, wool, cotton, or linen) you select on the instrument panel. A simple lowering of the handle produces more than 100 lbs. of pressure and the unit generates steam up to 410° F, instantly smoothing stubborn wrinkles and forming sharp creases, yet the press will neither cause fabric to wear nor leave a shiny finish on fine clothes.

The Tailors Steam Press sounds like the perfect gift for those who don’t want to waste too much time ironing their clothes, retailing for $249.95.

Emotiv sees an update

by Edwin

emotiv-update.jpg

Remember the Emotiv headset which we covered last year? That was a unique mind-controller that enabled wearers to actually control the actions on the screen simply by using the power of the mind, but one year ago, the prototype could not do as much as what was displayed at GDC this year. This updated Emotiv headset is now even more capable of interpreting the interaction of neurons in the brain, picking up electrical activity from the brain while sending signals to a computer sans wires. This makes it a snap for users to manipulate a game (imagine making headshots all the time with perfect accuracy in Counter Strike) and a virtual environment naturally and intuitively.
