Kerala Trance Binary Watch

January 20th, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Kerala Trance Binary WatchI’m a big fan of good watches and geeky watches and this new time piece from Firebox fits quite nicely into both categories, theKerala Trance Watch.

The Kerala Trance is about as geeky as watches get. The time is displayed in binary format which initially will take a bit of calculating to work out the time but once you get used to it, it will become second nature.

The only thing I feel that lets this watch down is the boring black leather strap, I was expecting something a bit more futuristic. It also commands a bit of a high price (100UKP) and is available from Firebox.

Super Tiny PMP

January 18th, 2006 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets

Tiny Media Player
No matter how small devices get it never seems to be small enough, this latest media player from Aigo measures in at 66 x 66 x 19mm and weighs a tiny 85g and even packs in a 2″ LTPS (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon what ever that means) TFT.

This tiny MP4 player will easily slip into any pocket, has storage of up-to 2GB, and even has a TV output for when you’re fed up with squinting at the 2″ screen. As you’d expect it supports all popular music formats and connects to the PC via USB 2.0 so downloading to it should be a breeze.

I’m not sure how comfy it will be watching a screen of this size, so I’ll be holding verdict on this cool looking device until I see one in the flesh.

January 13th, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets

Image Smart Cards
These new smart cards look pretty cool, they let you interact with your card in a totally different way. As well as a simple LCD display you can also enter information via six tiny keys. From the picture it is difficult to tell exactly how thin the card is but it doesn’t look any thicker than a conventional credit card.

Designer LCD TVs

December 30th, 2005 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Wooden Designer LCD TV
It didn’t seem that long ago when LCD TVs were the new expensive in thing but like most technological advancements it doesn’t take long for them to become common place. For LCD manufacturers to make their TV the one to own they need to compete via quality, features or price. However the company Hannspree is taking a different approach and is selling what I can only describe as novelty / designer LCD televisions.

Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 955 (Intel Presler) CPU Released

December 28th, 2005 by Keith in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 955

Most of today’s computing processors we use are Intel processors. Aimed at marketing high-end processors for PC enthusiasts, the prices of these high-end Intel Extreme Edition (EE) processors are quite unreasonable for most applications we use today. As such, most end users turn towards AMD’s high-end Athlon 64 x2 as alternative choice.

Back in the tug-of-war, Intel officially released the Pentium Extreme Edition (EE) 955 chip (Intel Presler) to replace the previous version of Pentium Extreme Edition (EE) 840. The former is a dual-core CPU design with a clock speed of 3.46GHz, compared to the latter’s 3.2GHz clock speed.
