ViewSonic

ViewSonic VP930b

Though you may agree that this may be just another business LCD monitor, but the Viewsonic VP930b model has an additional small significant that makes it different from others. In fact, this LCD monitor has a factory assembled base stand, such that it is packed together with the same unit as the screen itself, unlike others that have base stands packed in separately from panel units.

Cool Wooden Clock

February 9th, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Wooden Clock on desk
It’s that time again to report on a new cool clock. What makes this clock gadgety, well it’s made out of wood for starters and when not showing the time looks just like a plain old block of timber. Read the rest of this entry »

Atari Pong Wall

February 9th, 2006 by methodshop in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

I was on TechEBlog the other day and found this great YouTube clip from Nextfest 2006. It’s an interactive installation of an Atari touch-sensitive “Pong Wall” game. No video displays or game controllers needed. You just touch the wall and use your hand to position your paddle. The Pong Wall detects hand movement by using embedded sensors on the wall. And the game interface/score is projected on the wall with LEDs.

It’s fun to watch this technology in action but unfortunately the two guys playing in this clip aren’t very serious competitors. Actually, they look a little tired. So don’t expect to see riveting game of Pong. Just marvel at the geek fun of it all and not the sleepy players.

If you’re really itching to play Pong again, Atari released a retro game system called the Atari Flashback 2 ($30). It features the same wood grain paneling and look of the Atari 2600. Games include Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Lunar Lander, Millipede, Missile Command, Combat and…. Pong.

Sky Gazers Personal Planetarium

February 5th, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Celestron Telescope
If you enjoy star spotting (sky stars not Hollywood stars) you’ll love this gadget, the Sky Scout. It’s touted as a personal planetarium and must contain more celestial facts than the head of Patrick Moore.

It works by using GPS to ascertain where you are and what you’re looking at. It then accesses it’s celestial database to tell you exactly what that bright dot in the sky actually is. This is one cool educational tool, and as you can update the database via its USB connection it should never be out of date.

The Celestron is due to be released later this year (2006 in case you are reading an ancient post) and will have a price tag around £230, you can find more info on the Celestron site.

Invisible Touch-less Dimmer Switches

February 3rd, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Dimmer Switch
It’s pretty difficult to get a cool light switch, as at the end of the day it’s just a switch but the company Anigmo has managed it by way of a totally contact-less dimmer switch, the ST2 range (okay the name could of been a bit more inventive).

In the old days, if you wanted a contact-less switch you’d need to clap, shout or slam doors. With the Anigmo switch all you need to do is wave your hand in-front of it.

Flower Petal Printers

February 1st, 2006 by Al in Electronic Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

Printing on Petals
If you’re Mr Romantic and you want to buy an ultra unique and personalised present then check out this Flower Printer, which lets you print your own personalised messages and doodles onto flower petals..

I’ve not met a woman yet who doesn’t like flowers and giving her flowers where each petal is personalised specially for her must earn so a bucket load of romantic brownie points. I’d say that this would guarantee forgiveness for all the times you were late with gifts and cards in the past.

The printer doesn’t come cheap at $1,250 but think of the warm smile it will create (and what ever else follows ;))

Mermory Stick Lego

January 24th, 2006 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Mobile Phones, PC Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Memory Stick Lego HolderBefore my Sinclair Spectrum, Lego was my all time favourite toy. Even my Lego train-set was cool, in fact there wasn’t a single thing that I couldn’t make (when I was 7). Why am I going on about a toy that must be at least 50 years old? Today I saw a picture of a prototype memory card holder that looked just like, guess what, Lego blocks :)

The company behind these keychain cases, Best Rubber Productions have also made such classics as the Silicone Rubber Bracelet, the Silicone Rubber Cover for the iPod and the Silicone Rubber Ashtray. So you can probably guess what these little Lego key chains are made out of. Like conventional Lego they are also stackable so if you have several SD Cards or memory sticks you can store them all together in an infinitely expandable Lego house :).
