First, there was VoIP phones that helped up bridge the communication divide with our friends and family who are residing far away from us, as calling cards aren’t exactly the cheapest way to go if you are bent on holding conversations long into the wee hours of the morning. Thankfully, VoIP technology in terms of software and hardware has progressed to such an extent that it is now possible to hold video calls that have a decent frame rate. There are many Skype-certified phones available in the market these days, but if you want to carry out a video conversation, you’d have to pick up a webcam as well. 3J Communications decided to roll both devices into a single offering with the aptly-named Skype Video Phone.

December 15th, 2006 by Edwin in DIY Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Retro Gadgets
It never ceases to amaze me what men (and women, of course - I’m just talking in an extremely general manner, so please don’t get overtly PC on me) can do with a little bit of imagination, some D.I.Y. skills, and a passion to create something totally new that blows our collective minds away. Lou Reimuller obviously had more time on his hands than the rest of us by lovingly fusing an armless mannequin of yesteryear with a modern electronic guitar. He has dubbed her Teenar, and she has this sultry look that casts a pall of gloom whenever you look at her direction, but nobody is stopping you from stepping up, cradling your arms around her, and start pulling the right strings to bring a cheery disposition to the sombre mood all around.
Ality Pixxa LCD Photo Frame
December 14th, 2006 by Tiago in Electronic Gadgets, Photography
I bet some people already got tired of reading about digital frames after the third time it was mentioned, we are now talking about the 7th digi frame counting with the small keychains too. Lets recapitulate what we have so far:
- Parrot Photo Viewer
- NuVue Digital Photo Frame
- Wi-Fi Gmail / Flickr Enabled Picture Frame – clearly the best one, why aren’t there more frames with Wi-Fi and a connection to Flickr so you can have different photos for each day of the year?
- YAT Digital Picture Frame
- Digital Photo Keychain
- Picture Keyring – the black sheep of small digi frames
Now, onto our device of the day - the Ality Pixxa LCD Photo Frame. Read the rest of this entry »
MusicJam adds new functionality to iPod
December 14th, 2006 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, iPod gadgets
Nearly everybody and his mother already has an iPod, which is why getting an iPod as a holiday gift idea is not exactly the wisest thing to do. What you can do, though, is to pick up a third party iPod device that will enhance the owner’s experience with the world’s most popular digital audio player. This wish is fulfilled with the MusicJam portable audio effects mixer for the iPod, effectively turning this ubiquitous MP3 player into a recording machine that boasts a host of other functions up its sleeves as well.
Wii sensor goes wireless
December 13th, 2006 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets
So you’ve bought a spanking new Nintendo Wii as part of your get fit regiment in view of the upcoming holiday season where you will indulge in plenty of eating, drinking, and video gaming. Unfortunately, as with everything in this world, there is nothing perfect, and the very same thing applies to the Wii sensor that falters under extra bright conditions. The Wireless Wii Sensor does not provide a foolproof method against dropped or wayward connections with your Wiimote in the presence of bright light, but it does do away with the pesky cable that definitely turns down the Wii’s sex appeal by a notch.
LG LAN-9600R does entertainment, GPS
December 12th, 2006 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets
Most vehicles these days come with some form of GPS as humans learn more and more to rely on the teats of technology to help them complete everyday, mundane tasks like getting to the office from their home or heading off to some obscure place without needed to know how to fold back a road map. In fact, there are some of us who rely so much on GPS navigation systems that they would even swear by it, with some of these hardcore proponents even driving into a swamp or river just because the GPS navigation system says there is supposed to be a road ahead. I’m not sure if LG’s latest in-dash entertainment and navigation system is super accurate, but at least the LAN-9600R looks extremely neat.
Digital Photo Keychain
December 11th, 2006 by Al in Electronic GadgetsThe Digital photo keychain is available for $39.95 from Amazon.
This will be the 7th digital photo frame we talk about here at CG, it might be a sign to take it easy on this kind of gadgets but I digress and keep on finding new ones that are worth talking writing about, or not…
Anyway, as the name suggests this is a keychain which means that it is on the pocket-sized category and can be considered a small version of the other digital frames (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) that we like most. On the other hand, we already reported a similar keychain but lets be honest, this one looks much better on the outside aspect and is 100 times more attractable than the previous one.
