Pistol Cam Shoots Video, Shoots You

June 26th, 2008 by AndrewD in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets

Have you ever been unfortunate enough to view one of those grisly video productions called Faces Of Death? Basically they film people being killed, maimed, sliced or anything else which involves death and gore. The Pistol Cam might not help the production value at all, but it surely makes the filming easier. And we also hope that people don’t think of actually making those sort of videos with this device.

The Pistol Cam is basically a gun with a camera mounted on it. No, it’s not meant to capture all of your photogenic targets. The sheriff’s department SWAT team of Orange County, New York has started adding cigarette box-sized combo cameras, laser pointers, and flashlights onto their weapons, with the thought of violent accountability in mind.

Facebank: A Super Creepy Piggy Bank That Eats Your Coins

June 26th, 2008 by AndrewD in Electronic Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Imagine Cookie Monster from Sesame Street developed an insatiable hunger for coins. Then remove the huggable blue body, add a blockish, unintentionally creepy robotic face for chowing down on metal, and you’ll have something that resembles this Facebank. Created by, who else, but the Japanese, the Facebank is an exceedingly creepy piggy bank given human-like features.

Using a special sensor in the devices’ eyes, the Facebank knows when you’re about to insert a coin into its mouth. When you want to feed it a coin, the gadget’s mouth starts chomping, fueled by a robotic (and hardly silent) motor. Watch as the Facebank slowly digests your money down it’s metaphorical throat hole.

Motion-Powered Chargers

June 25th, 2008 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets

Every once in a while, I discover a new mobile device charger that is really practical and energy-efficient, like the Solio Magnesium Solar Charger. Today I found two devices that charge using another renewable energy source: kinetic energy.

The first is the Orange Dance Charge. This is an armband that you can connect your mobile device to, and then shake it up (preferably while dancing) for a charge. It has the same kinetic energy charger that you see in those “never need winding” watches. So if your cellular phone needs a charge, just dance around like Martin Short back when he was playing Ed Grimley on Saturday Night Live.

The second is a charger that sounds like a cheap joke, but it is real proposal. Apparently, a woman named Adrienne So has proposed a way to harness the power of breasts. That’s right, with a little nanowire fabric in a bra, you can actually capture the energy produced by the up and down movement of the (insert any synonym for “breasts” here). I’m going to justly resist any comment that I could make after introducing a gadget like this.

Ascom Wireless releases new i75 Messenger

June 25th, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets

Ascom Wireless Solutions has just increased their WiFi portfolio by unveiling a new handset known as the i75 Messenger. This could not come in a more timely manner as the use of WiFi is growing at an unprecedented rate, in part due to freeing us from the shackles of a wired environment, which is always a plus point in my book (provided the drawbacks aren’t too impractical to deal with, of course). What does the i75 offer on paper? Well, for starters, it “combines advanced messaging and highly versatile telephony as well as push to talk capabilities. Built to support Professional Messaging, this handset is uniquely quipped to communicate with a comprehensive range of external sources, including building management systems, hospital systems and production process systems.”

The Hello Kitty HD-TV soon to be found in Japan

June 24th, 2008 by Ally in Electronic Gadgets, Home Theater

I swear, if there is some kind of hostile takeover and the world ends, at the root of the problem will be Hello Kitty sitting in pretty pink.  I’m not sure what started my deep and true hatred of all things Hello Kitty, so I fully admit that it is entirely random and not at all logic based.  The more hilarious part is that I know I’m not the only one bad about disliking all that is Hello Kitty.  My theory is, anything that has taken over the world as quickly as Hello Kitty has must be evil, especially if it appears innocent.

C. Crane Calamity Kit

June 24th, 2008 by Mark R in Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

I think we all need to be prepared for emergencies, especially when it comes to power outages. You don’t want to be the unlucky guy in a blackout, unable to find batteries for the flashlight or the radio.

This is why you should purchase the three-piece Calamity Kit from C. Crane. All three of these devices included in the kit are wind-up powered, and very valuable in an emergency.

The first item is the Sherpa LED Flashlight, which requires no batteries, and will give a lot more light to a dark area than a candle.

The second item is the Indigo Lantern, an electric lantern which can really light up a large room. It also has a tiny light on it designed for spot lighting, and, like the Sherpa, requires no batteries.

Unichal dixau concept dictionary

June 23rd, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets

Dictionaries come in two formats these days - digital and in a traditional book form. Unichal of Korea has come up with a new concept known as ‘dixau’, featuring an integrated English dictionary within which displays its content on the computer monitor complete with an authentic native speaker voice to read out the word you click the dixau on. The dixau supposedly supports up to 17 dictionaries by hooking it up to the Internet. It will retail for less than a Benjamin, making it a great purchase for folks who are trying to pick up the English language without thumbing through dust-laden dictionaries.

Pyramid time clock with Ethernet connectivity

June 22nd, 2008 by Edwin in Electronic Gadgets

Pyramid time clocks have the tendency to remain at the top of the sales charts where employee time attendance systems are concerned. This time round, they have been given an update - they now incorporate Ethernet connectivity that makes for easier, faster and more accurate data transferring. Instead of relying on the old system where time management consisted of using a singular time clock station and paper time cards to punch in and out, this new system revolutionizes the way things are done. No longer do managers need to count up and add employee hours, and when overtime and holiday pay are thrown into the fray, things get all the more confusing and tedious. The future of employee time attendance systems like in the digital format, where clocking in involves swiping a card ala credit card, or entering your identification into a computer or keypad.
