Solar Powered Drinks Coaster

May 27th, 2008 by Edwin in Drinking Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets

All coasters are just the same, right? I love those that feature my favorite lager, but this Solar Powered Drinks Coaster will probably usurp that preference .

Placing your drinks glass or bottle onto the solar drinks coasters sets off a mesmerizing sequence of hypnotic colors, which illuminate your glass and drinks bottle and will look fantastic in your garden this summer. Eye-catching colors include red, orange, blue, green, yellow and purple, making these solar color-changing coasters a guaranteed talking point! An integral solar panel that charges up during the day is used to power your solar coasters and an energy efficient color-changing LED produces the vibrant multi-colored effects for up to 6 hours.

It isn’t too cheap though at £14.95 each, which means equipping your whole bar will cost you a small fortune.

Solar powered speedboat

May 25th, 2008 by Edwin in Eco Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear, Vehicle Gadgets

Solar power looks like it is here to stay, and we have so far seen solar powered cars being the Holy Grail in the fight to be independent of black gold, or rather, oil. Hybrid cars aren’t exactly catching on as fast as environmentalists prefer, and solar powered cars have not made the impact they were supposed to mainly because the technology is not yet there for a powerful, conventionally shaped vehicle that runs entirely off the sun’s rays. Never mind modes of transportation on land - here we have a solar powered speedboat that will slice through water pretty much in the same way an ordinary speedboat does, save for the fact that this one relies on the sun to power its electric engine instead.

No more light bulbs with Saazs’s self-illuminating glass

May 22nd, 2008 by Chris in Eco Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

If you don’t think the energy saving bulbs are enough, you might give this lighted glass a whirl. The glass is completely self-illuminating, it uses neither light bulbs or electricity. At some point Saazs hopes to replace light bulbs altogether, however, the technology isn’t quite to that point yet, it still needs a bit of improvement.

Shark Fin Power Sysyem: Inspired From Nature

May 21st, 2008 by AndrewD in Eco Gadgets

Power generation would be so much easier if we could gather up all the fish of the sea and attach mini-turbines to all of their fins. Fish generate a huge amount of power with these things comparative to their size.

What we can accomplish is the next best thing. The bioSTREAM tidal power conversion system’s design is inspired by the framework of living animals, specifically, the fins of tuna, mackerel, and sharks.

Outdoor Solar Workstation concept

May 20th, 2008 by Edwin in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets, Office Gadgets

solar-workstation.jpgI know most people look forward to the summer, since that is the time where you get to spend plenty of time in the sun getting a tan, before the clammy autumn season creeps up on us. For those who are constantly stuck in the office, perhaps the Outdoor Solar Workstation concept here would be a good idea to suggest to your boss? Designed by Mathias Schnyder, this modular workstation features a solar cell on the roof itself, generating enough juice to power a notebook through an electric outlet in the center of the table. There are movable segments that function as seating arrangements which reduce exposure to both wind and sun simultaneously. No idea whether this concept will ever make it commercially, but it is worth dwelling upon. Non-applicable to those living along the equator though.

SwissBike Folding System

May 18th, 2008 by Edwin in Eco Gadgets, Vehicle Gadgets

swissbike.jpg

Seems the getting a bicycle these days is the trendy thing to do. The SwissBike Folding System adds another choice for folks who want to get around places without burning up additional fossil fuel. Most bicycles that claim to be extremely portable, i.e. folding bikes, tend to look really ugly as though a maniac took a hacksaw and had a field day with the bike’s frame, cutting it in half while adding a hinge to allow them to fold. With the SwissBike Folding System, this is very different as it does not lose the bike’s torsional rigidity, thanks to its patented F.I.T. system developed by Montague engineers. This system does not involve any bike cutting, but instead relies on its very own patented Concentrus system that uses a tube within a tube design that actually strengthens the frame by incorporating technology found on some high performance, dual suspension mountain bikes.
