Scosche SolCHAT

March 18th, 2009 by Mark R in Bluetooth, Coolest Mobile News, Eco Gadgets, Mobile Phones

I think we all know that what the world needs now, is solar power, sweet solar power. Yeah, I probably shouldn’t be stealing old classic songs and adding green messages to them, but what the heck, it is quite true.

Scosche has recently unveiled a new solar-powered endeavor with the SolCHAT Bluetooth Speaker phone. It is designed to be used in the car, so you can chat and drive without breaking any new laws.

LEDs that could run on mud

March 13th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets

Dutch designer Marieke Staps may have figured out a way of saving energy by harnessing the power of mud.

The picture that you see here is the power source for this soil lamp. It uses a chemical reaction of copper, zinc, and the moistened mud to power a single LED. I suppose this uses the same principle as plugging tiny electrical units into potatoes for power.

You will notice that I am using definitely unsure verbs in my report, such as “may”. The problem is that I have doubts whether this product is for real. It has that “too good to be true, so it probably isn’t” factor. After all, who doesn’t want cheap power based on an easily found resource like mud?

Apartment sized solar cells could be a boom in the inner city

March 13th, 2009 by James in Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Solar Powered Gear

The advantage that houses in suburbia have over apartments in the City is that homeowners can install solar panels on their rooftops to save money on the every rising cost of electricity. Some can even take surplus energy produced by their solar panels and sell it back to the electric company at a tidy little profit. Most apartment dwellers don’t have that option as they don’t have a rooftop with which to install panels. But if they’re on the sunny side of the street, they may be able to install a new awning like product to do the same job.

Rent a scooter gives a new take on public transportation

March 12th, 2009 by Ally in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets

A greener and cost effective way to transport people is always an important issue.  Well this design was entered into the Australian Design Awards competition.  It’d be great for heavily trafficked tourist areas or just spots where a lot of people tend to go on foot.  After a while, walking can become tiring when you’ve got a long walk.  Plus these scooters will get you there slightly faster than they normally would.

Freedom Dynamo Electric Shaver

March 11th, 2009 by Edwin in Eco Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Electric shavers are a whole lot more convenient than standard ones, except for when they run out of batteries – then you’d wish you had carried with you a spare, ordinary shaver that does its job even when the whole world’s power supply is cut off. Then again, nobody would be there to look at your growing stubble when there is no light, right? The Freedom Dynamo Electric Shaver works differently as you will have to hand-crank it yourself before it can get to work on liberating your skin from stubble.

The Freedom Dynamo Electric Shaver provides true liberty through its Wind ‘N Go lever, avoiding any need to use actual electricity. One minute of winding, and you’ve got yourself enough power for a full shave! It also comes with three individual heads that properly flex and rotate to provide a close and precise performance. And for any on-the-go users, it comes with a travel case, which includes a mirror, cleaning brush and adapters (110 volt power adapter and 12 volt car charger).

Hair is not included, while replacement blades and foils can be purchased separately. The Freedom Dynamo Electric Shaver will set you back by $49.99.

Inlet-Outlet Gives Power Back

March 10th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Eco Gadgets

There is some commercial that says: “We are a nation of consumers, and there is nothing wrong with that”. Every time I hear that, I can’t help but think: “yes there is, consumers use up energy, and we shouldn’t use up all the energy in the world!”

After all, every home has several outlets that do nothing but suck up a lot of power and increase the consumers’ bills. Granted, we may need the devices that we plug into the wall, but there is no way to give back the power that we take except in the form of money.

Fortunately, someone has invented the Inlet-Outlet which allows you to put power back into your wall. So how can you give it back? Try connecting it to some exercise equipment. You might as well be creating energy as you are burning calories. I suppose you could connect it to a hamster cage if you want to add just a little bit of juice.

Ikea now offering Solar Powered Lights

March 6th, 2009 by Ally in Eco Gadgets, Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

I am one of the many living on a budget that adores Ikea.  Sadly for me, the closest store is in the next state over and they don’t usually offer many of their products online.  Well now Ikea has a new line for the green loving gadget crowd.  They are offering up solar powered lighting, they’re going to start releasing several different lights, most are meant for outside, but not all.  Plus, being Ikea, they’re keeping it cheap, not a single one of them goes over $19.99.  Which is especially thankful since some of them are probably better to purchase in clumps to make a pathway of lights.

For folks who do not give up that easily, here’s another remedy to help you maintain a lush, green garden – the Roll N’ Grow Miracle Garden.
