An electric car is not something that all of us are able to afford, although some of us do dream of driving up in a Tesla that offers exceptional acceleration performance with looks that could kill. However, if there is one thing about electric cars that continue to invoke doubt in motorheads, it would be the battery life. Most electric vehicles have to “suffer” from limited range and long charging times (relatively speaking) as opposed to a petrol or diesel-powered ride. Fisker would like to turn such conceptions upside down with their modern day marvel, the EMotion that will be powered by the patent-pending Fisker Flexible Solid-State Battery.
What makes the Fisker EMotion so special? Well, apart from its stunning looks and performance capabilities, it will run on the Fisker Flexible solid-state battery that is capable of delivering 2.5 times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, hence allowing it to achieve a maximum range of up to 400 miles on a full charge. Even better yet is the fact that it can take less than a minute to power up the battery, making it faster to “fuel up” so to speak compared to the traditional petrol-powered ride.

With an estimated top speed of 161 mph, the Fisker EMotion is no slouch, and this all-wheel drive with 24″ low rolling resistant Pirelli tires is set to blaze new trails. We love the fact that this is a level 4 autonomous driving vehicle, and it is also smart enough to have the doors open and close through a smartphone. On the outside, there are unmovable flush touch handles which will be illuminated, making it more advanced that seemingly standard issue keyless entry models.

For passenger comfort, there are inductive charging ports and special holders for up to a quartet of smartphones to keep up with the times, and to cap it all off, it has four individual, electric adjustable seats that will wrap passengers in ultra soft leather. Hopefully we can see this roll out sooner rather than later, and will keep a keen eye open for the price.

Matrix reveals the PowerWatch X Tue, 09 Jan 2018 12:00:02 +0000 PowerWatch-XMost of the time, we would think that a watch is powered through one of three methods: the traditional button cell battery, kinetic energy, or solar power. Matrix decided to take the road less traveled with a no-less adventurous timepiece known as the PowerWatch X, allowing it to run on one’s body heat alone. It is starting to sound as though we are entering an era like the Matrix, where we humans end up as “batteries” for the machines. Still, Matrix’s PowerWatch X is something that boggles the mind, where it will be powered by the wearer’s body itself, which is made possible by a proprietary thermoelectric energy converter.

Make no mistake about it, the PowerWatch X was specially designed and built for those who have an adventurous streak to them. It sports an aircraft-grade aluminum body that ensures it remains nice and light, while having a purposeful bulk that will maintain its rugged look and feel. The wearable itself does not require any charging on the wearer’s part, and it will arrive standard with up to 200M of water resistance, which is something that other similar battery-powered fitness wearables offer. The beauty of the PowerWatch X? You do not have to grapple around with the hassle of annoying chargers and messy cables.

Whenever you do not wear the PowerWatch X, all data that it carries will remain stored in its memory as it goes to sleep. When you do decide to pick up the PowerWatch X and slap it around your wrist, it will turn right back on at where you last left off. Matrix claims that the PowerWatch X is able to last for up to two years in idle mode, now how about that? It comes with companion apps that will run on both iOS and Android platforms to deliver additional customization, tracking and insights. The PowerWatch X can be pre-ordered for $249 apiece, any takers?

G-Bike is the first carry-on style electric bicycle in the world Mon, 16 Oct 2017 20:00:28 +0000 g-bikeWhen it comes to bicycles to get around for the urban commuter, there are many different kinds of models to choose from. Many of us would settle for a regular two-wheeler with a fair number of gears in order to help us tackle the trickier uphill segments along the route. However, regular sized bicycles are normally not allowed to be carried on board trains, making end-to-end connectivity a wee bit more challenging. Portable bicycles or foldable ones, on the other hand, do not really offer the same kind of “kick” as a regular sized bicycle. Enter GreenWheel’s G-Bike, the first carry-on style electric bicycle in the world.

The G-Bike will boast of a sturdy, secure frame with a trio of folding points at the back wheel, mid body, and base of the handlebar stem. This special design will enable the bike to neatly collapse down to its carrier form, where you can then bring it with you right behind like an obedient puppy, or a luggage carry-on.

As for its technical specifications, they are rather impressive. Boasting of a long lasting battery life of up to 55 miles in range (this will also vary depending on the steepness of the slopes involved, among others), we love the incorporation of puncture resistant tires that feature an integrated puncture guard in order to deliver all-terrain access. The 36V 250W motor is able to provide significant torque and speed to handle any kind of slope, while the battery can be removed to recharge, taking a mere 4 hours to do so. There is also a high quality LCD display that showcases important details such as speed, distance, and battery life remaining, while Shimano Nexus Gears delivers easy riding with the feel of a 3-speed bike.

Expect the G-Bike to retail for $1,799 apiece if you are interested in going green in style.

Drain Strain – Work smarter, not harder Wed, 03 May 2017 18:30:00 +0000 Drain Strain

We don’t need to invest in precautionary measures, but it’s never a bad idea. Doing so normally results in making sure potentially big problems only have a chance to be little ones that are easy to manage. The more preventative measures you take, the more smoothly your day-to-day operations will remain for a longer period of time. This can be big things like changing your oil early and stocking up on toiletries to putting a drain catcher in place to prevent obstructions.

While a clogged pipe is not a huge deal, it’s easier and cheaper to keep it cleaned out in the first place. The Drain Strain will not only make sure your sink can’t develop a hairball, but will also stop any tiny items from escaping you. This device is of Shark Tank fame, installing in your bathroom sink in a couple minutes, and will act as a replacement stopper for lever-actuated drains. The big pull is the basket underneath the drain cap which will catch anything that tries to go for a joy ride down the pipes.

Should your valuable cuff links or earrings slip in, you only need to turn, lift, and click the top, giving you access to what lies underneath. This is a $12-14 purchase depending on what finish you’d like on top. It’s not a necessity, but it will save you on pouring harmful chemicals down the drain or calling a plumber to snake it for you.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf looks to Zon for mobile device charging Mon, 06 Feb 2017 12:00:04 +0000 zon-powersolI am quite sure that anyone who has had gourmet coffee would have tried The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at least once in their life. Starbucks, Gloria Jeans, and Peet’s are also other names that have become household mentions .While the kind of coffee served there might not necessarily be all that great, many people do hang out at their cafes for the simple fact that it is all nicely done up, and is the perfect place to relax and catch up with your family and friends. Most of these venues also come with their own charging points and free Wi-Fi, as some executives do go to such places to do their work. Well, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf rebrand and refresh their premises with ZON and its premier product – the Powersol.

Needless to say, the rebranding effort will see new logos, cups, as well as interior design and innovations introduced to the masses. ZON intends to make sure that the innovation effort of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf will be quite unlike anything that has been seen before, especially when it comes to other coffee retailers.

The ZON Powersol will be a feature in future venues, where it functions as a solar battery hub that will be able to charge mobile devices as fast as a wall outlet — regardless of whether it is day or night. What makes this all the more interesting is the fact that it is capable of juicing up a trio of mobile devices simultaneously as fast as a regular wall outlet. You will also be able to make use of your mobile devices even as it juices up.

ZON’s charging stations will be wholly solar powered, where they will be fitted onto the coffee retailer’s umbrellas. This just goes to show how far solar charging technology has come from its early days, and whether other coffee retailers will follow suit or not remains to be seen.

SolarWindow intends to develop electricity-generating flexible glass Sun, 05 Feb 2017 12:00:25 +0000 solarwindowSolarWindow Technologies has a name that is pretty easy to reveal its intentions — that is, it has something to do with harnessing the power of the sun in order to generate electricity in the long run. Well, they are the developer of transparent electricity-generating coatings when it comes to glass windows and flexible veneers, and have just announced plans to work on electricity-generating flexible glass. If that were to be realized on a large scale that can be incorporated into building projects all over the world, it would be big news indeed.

SolarWindow did share, “Along with our SolarWindow liquid coatings for rigid glass, we’re excited to expand our capabilities with brand new ways of generating clean electricity on almost any surface imaginable by using flexible Corning Willow Glass.”

The team of researchers over at SolarWindow have sought to apply layers of the company’s liquid coatings onto Corning Willow Glass. Once done, they laminated them under conditions which will simulate the high pressure and temperatures that can be found in the manufacturing process of commercial glass and window producers. The end result? A bendable glass ‘veneer’, which is no thicker than your average business card which will then generate electricity.

SolarWindow figured out that through the installation of these sheets over current skyscraper windows, it will be able to help provide relief for the monthly electricity bill as whole buildings can be transformed into vertical power generators. Not only is the size of the carbon footprint reduced, it can also be used on other flat and curved surfaces such as on automobiles, trucks, buses, airplanes, and boats. Truly, the road to a greener world where transportation and buildings alike will help make the earth be a better place to live in is being realized. We can only wait with bated breath as to when this development is made mainstream.

The HotShotz Reusable Heat Pack will give you a source of warmth, forever Thu, 02 Feb 2017 18:30:54 +0000 Hot Shotz Roung

Winter is slowly but surely making its way out, but that doesn’t mean we’re not still freezing our buns off in the evenings. The sun might make an appearance or two during the day, but as soon as its gone, all the warmth goes along with it. We’re still stuck wearing multiple layers and an uncomfortable amount of socks to keep the cold from affecting us, wishing that we could hug a space heater without being burned.

Seeing that you don’t want to pick up an electronic device and hug it because it could possibly cause a fire, the HotShotz Round is a perfect replacement. The contents are a non-toxic food-grade solution that look like water before activation, and after pressing the button will give you quite the show. The clear liquid looks as if it’s being frozen before your eyes, and once the color and texture of the solution changes completely, you’ll have heat for 4 hours!

While it heats up in around 20 seconds, it will take 20 minutes of boiling it in water with a cloth underneath it to reset the solution. If you forget the cloth, you chance melting a hole in the housing, and if you don’t boil it long enough, the crystals will reform as it cools. The boiling aspect is a small annoyance, but it does sanitize the pack, doesn’t take up electricity for the hours of use, is reusable for as long as you take care of it, and costs around $46. There are different sizes with varying price points, but the one I bought for myself is the round, as it can cover everything from cramps and back pain to tired feet and hands.

MudWatt can teach everyone about clean, dirty energy Wed, 30 Nov 2016 18:30:21 +0000 mudwatt

You can make someone sit down in a classroom and read a book about how to put together an IKEA chair, but until they’re building it, not all of the dots are going to connect. Humans need real world experiences to understand why and how things are happening around them. Any day you don’t learn something new, you’ve probably died.

If you don’t know what to get someone for the upcoming holidays, a science project is always a fun idea! Well, that’s assuming the recipient has a vested interest in bettering themselves through play, like they would have to do with something like the MudWatt! This fun project is an award-winning STEM kit that will teach you about electricity, microbiology, and energy. Don’t be fooled by its cutesy looks, as this can teach first graders and seniors alike.

The kit harnesses the power of bacteria that creates electricity, and the best part is that you can use dirt from anywhere in the world to make this work. Not only that, but you can add food from your fridge and change the temperature to alter their power output. As the bacteria grows, you can track the progress through an app which will unlock an educational comic to give further insight into what’s happening. The classic version is a $39.99 kit, but there are several different sizes at varying prices for groups or classses ranging small to large.

Flip – a stylus with a nostalgic feel Fri, 14 Oct 2016 19:30:34 +0000 flip

We grew up using pencils and pens, so when we started using a stylus on our tablets, the feeling wasn’t completely foreign. However, when we could start doodling or doing full-scale artistic pieces on our tablets, we started to care more about the type of stylus we were using. Different responses to pressure, different types of strokes and more all came into play as more options came onto the market.

While most of the really awesome versions needed charging or Bluetooth connection, the Flip is hoping to challenge the way things are done. This is a stylus that doesn’t use batteries or Bluetooth, using magnets to know whether you’re using the drawing or erasing side of the stylus (because it has both). Thanks to the magnetic aspect, changing out different drawing tips is a breeze.

There is a mesh tip that will let you take notes, draw, or sketch with ease, an artist brush tip for a natural feeling of painting on a digital plane, and a precision cross tip for detailed drawing and sketching. Another bonus with the magnets is that it can tell exactly where the pen tip is, making sure that your palm touching the screen won’t make any unwanted marks. There’s also a nifty hover and zoom option for getting in those teeny, tiny details. On top of all that, you’ll also get an auto dimming function on your tablet so you don’t suck up unwanted battery when you’re taking notes in class, making this $40 purchase seem pretty worthwhile.

These Wool Dryer Balls will replace your dryer sheets Thu, 29 Sep 2016 18:30:13 +0000 wool-dryer-balls

When you become familiar with doing laundry, you know that dryer sheets will help clothes be softer, less-wrinkled, and remove static. The only trade-off is the amount of chemicals and synthetic fragrances they leave on your clothes. For those who have sensitive systems, it’s not fun to be uncomfortable when the whole purpose of using these products is to stop discomfort.

If you want to go a more natural route, these Wool Dryer Balls are sure to give you exactly what you want without leaving any potential issues behind. Well, unless you’re allergic to wool. These are around the size of a tennis ball, and consist completely of New Zealand Wool. They act as a natural softener, helping clothes to fluff up, as well as be wrinkle and static-free.

Since these go into your wet laundry while dry, they’ll also help speed up the drying process by sucking the moisture out of the clothing around it. If you do want some scent on your clothing, dropping some essential oils onto the balls will give the desired effect. Getting a set of 6 of these will only cost you around $15, and should last you a couple years before needing to be replaced. Should they hold up for that length of time and do their job accurately, they’ll actually cut down on your laundry expenses, as well as the health benefits of going the natural route.
