Mention Kodak, and chances are you’ll probably think about film and cameras. Well, the company is back with a bunch of new products that will definitely tickle your fancy, so let’s take a quick look at all of them before you decide whether to redirect some of your monthly resources to purchase one of these, eh? First off we have the Kodak Zi8 pocket video camera that will bring full high definition video recording within reach of the masses, while the EasyShare digital camera market will be expanded by the introduction of the Z950 and M381. As for digital photo frames, Kodak ensures it has that ground covered with the S730 and D830, while the Kodak Theatre HD player rounds off the list of recent product announcements.

Hama Digital Photo Album

July 27th, 2009 by Mark R in Digital Picture Frame, Photography

myphoto-63I don’t think that I could have sung higher praises of the Digital Foci Photo Book on my hands-on review, but that was before I saw that the Hama Photo Album is about to be released.

I suddenly had a flashback to CES last January, when I stumbled across the booth with this fine product. The only reason why I remember it is because of its Braille dot logo on the word “Album” and its simpler three-button interface. (Simpler when compared to the Photo Book, which is still pretty simple, really.)

The Digital Photo Album comes with a 7” inch screen that displays JPEGs in 800 x 480 pixel resolution. These images can be transferred directly to the device via USB port with USB OTG. There is about 4 GB worth of memory on the Album for the user’s photos, and it can also read SD, SDHC, and MM cards.

Digital Foci Photo Book

July 22nd, 2009 by Mark R in Digital Picture Frame, Photography

pbk-080_main_l1I’ve reported on Digital Foci products before, and they are a company that does not disappoint when it comes to their digital photo frames. The Digital Foci Photo Book is no exception to that rule.

The Photo Book PBK-080 harkens back to the days when people stored their photos in quality albums. It has a leather-like case that magnetically seals, and, once fully charged, the user is free to download his or her photos through memory cards or by USB flash drives to internal memory.

Toshiba releases new Digital Media Frames

July 21st, 2009 by Edwin in Digital Picture Frame

toshiba-dmf

Toshiba gets in the right frame of mind by releasing a bunch of new Digital Media Frames in order to take photo sharing to unprecedented heights, as these devices are able to deliver real-time information through its partnership with FrameChannel. Among such real-time information available at the user’s fingertips include personalized weather, traffic and sports scores alongside the capability of accessing both music and video to any room within the connected home. This trend-setting product category makes the standard digital photo frame all the more interactive, since you can now share priceless memories with friends and family regardless of where they are automatically courtesy of FrameChannel. It can link favorite content from other social sites including Flickr, Photobucket and Facebook.

Sondata Shake-A-Pix: A Shakable Digital Picture Frame

July 17th, 2009 by Mark R in Digital Picture Frame

ttv014_shake_a_pixFinally, someone has come out with a digital picture frame that gives the user a little something different than the average settings. The Sondata Shake-A-Pix uses technology that is reminiscent of the Sansa Shaker. Instead of shaking the device to go to the next MP3, you shake the frame to see your latest memory. (Be sure to read that last sentence aloud, because it has a very cool rhyme.)

According to the Product Page, the 2.4 inch TFT display is the world’s first digital photo frame to contain motion sensors that allow for its unique feature. Generally, I’m always suspicious when someone says “world’s first”, but the fact is the Shake-A-Pix has 64 MB worth of memory, which is enough for about 90 images in 320 x 240 pixel resolution.

Kodak’s new frame is Battery-powered

June 23rd, 2009 by Mark R in Digital Picture Frame

kodaklogo-sbToday must be Kodak day, because I just covered the whole death of Kodachrome film. It must also be digital picture frame week, because I just covered one from Viewsonic yesterday.

I’m sure the Kodak Easyshare S730 is not the first digital picture frame that runs on batteries, but battery power should be a standard feature for most electric frames. As it is, most digital picture frames are a slave to their own cord, which makes it really inconvenient when hanging them on the wall. Of course, the rechargeable battery on the S730 is only good one hour away from the outlet.

The frame has about 1GB of memory, which is good for storing many photos. There is a memory card reader, but no report of a USB port.

Viewsonic VFD820-12

June 22nd, 2009 by Mark R in Digital Picture Frame

514ejspg6fl_sl500_aa280_Viewsonic has been putting out a lot of cool products lately, and one of their most recent is the VFD820-12, an 8-inch digital photo frame.

I had a chance to try out this product for myself, and I didn’t find it any different than the GiiNii 8-inch Multimedia Digital Picture Frame that I currently have on my wall.

The operation is very simple on both of these products: just insert your SD card or flash drive memory stick, turn it on, and you already have everything you need for a slideshow. I don’t have much experience with digital picture frames, but I am guessing this is standard operation procedure for any electronic frame these days. The VFD820-12 has an internal memory of 2G, so you should have quite enough room for many, many pictures.
