The Monsterpod tripod sticks to just about anything

February 27th, 2009 by Ally in Digital Cameras

You might actually recognize this tripod, it was shown here a couple years ago after being featured at CES.  However, at the time there was zero purchase info and not much general information.  What’s great about this tripod is when you go on vacation either alone or with your significant other, it always bites that you can get no shots of you posing in different areas (if you’re alone) or pictures of you standing affectionately with the significant other.  It always seems like everyone has those couples pictures while they were out traveling, but it just doesn’t seem feasible.  Either you brave trusting some random stranger to hold onto your camera or you attempt to set up a tripod and timer.  Most tripods are bulky and would be difficult to set up in a busy area.  Now with this Monsterpod it’d work out great even in the most busy areas.

Hershey’s Chocolate gadgets are sadly not edible

February 25th, 2009 by Ally in Audio/Video Gadgets, Digital Cameras, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Hershey has no problem creating non-chocolate products to go with their line of sweets.  They even have Hershey dedicated stores filled with t-shirts, mugs and some chocolate scented lotion so that you can cover yourself in chocolaty goodness, which I wish I had bought when I came across it.  Then again having Hershey products, you’ll probably gain 10lbs just due to being reminded of your chocolate cravings.  Well now Hershey is even breaking into gadgets to go with their line of Hershey accessories.

Samsung rolls out two more 12 megapixel digital cameras

February 24th, 2009 by Edwin in Digital Cameras

Samsung Electronics isn’t exactly a name synonymous with quality digital cameras, but they’re getting there slowly. This time round, the Korean consumer electronics company has announced two more 12 megapixel compact digital camera models for the US that will be equipped with 24mm ultra-wide angle Schneider lenses. First off is the new Samsung TL320 that raises the bar for innovation in the digital imaging industry, as Samsung claims this is the first digital camera to feature a 3″ AMOLED display with HVGA resolution in the world. As for the new HZ15W, it boasts one of the most powerful lenses where compact point-and-shoots are concerned with an impressive focal length of 24-240mm (35mm film equivalent).

Birdwatcher’s Motion Activated Camera

February 23rd, 2009 by Edwin in Digital Cameras, Garden Gadgets

I find birdwatching to be rather boring, but there are thousands of birdwatching enthusiasts around the world who try to track their feathered friends almost religiously, getting much more excitement out of it compared to the Super Bowl. Since we humans cannot run for 24/7 without getting some rest, why not let technology be on our side to capture the image of that elusive pale-headed brush finch when you’re not around? That’s what the Birdwatcher’s Motion Activated Camera is for.

This weather-resistant digital camera detects motion and automatically snaps pictures of birds or other wildlife. When the 1.3 megapixel camera senses motion within its 9″ x 12″ field-of-view, it instantly captures up to 20 pictures in 20 seconds. The camera mounts to windows, walls, posts, or trees (mounting accessories provided). You can pan and tilt the camera up to 15° and the touch of a button projects a laser beam that shows where pictures will be taken, providing a reliable guide for directing the camera at birdbaths or bird feeders. The lens can be focused at 5′, 6 1/2′ or 10′ away from your subject, ensuring clear photographs. The camera automatically enters a “sleep” mode when no motion is detected and shuts off at night, conserving energy for more optimal shooting conditions. Pictures are time- and date-stamped and stored in JPEG format on the included 2GB SD memory card. Includes four AA batteries that provide up to 6 months of operation, a tape measure labeled with the three lens-focusing distances, and a tripod socket.

Forking out $199.95 for this sounds much better than getting a stand-in assistant who might be napping on the job.

FujiFilm’s FinePix Z33WP

February 17th, 2009 by Mark R in Digital Cameras, Photography

FujiFilm has recently announced the unveiling of several point-and-shoot cameras, including the FinePix Z33WP. These 10 Megapixel cameras promise that they are “Life-Proof”.

So what does “Life-Proof” mean? For starters, the Z33WP is waterproof up to ten feet. Sadly, I am getting reports that it is not shock-proof. Sadly, I don’t think this is as “Life-Proof” as it claims, but if you live a life without extreme sports, the Z33WP is probably more than what you need.

Nikon P90 gives you the zoom-zoom lifestyle

February 4th, 2009 by Edwin in Digital Cameras

There is a slew of Nikon digital cameras released today, but we’ll take a look at the most powerful one among the whole lot (the rest are entry level and mid-range models) – the Nikon P90. This shooter comes with a really powerful 24x optical zoom which is the 35mm-equivalent of a 26mm wide-angle to a 624mm telephoto, allowing you to snap images from as close as 1cm – that’s really something. In addition, you can also capture a moment-by-moment collage of images thanks to its ability to shoot up to 45 shots at 15 fps, making it ideal for spots photography. The Nikon P90 is smart enough to capture images before you’ve even pressed the button to make sure your slow reflexes do not let you down. Other features include 12.1 megapixel images, sensitivity of up to ISO 6400, full automatic or various manual settings and four Anti-blur technologies (Auto Scene, Face Priority AF, Smile Mode and Blink Warning). You know a digital camera is serious about what it does when the only available color is black.
