Rytir MID

May 6th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Coolest Mobile News

ic-1In all honesty, I’m not certain what the market is for MID (Mobile Internet Devices). After all, if most people have the Internet on their smartphone, I’m not certain if people need a mobile device that is exclusively for viewing the Internet.

This particular concept from designer Jan Rytir could tip the scales of the MID market quite considerably. This MID, which doesn’t have any working title, is very small, measuring in at 180 x 80 x 20mm.

The screen is an ultra-wide LCD screen that is an OLED. It is a nice slider that reveals a full QWERTY keyboard and a tiny trackball. It also features an Intel Atom processor, two USB slots, a microphone, an audio input, stereo speakers, as well as a docking connector and SD card reader.

GameGrip for the iPhone

May 1st, 2009 by Mark R in Coolest Mobile News, Gaming Gadgets

iphone_gamegripI have seen this GameGrip on another blogs, and one of them called it “the world’s most absurd iPhone accessory”. Personally, I think that is a little too harsh.

After all, there are a lot of game apps available for the iPhone right now, so why not create something that makes the iPhone like a SIXAXIS in its shape?

Maybe it’s because we all know that the iPhone may be good, but it hasn’t replaced handhelds like the DS or the PSP. Perhaps I should say that it hasn’t replaced them yet.

Husqvarna Mower Can Text You

April 26th, 2009 by Mark R in Coolest Mobile News, Garden Gadgets, Home Gadgets

automower-230-acxSure we covered the cool robotic mowers from Husqvarna before, whether they be solar-powered or non. Today, we would like to present you with the Automower 260 ACX.

What makes this guy unique? First of all, it will text you if there is problems. You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that. After all, most Roombas or other independently automated vacuum cleaners are indoors, and it is easy to check up on them if there are problems.

But an automated lawn-mower? I don’t know if I can really trust that to operate without my supervision. I may be sipping lemonade in my air-conditioned home while the Automower 260 ACX is supposedly doing the work, but for all I know, it could be running over my neighbor’s cat.

Kinesis Industries K3

April 26th, 2009 by Mark R in Coolest Mobile News, Eco Gadgets

inhabitatk3-ed01The last time we covered Kinesis, it was at CES. Back then, we were covering the unveiling of the K2, a charger for mobile devices that uses both solar power and wind power. The company has recently unveiled the K3, a “tribrid” charger. It would appear that three is indeed the magic number as a user can charge their mobile devices three ways.

The first method is with simple AC power, and the K3 is also capable of charging from a USB port or a standard car cigarette lighter. The second and third way of charging is by using the sun and the wind, and this can be done at the same time.

KDDI Gesture-based Authentication System

April 17th, 2009 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, Coolest Mobile News, Mobile Phones

swng2087634-thumb-550x454-16460I believe that we have reported on KDDI products before, and this particular one is from the Research and Development department. In other words, it is still a concept, and have no idea when this will be released.

So what is this fine new thing in development? A “gesture-based authentication system” that allows the user to access their personal mobile account with nothing but a shake. That’s right, a shake. Apparently, a special sensor can analyze your muscle structure, motion patterns, the length of a user’s arm, and can somehow get an ID from it.

Samsung MBP200 Pico Projector

April 10th, 2009 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets, Coolest Mobile News

I believe that I saw several mini projectors at CES. I remember visiting Samsung’s booth, but I don’t remember seeing the MBP200 pico projector. My sources say that it was announced back then, but I must have missed the press conference.

Specs on the Samsung MBP200 have recently been released. It comes with HVGA resolution of 480 x 320, but I’m not certain what that equals in terms of the size of the projected image. I’m surprised that I didn’t see that in the specs at all.

I do know that the MBP200 has a 2.2 inch QVGA LCD with 320×240 resolution. It can support playback for MP3, WMA, OGG, and WAV playback. Support can also be granted for DivX, Xvid, WMV9, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4.

As for memory, I’m not certain how much internal memory here is in this device. I do know that it has a microSD slot to support cards for 16GB. Anyone know how much that translates to as far as actual video footage?

Card Mobile Phone

April 7th, 2009 by Mark R in Coolest Mobile News, Mobile Phones

I’m not certain how small cellular phones are going to be in the future. Pretty soon, they will be as tiny as the one that Ben Stiller had in Zoolander.

Case in point: the card mobile phone, which is a cellular phone that is the size of a credit card. Well, it is the length and width of a credit card, but it is thick as a stack of three credit cards. That is thin enough to slide into the pocket with your Visa or MasterCard, and it weighs in at 1.3 ounces.

In case you are concerned about the lack of buttons on the card mobile phone, dialing is accomplished by navigating an onscreen dialpad, and it also comes with a built-in voice dialer. This is a dual band GSM GPRS that has about 200 minutes of talk time. The screen is either color or monochrome, and the credit card phone is waterproof.

It would appear that the user can put his or her personal message on it. Someone must be very proud that he or she won the CTIA Emerging Technology Awards.

The Card Mobile Phone will be available in June or July. Rumor has it that it will hit India, and then the United States.

Sanwa Throat Microphone

March 23rd, 2009 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets, Coolest Mobile News, Mobile Phones

Have you ever had a conversation on a cellular phone, and found that the person that you were talking to could not hear you? Or you could not hear the one that you are talking to? It would be a bad time to get that really important message, like the ones you hear about on those AT&T commercials where the main characters’ phones are talking.

SWAT teams, who work in very loud backgrounds, know about this situation. This is why they often use microphones that attach on the neck. Apparently, the neck carries as much vibrations as the mouth, so the other person on the end gets to hear you very clearly.

This is why Sanwa has made the Throat Microphone, which will be available to the general consumer. You might think that this is an unusual accessory, but there was a time when no one would be caught dead wearing a wireless headset or Bluetooth earpiece.
