When you cast out a fishing line, you would imagine you’re going to have a wriggling aquatic creature on your hook when you pull it out. This beloved summer pastime isn’t for everyone, since not everyone is fond of sitting on a boat for hours, hoping to catch a single fish. If you’re aiming to turn that fish into dinner, then you’ve also got the fun of gutting and cleaning your catch afterward, which is not for the faint of heart.

If you want a more bountiful catch without all the work, then you might like these Firebuggz Fire Fishing Poles. These are for toasting marshmallows, roasting hot dogs or cooking other meats and veggies. It consists of a maple wood handle and stainless steel frame to help you evenly cook your food without having to get too close. You only need to crank the handle and enjoy your haul.

This set comes with 2 fishing pole roasters, 2 Crank-Eez roasting tools, a fishing pole stand, and a bag to carry everything in. The poles measure 34.5” long, while the line is 21”, and when you flick your wrist, your food will flip back and forth, making sure your snacks get even heat. This is no cheap trinket at $99, and while it is likely built to last and would be fun to use, whittling a stick or getting a more traditional roasting stick would likely be cheaper.

Star Wars TIE Fighter Grill – The burgers are tasty in this one Fri, 12 May 2017 18:30:14 +0000 TIE Fighter Start Wars Gas Grill

It may be Spring, but we’re planning ahead for all the fun we’ll have in the Summer when the sun is out, the weather is temperate, and our friends are more prone to social gatherings outside. The perfect setup is having a cookout since everyone can mill about without feeling pressured to the confines of a single room. The biggest component of a BBQ is of course the grill, and you can create a setup to cook food out of just about anything, but not many will make much of a statement.

That is, unless you have the Star Wars TIE Fighter Gas Grill. This is an officially licensed Star Wars product that will let you grill the logo we all know and love onto all of your meats, veggie-based proteins, and buns. This is portable, uses standard 1-pound disposable propane tanks, and folds up to make it easy to stash in the car or closet after use.

On the surface of the grill is 220 square inches of cooking space, which should cover a modest-sized party. There are also two shelves which will give you a place for food preparation, and an analog thermometer is included to make monitoring a breeze. Keep in mind that this is not a particularly tall setup, so you will need a table or stand of some sort to keep it on unless you want to do some squats while you cook. This is not light weight at 52 pounds, and will be a heavy-hitter for your wallet as well at $399.99, but it will look really cool.

This Electric Raclette Party Grill is not, in fact, a torture device Fri, 10 Feb 2017 18:30:25 +0000 Raclette Vertical Grill

Despite what we think of ourselves, humans are pretty easy to amuse. We like watching things with pretty patterns, have vastly transformative properties, and small, fuzzy animals. For those of you who like having people over, it’s your job to keep people entertained, and find ways for your guests not only to have a good time, but keep themselves busy so you don’t have to.

If you are a foodie, as most people are, then this Gourmia Electric Raclette Party Grill would be a fun addition to your evening. This is a Sombrero-shaped vertical grill that is non-stick, will cook meat, veggies, and has 6 trays for cheese, because cheese is like crack at parties. Not only does this cook the food for you, but it’s interactive, so guests will make their own food and be excited that they got to do it!

Just to make sure that no one is going to over or under cook their food, there is a control dial that will let you adjust the temperature. This is a $55 device that is completely based on playing with your food before you eat it. You’ll need to do a lot of prep work beforehand to get the food cut up and easy to put onto the grill, as well as tiny, long-stemmed forks to move the food around, but it would certainly be a conversation starter.

The Fire UP Charcoal Starter Wand makes grilling easier Mon, 04 Jul 2016 19:30:14 +0000 Charcoal STarter Wand

Today is the day of celebration and a massive amount of meat grilling in the United States. The Fourth of July is nothing to take for granted, so the only logical response is to blow things up, drink heavily, and eat until you get meat sweats. Surely there’s a vegetarian version of that, but it probably sounds far more healthy and gross…soy sweats? Yeah, definitely gross.

If you are a fan of grilling food and partake in such an event on more than one day of the year, then you probably fiddle around with charcoal. It’s a tricky business working with those little devils, as getting them to the perfect temperature is annoying, and dangerous if you started the libations early. This Fire Up Charcoal Starter Wand is sure to help you set those coals ablaze and begin roasting cow, pig, or tofu in no time at all.

This plugs into a grounded 120V outlet, and through the use of very hot air through its plastic and stainless steel body, it will get your coals going in seemingly no time at all. The best part is that you’re not relying on matches and fuel to get it going, but the sad part is that this removes your ability to play with matches and fuel to get it going. This is a costly addition to your grillout gear at $49.99, making it feel less costly to take chances with using the old-fashioned method.

The Grating Bucket isn’t lame if you like cooking Mon, 04 Jul 2016 18:30:09 +0000 Stainless Steel Grating bucket

When you pass a certain age, you stop being concerned with getting toys and candy, instead becoming more worried about getting things that make being an adult human easier. Socks and sheets are actually useful, improve your quality of life, and because you use them regularly, getting ones of high quality make it feel like it’s your birthday whether or not it actually is. That being said, we certainly get excited about gadgets and gizmos that buzz, notify us of events, and clean things for us, but getting a better version of a non-battery-powered item can wow us just as easily.

If you’re a fan of cooking, then kitchen gadgets are likely the bane of your wallet. There are the ones that just look cool, cute, or have a specific function for something you really like. This Stainless Steel Grating Cup is a dream come true for those of us who really like freshly grated carrots, cheese, and other goodies with our meals.

Not only are the the grating blades positioned to allow you to keep grating with gravity on your side, but it’s also a cup so you can catch every morsel in one place. This only stands around 8.3 inches high, and can be put in the dishwasher, though if you’ve ruined enough graters doing that you probably will abstain from continuing the practice. This is really expensive for such a simple tool at $49.50, but maybe that just means you can actually continually put it in the dishwasher without having to deal with rust.

The Zenroast is for those who love the process of making coffee Mon, 11 Apr 2016 19:30:38 +0000 Zenroast

We as a society are absolutely fascinated by caffeine. Coffee is the nectar on which we live, and it gives us the extra pep in our step that we need to face each task of the day. For most people, making this amber liquid is a job for the night beforehand of pouring water and scooping in grounds. However, for those who wake early enough, preparing coffee from start to finish is a time to collect your thoughts and prepare for the day.

If you love the process of making coffee from selecting the beans to pouring the final drop, then the Zenroast is a kitchen accessory that may catch your eye. This is a tool from Japan that was traditionally used for roasting tea leaves or sesame seeds, but it is also perfect for roasting coffee beans. This is a ceramic container which will require you to be very involved in the process to make the perfect drink.

To prepare your morning brew, put fresh coffee beans in the Zenroast over an open flame. You’ll need to shake the beans while they cook and blow out the extra bits and pieces through the tubular handle on the side. It’s a 5-10 minute process depending on what type of roast you like, and you’ll need to put the beans in a colander or wired net to cool off. From there it’s just grind and brew! You’ll get ultra fresh coffee and learn something along the way. This is a $55 purchase that comes to you from an old factory which is one of the six ancient kilns in Japan, and the only aspect you’ll have a say in is the color of the stitching with options of blue, red, brown, green, and mustard.

The HyperChiller gives you iced coffee in a minute flat Thu, 04 Feb 2016 18:30:32 +0000 HyperChiller

We need our coffee like we need air, but the big difference in the two is that you can choose particulars of how you consume one of them. It can be espresso, french press, regular brew, cold brew, and the list goes on. If you have a particular lean towards iced coffee, then you know the struggles of getting your delicious drink as it’s time consuming. You can always cheat by going straight to ice, but that makes it taste closer to water than anything else.

The Ravi Instant Wine Cooler has a good thing going for libations, so it only makes sense that there would be options for the other end of the drink spectrum. The HyperChiller is a canister that you place into the freezer, and pour your hot coffee in for it to become cold. If you have a single serving machine you can brew directly into the Chiller, and in about 60 seconds it will bring down the temperature by 130 degrees. This can also be used for other beverages of course, but they do have a target audience in mind.

This is made up of a plastic exterior and a stainless steel interior chamber which is where the chilling magic happens. Not only is this going to save you time and effort, but it can be tossed in the dishwasher whenever you’re done. It will cost you $29.95, but for those who live on cold coffee, that’s pennies compared to how much is lost at Starbucks in a week. All you would need after pouring coffee into the HyperChiller is a glass with some ice and you’re ready to roll.

The Prepd Pack is a lunchbox that acts as a nutritionist Mon, 25 Jan 2016 18:30:28 +0000 Prepd Pack use

Bringing your lunch to school was not exactly the cool kid thing to do, but as adults we’re jealous of the people who have their lives put together enough to think ahead that far. If you don’t pack a lunch for your grown-up job, you’re stuck eating protein bars or fast food, with not many healthy options that don’t cost an arm and a leg otherwise. If you want to eat healthy, cook for yourself, and take food with you to work but don’t know the first thing about the whole process, then hopefully you know there’s an option out there for you that doesn’t have to break the bank.

Instead of going on a diet plan with pre-packaged food that’s way too high in sodium, the Prepd Pack is hoping to help you deal with lunch time by giving you a portion-controlled lunchbox. Of course, just giving you a lunch box doesn’t really do much on its own. This has a variety of modular containers which are completely leak proof that can be changed out with your wants and needs for different foods. The inside is a silicone mat for easy cleanup after eating, and the cutlery is magnetic with its own special spot inside of the lunchbox.

The app that goes with this is the possibly the biggest deal as it not only gives you tons of food and diet options, but will guide you through the recipes meant to go in the sized containers, give you ingredient lists for shopping, and help you know what all you can prep ahead to make the week easy for yourself. This will play nicely with iOS and Android, and is going to cost you $50 for a standard pack. It’s time to be a grown up and pack your lunch.

Available for crowdfunding on Kickstarter

The Lekue Cooker makes pasta in the microwave without creating a mess Mon, 17 Aug 2015 19:30:43 +0000 Pasta cooker

The more responsibilities you take on, the less time you have to deal with day-to-day tasks. Cleaning the house is relegated to a Roomba, your home energy saving system keeps track of adjusting the temperature, and meals are usually bought on the run. Cooking a full meal takes time at the grocery, unpacking and sorting everything at home, preparation, waiting for everything to cook, and cleaning up afterward.

If you are a pasta fanatic, but don’t like having to clean pots and pans, then this Lekue Pasta Cooker will help you out. It is made of plastic and platinum silicone, which means it can be tossed in the dishwasher as soon as you’re done with it. Making your pasta in the microwave is far easier than cooking it on the stove, as you only need to follow the directions on the pasta box. You won’t need to boil water and then start the cooking process, as you only need to punch in the exact number it specifies.

The white bowl portion will hold your pasta and the water, while the orange top will keep it from boiling over, and can be flipped so you can drain out the water after the pasta is finished cooking. Since the cooking and draining take place in the same container, you don’t need to pull out a colander. This is going going to cost you around $19, and as it can cook up to a half pound of pasta, it should be enough to make dinner for the whole family.
