Measure more accurately with the Scale Spoon

April 24th, 2008 by Chris in Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Spoon Scale

I don’t do a lot of cooking in the kitchen, mostly because I don’t have the patience and I’m just too picky of an eater. Most of the things I like can be made by using the microwave or boiling water, so I stick to what I like. However, if you do enjoy the culinary arts, you might be interested in this handy little measuring device.

Flat toaster makes for dangerous mornings

April 24th, 2008 by Chris in Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Flat Toaster

I’m not a morning person. I never have been, and I doubt that I ever really will. I’m the kind of guy that gets up, showers, dresses and still looks and acts like a zombie. The last thing I need in the morning is some way to make my routine more dangerous, because lets face it, I’m clumsy enough when I’m not groggy. Needless to say, this toaster won’t be making its way into my kitchen any time soon.

Philips brings toasters to the 21st century

February 29th, 2008 by Chris in Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

Phillips toaster

Toast has to be one of the most simplistic pieces of food to make that actually requires preparation. Just pull out the bread, pop it in the toaster, pull down the lever and it does the rest. The toaster itself is rather simple, you have metal brackets that hold down the toast and wires along the sides that heat up your bread. However, that just seems too simple for Philips, who has created a more modern toaster.

Robot Coupe Bread Slicer: I Have No Words.

February 28th, 2008 by Carolyn in Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

robot_coupe.jpgI know - this is another day of “wow that’s a gadget I would have never thought of” here at Coolest Gadgets. You all will recall the friggin’ awesome Steak Toaster from last week (which is still the most awesome thing ever) - and now this week we have an innovation in bread slicing.

I know what you’re thinking - “bread slicing? Is that the best thing since sliced bread?” as you dissolve into giggles at your own cleverness. Again, some clever (but slightly twisted) individual took a look at his salad shooter, then at his baguette lying on the counter and though “dude, I need something to shoot sliced baguette!” Thus the Robot Coupe Bread Slicer was born.

Being neither a robot nor a coupe, the Robot Coupe Bread Slicer is a gleaming, stainless steel monolith that will tear through baguette like a hot knife through butter. The description from the seller’s website (spelling errors not corrected!):

Steak Toaster = Greatest Thing EVER

February 21st, 2008 by Carolyn in Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

steakhouse-grill-ariete.jpgWho doesn’t love steak? “Vegetarians,” you might say - but for the purposes of this review, everyone loves steak! Now I genuinely love a nice steak, cooked to medium to medium rare on a grill with some sauteed mushrooms and onions on the side, steamed vegetables and a nice baked potato. I’m drooling just thinking about it.

But what if it’s too cold to grill outside? What do you do then?

Some visionary looked at a steak and thought “wow…I could totally toast that sucker!”. Thus the Steak Toaster (a.k.a. the SteakHouse Grill) was born. From the product’s website:

New electric grill that takes true grilling to the table. With SteakHouse Grill, food products cook without coming into contact with their fats as is true with traditional grilling. It leaves behind neither smoke nor smells in the kitchen. In fact, its vertical position ensures that the fats drain into the special tray. Not only is the food lighter and tastier, but this also prevents the formation of annoying smoke as the fats stay far away from the heating elements. It is kept in a vertical position while cooking by the special internal grill equipped with springs that adapt to foods having different thicknesses, from 3 cm down to half a centimeter. The two vertical plates also guarantee cooking is completed in half the time because the foods cook on both sides at the same time, and without having to turn them over.

Handpresso: For Coffee Lovers On The Go

January 11th, 2008 by Carolyn in Eco Gadgets, Cooking Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets, Home Gadgets

handpresso.jpgYou know you’ve been there. You’ve been traveling and all you want is a nice hot espresso. You head to a national chain coffee shop (rhymes with Car Ducks) to get your fix. But wait! They burn the crap out of it! Now your espresso fix is ruined. Or what if you’re miles and miles away from any civilized place with an espresso machine - what do you do then?

The Handpresso is an innovative gadget that allows you (with the purchase of their specialized coffee pods) to brew a nice cup of espresso with just hot water! The description from the website:

Handpresso Wild is at the core of the NOMADIC ESPRESSO. Simple, light, elegant and compact, it works without electricity. It has all the basic qualities to make a premium quality coffee anywhere.

Handpresso Wild prepares a tasty espresso of outstanding quality (according to the manufacturer) obtained by a high-pressure extraction, a patented Handpresso system. The coffee is listed as “a fine and smooth crema, subtle aromas, a structured body, a lengthy finish: a ‘vintage’ coffee!” How do you brew such tasty cup of espresso? Just pump the machine to 16 bar (of pressure, I’m assuming), add hot water from a kettle or a thermo insulated bottle and an Easy Serving Espresso (E.S.E.) pod. Then, serve the espresso in the cup of your choice by pushing the button. Read the rest of this entry »

Iwavecube Personal Microwave for Tiny, Tiny Food

January 10th, 2008 by Carolyn in Cooking Gadgets, Office Gadgets, Kitchen Gadgets

102591262d.jpgYou know you’ve done it - you’ve been sitting at your desk and your coffee is cold. Or you think “wow…I would love to heat up my lunch but I know there’s a line for the microwave in the kitchen”. You wish you had your own microwave. What if you had your own a personal, portable microwave? Forget all those trips to the kitchen or treks to the cafeteria — now you can reheat coffee right at your desk or nuke some soup for your brown-bag lunch.

The innovative Iwavecube personal microwave has all the electronic controls and safety features you expect, but it takes up less than a cubic foot of space. Plug it in anyplace that’s handy — work or home office; home gym; family room; nursery; wet bar; dorm room; work bench; pool house.everywhere! The quiet, super-energy-efficient iwavecube measures just 10″ x 10.5″ x 12″ and weighs only 12 lbs. Features a built-in carry handle and view-through door. Plugs into standard outlet.

My only problem is that there’s no way in hell this microwave will heat up a Lean Cuisine meal or anything larger than a Hot Pocket. I’m not sure I want to spend $129.95 on a coffee warmer. But if having a tiny, tiny microwave is something you’ve always dreamed of, then you can pick one up over at the Sky Mall.
