Designers, vs. inventors, can you slap a label on this?

by Fred

I was,, irked today.  Here is the image that did it. Now I’m not mad because someone put together the thought that,, “If I put weights on and play with the Wii I’ll get a better workout.”  Nor was I angry at the fact that they bothered to get their branding correct, (though I’m sure at no point they contacted Nintendo or any of it’s business partners). This “friend” or …

Patent Series Nr.2 – Baby Cage & Be The Bike

by Tiago

Baby Cage

This post is part of the Patent Series – you can read number 1 about the Smokers Hat. Ther are two patents for today that keep up with the same comic level as the previous, I don’t know what some of the people that filled these patents were thinking of, but hey, a stupid idea for some can be great idea for others – and “tastes” are not a matter …

Compact Analog Joystick could impact future devices positively

by Edwin

compact-analog-thumbstick.jpg

The analog joystick that is found on most gamepads is one of the better methods of interacting with a device, but unfortunately for those living a truly mobile lifestyle, the large size of the analog joystick makes it unwieldy to be used in a host of portable devices such as cellphones and even handheld consoles. What better way to work around this problem than this conceptual Compact Analog Joystick?

Nanobatteries, from mPhase, they’re probably just the future

by Fred

mphase logo

Nanobatteries, I sure love new words. A company called mPhase has been developing a nanomaterial based battery with some very amazing properties. When they reach scale for mass production their claims for their nanobatteries are that they will be recyclable, they will have indefinite shelf life (in case you need to use it 50 years from now), and instant usability (which if they are touting seems odd, as that’s what …

By using a GPS system and video camera eyes Yuki-taro is able to find snow, suck it up and compress it into blocks for easy storage, these are then …

Patent Series Nr.1 – The Smokers Hat

by Tiago

Smokers Hat

After a one week and a half break on my part, I’m back in good shape to bring you some of the best concepts/patents ever created. Maybe best is not the right word to describe them, I think that idiotic or laughable is more proper and you will see why on the upcoming series. My plan is to reach at least 10 series, but as you know most plans always …

All-in, the Air Camper can accommodate two people. …

CabBoots – The Boots that Tell You Where to Go

by Al

CAB Boots

Currently at the prototype stage CabBoots are a new sort of guidance system for pedestrians that tell the walker were to walk by communicating with what does the walking, the feet. Invented by German interface designer Martin Frey, CabBoots use electromechanical elements and servos to tilt the boot when you are going in the wrong direction. Martin explains this in a more meaningful way.
