‘Trading Faces’ Digital Mirror Is Like A Real Life Face/Off

June 19th, 2008 by AndrewD in Conceptual Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

Does anyone remember that movie with Nicholas Cage and John Travolta where technology has advanced so much that people are capable of having an entire body transplant, including their face? Pretty sweet flick now that I think about it. And while we haven’t quite reached the point of totally accurate face transplants, there is some digital technology that might allow us to do something similar, just for fun, completely virtually.

It’s called “Trading Faces” and the project actually revolves around the use of digital mirrors to superimpose other peoples faces on your own. Except for the fact that users have someone elses facial features, they look totally normal. But the progress of this sort of technology could possibly lead to some pretty suspicious motives.

The SIX lighted chair looks super comfortable

June 18th, 2008 by Ally in Conceptual Gadgets, Office Gadgets

It seems today I have a thing for odd office furniture, I swear I didn’t actually start out the day deciding to write up electronically charged furniture.  First there was the Executive Desk, and now this odd little chair.  However, although the desk is up for sale, this chair is still a concept design.  The SIX chair was inspired by architectural designs, such as the Eiffel tower.  The odd little chair can be equipped with a light to give a nice glowing effect in your office.

CPR Resuscitation Pad Makes Life Saving Easier

June 17th, 2008 by AndrewD in Conceptual Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Medical Gadgets

Statistics show that CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can increase the chances of a victim surviving by up to 50%. That’s five lives saved out of every 10 instances of the process. The problem is that many people, even those who are CPR certified, perform the action inaccurately, sometimes causing even more damage than was present in the first place.

But not all is lost, even for those who are unlucky enough to have a possibly fatal heart attack among a crowd with no CPR experience. The CPR-PAD by the aptly named designer Ryan Helps aids the administrator to accurately perform CPR using proper rhythm and hand positioning thanks to its intuitive design and features.

Welcome Mat Table: Make Yourself At Home

June 16th, 2008 by AndrewD in Conceptual Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets

At a time where furniture design is more focused on form than function, there is always a cult of rebellious designers who say “Screw that!” regarding the typical standards of the design trends. While it’s not a typically pretty piece, Luis Eslava’s Welcome Table is a brash rebellion against the tables of Ikea and other decor fitting home surfaces.

Inspired from the hospitality of door step welcome mats, the Welcome Table invites your guest to make themselves at home, moving the floor mat to the table surface. Want to put your legs on the table? Don’t worry about being rude! This table is made for your rudeness!

Momenta Next Generation PC

June 16th, 2008 by Mark R in Conceptual Gadgets, PC Gadgets

Did you ever feel like you are so into your computer that it practically has you by the throat? Well, this next generation Momenta is designed to sits around your throat.

Yes, that collar that this woman is wearing is a PC. I’m sure you are wondering how it can function without any type of visible display. There is apparently a projector in front of the apparatus, so your information will be seen on any nearby blank wall. The user can then touch the displayed screen, and the Momenta somehow knows where your fingers have been.

The Momenta can also sync wirelessly with any display with wide coverage of 700 MHz. Another one of the more interesting features of this device is that it can record the last five minutes of your life. Apparently, it can sense your increased your heart rate, and then cameras in the Momenta come on. You now have your memory (or lack thereof) stored in digital file for safekeeping.

The very retro M21 Flat Panel TV

June 12th, 2008 by Ally in Conceptual Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Theater, Retro Gadgets

If your flat panel TV is looking entirely too modern in your home, this prototype design might spark your interest. The M21 Flat Panel definitely looks more like one of the earlier TVs than the sleek ones offered today. Although I love how the flat panels look, someone that has a home that is overly retro might not want to slap something so modern into their living room. Something like this would blend in a lot better. Besides that, if you’re robbed by really ignorant criminals, maybe they’ll be fooled and leave it alone thinking it’s just an old outdated TV.

The design was made by Joe Wilkerson, but anyone that is great with their hands could probably easily make something similar. It’d probably be faster than waiting on the prototype to hit the market. Especially since prototypes don’t always get made. This particular design features a 42” plasma screen and is designed after TVs from the 1950s. The designer is still testing the waters and seeing what kind of public interest his design draws before he takes any further steps with it. At some point he hopes to make a wider and shorter version that features a bit of storage. Which means for all those interested in the design keep a lookout on his page for any new pictures he may post.
