Night vision goggles ought to be fun

August 14th, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Spy Stuff

nv-gogglesWatched enough spy movies to come to a conclusion that night vision googles is one essential tool that no covert operative should go without? You can now re-enact your own spy theatrics with this pair of Night Vision Goggles. It allows you (and your kids who obviously want to have a go at it) to view up to 15 meters ahead even in pitch black darkness. Just make sure that there isn’t going to be any sudden flashes of light lest you end up dazed. The Night Vision Goggles will work using infra-red light and at full power the light is still barely visible to the naked eye. They are pretty expensive at £99.99 a pop for a kid’s toy though, so be careful with this when playing.

Nickelodeon Dell Inspiron Mini targets kids

August 12th, 2009 by Ally in Childrens Gadgets, PC Gadgets

dell-nickelodeon-mini-2

If the Disney Asus netbooks weren’t something you could see your kids using, you might like the Dell Inspiron Mini designed for kids.  These seem to be better suited for an age range slightly older than the Disney Asus.  Plus it will allow for you to not only compare looks between the laptops, but also choose the one you’re going to trust the most.  All the while not having to sacrifice portability, since both are small designs.

Lego Wind-Up Dynamo Torch

August 10th, 2009 by Ally in Childrens Gadgets, Eco Gadgets

lego_dynamo

Everyone has had their days where they’d love nothing more than to pick up the toys that they loved so much as a kid and just kill an afternoon.  Which makes me think that this Lego Dynamo Torch will be just as much of a hit among Lego loving adults as it will kids who are currently building various things with Legos.  Even better than it being a Lego themed flashlight is that it’s eco-friendly on top of it.

Rainbow projector clock

August 8th, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Home Gadgets

rainbow-clock1Want to be a Care Bear? The Rainbow projector clock is absolutely awesome then if you loved that 1980s cartoon, where it will project a beautiful rainbow across your wall, or even in your room’s ceiling. You can choose from three different modes – Variation, Slow and Vivid. The three cycles will involve the rainbow fading in from red to purple, color by color gradually, before it fades out from red to purple once again. In addition, it will appear in order so that your little ones can learn the right order as well visually. You can pick this puppy up for $23 a pop.

Twilight Turtle

August 2nd, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Home Gadgets

twilight-turtleI’m not too sure about you, but am I the only one who wonders whether the Twilight Turtle will induce nightmares in your kid instead of having it put your little one to dreamland faster? After all, the skin on this turtle seems to be more shriveled up than having soaked one’s fingers and toes in the bathtub for a whole day, and it could give a very bad first impression to little ones about how turtles look.

The turtle emits a warm ambient glow from his shell, casting eight night sky constellations on to the walls of your child’s bedroom. This soothing night light, with 3 relaxing colours, not only helps your children sleep, but you can teach them 8 of the most recognisable constellations while reading them their favorite bedtime story. Besides making the Twilight Turtle look gorgeous in the dark, the three colours of the nightlight apparently have a practical use: the autumnal glow of amber radiates warmth, good cheer and peace; blue is supposed to calm the mind and the senses – it’s one of the most natural colours in the world (just think about how many blue things you see every day: the sky, the sea, that jumper your aunty knitted you for Christmas). It encourages relaxation and promotes a good night’s sleep; green is the colour of life – it too can be found everywhere in nature and is said to have healing and rejuvenating properties. So not only do you get a soft plush turtle with a star emitting shell, it’s also a great relaxation aid for your child.

If you’re adamant on bringing this Twilight Turtle home, it can be yours for £29.99.

Non Stop Top

July 28th, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Toys

non-stop-top

Love playing tops? I’m guessing kids these days hardly have enough playing time with traditional games such as these since the scourge of video games have long taken over, with first blood drawn by Zelda’s sword when the NES was in its element. Well, travel a few decades back with the top and infuse it with modern technology, resulting in the Non Stop Top.

The Non Stop Top bucks the laws of physics with ease, you spin it and off it goes, not for a minute, not ten, not twenty, not an hour, but for up to eight hours!! All it takes is a gentle twist and the motory gizmos inside the top (powered by a couple of watch batteries) spring into action, the lights flash bright and before you know it, it’s picking up speed and steadily working its way around your desk. Addictive, silly, mesmeric, and strangely not as impossible as you’d have thought. You could probably win quite a wad of cash by taking bets from the uninformed as to how long your new top will spin.

A couple of CR2032 batteries will power this £9.99 device, and it will certainly prove to be a source of amusement for some time to come, especially during those boring, slow days at the office desk.

Metal Detecting Dune Buggy

July 24th, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Remote Control, Toys

metal-buggyWe’ve seen some pretty decent metal detectors in the past, but Hammacher is back with a more novel way to discover hidden treasures at the beach or in your backyard with their Metal Detecting Dune Buggy.

This is the remote control dune buggy that can detect buried metallic objects when driven over suitable terrain, including backyards, dirt lots, low grass, or flat sand. The buggy can detect buried iron-based metals down to 4″ and when it does, it flashes a red LED and begins beeping to alert you of potential treasure. The remote controls forward, backward, left, and right movement from up to 25′ away. Metal detecting sensitivity can be modified to suit the terrain with a simple dial on the buggy. Includes three faux gold doubloons (metal) to bury and two plastic digging tools. Four AA batteries (not included) for the remote provide up to four hours of operation; buggy requires one 9-volt battery (not included).

The product description reads “Ages 8 and up”, and chances are the adults might be spending more time on this than their little one since times are pretty hard, so who knows, you might actually discover some hidden treasure right smack in the middle of your backyard, eh? The Metal Detecting Dune Buggy is going for $49.95, so you might need to discover a fair number of lost coins before recouping your initial investment costs.

Lamaze Octotunes

July 16th, 2009 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets

lamaze-octotunesIt does make us wonder whether kids are being thrust into an extremely competitive environment at such a young age these days, where parents have already introduced them to Mozart while they’re still in the womb. Well, you know that parents are partial to giving their little ones the very best, and a solid educational foundation is more often than not one of the criteria. The Lamaze Octotunes help your young charges stay ahead of the “competition”, by using Dr. Lamaze’s tried and tested methods to bring out the singer/songwriter hidden within. Each of the eight tentacles will play a different note when squeezed, and it comes with a song book for easy learning. Apart from that, it will come in many colors to stimulate your child’s mind, while soft fabrics used turns it into an extremely huggable toy. $29.99 is the asking price for this puppy.
