Sony has announced it is discontinuing the 60GB PS3 which went for $499, and instead is releasing a smaller 40GB model to sell for one hundred dollars less ($399). The 80GB model has also cut it’s price by a hundred bucks ($499). Still too expensive for my taste. The move is to position the PS3 to compete with both the Xbox and Wii which have price points of $350 and $250 respectively. Granted, the PS3’s High Definition graphics are amazing. But what has been it’s killing point is the price, which arguably includes a Blu-ray DVD drive – which alone can eat up it’s price tag. But here’s lies the rub …

Towelie talking action figure
October 12th, 2007 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Gadget Gift Ideas, Toys
I’d freak out if my towel looked like that - large, bulging eyes with red veins snaking all over, a gaping mouth, and all the other humanoid appendages. Nevertheless, kids might find the Towelie Talking Action Figure interesting as he measures 9″ tall and spews out (supposedly) witty phrases at random, for example, “Oh man, I have no idea what’s going on right now!”. You can pick up the Towelie Talking Action Figure for $23.99. Chances are any Homer Simpson talking toys out there will definitely beat Towelie hands down when it comes to witticisms.
Star Wars Lego watches
October 12th, 2007 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Toys
There is just something extremely cute about the Star Wars universe in the Lego format, and this time the Star Wars Lego watches are something worth checking out. Being water resistant up to 50 meters (which is deeper than most people would ever bother diving), each of these watches come with a different color scheme, depending on the Lego character you pick up (choose from Darth Vader, R2, a Clone Trooper, and Luke the man himself), a few extra links for you to adjust the strap’s length, and a mini figure. They retail for $19.95 each and should make a pretty decent Christmas gift.

Dogs and Cats are at it again
October 5th, 2007 by Edwin in Childrens Gadgets, Home Gadgets, Toys, Wacky Gadgets
The perpetual war between dogs and cats are still raging, and this time competition has elevated from merely a physical encounter to something more cerebral. Hence, the need for a Dog and Cats Chess Set. It is just opposite sides, really, but the fact that they are all dressed in medieval outfits definitely warrant a laugh, or a cynical smile. The Dog and Cats Chess Set retails for $129.
The Meade MySky: exploring strange new worlds is the “aim”
October 3rd, 2007 by James in Childrens Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, GPS gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Robot GadgetsIt may look like a phaser (well, only vaguely), but it’s the coolest stargazing aid to come out this year. The Meade MySky allows you to explore the heavens simply with a point and shoot. It’s database comes with 30,000 objects in the night sky and also can show cool multimedia astronomy presentations. And thanks to its 12-channel GPS receiver, there’s no complicated alignment either. It’s all automatic, which is something previous attempts at a handheld observatories have been woefully lacking at.
The Fly Fusion grows up
October 3rd, 2007 by James in Audio/Video Gadgets, Childrens Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets, Spy Stuff, ToysYou probably saw the marketing for it. How you can take a piece of paper, draw numbers and a “+,-,x and /” and suddenly you have a calculator. But that was just the beginning. It looks like Leapfrog is taking the Pentop Computer to a whole new level with the updated Fly Fusion Pentop Computer. While its main focus is still for middle school age students who need a solid digital study aid, the Fly Fusion seems to have matured with a design that incorporates more advanced features - thereby making it of interest to older students and even adults as well.
