Neonode N2 Cell phone

January 9th, 2008 by Mark R in CES 2008, Coolest Mobile News, Tech News

Neonode N2

To all those who work for Neonode, let it me known that the employee known as Claudia deserves a raise. The reason being is because there were many booths at CES 2008 that ignored me completely, even though I could bring them some easy press.

However, Claudia came right up to me and showed me the Neonode N2, and she had me at hello. She was legitimately excited about this product, and it was easy to see why.

The Neonode N2 was quite a tiny device that I hesitate to describe as a one-handed iPhone, but it certainly is the simplest description. Basically, you hold it in one hand, and you use your thumb to do all the scrolling movements.

Checking Tire Pressure the Gadget Way

January 9th, 2008 by Al in CES 2008, Vehicle Gadgets

TPMS
Checking the tire pressures of your car is generally pretty tedious and involves checking each individually either with your own tool or a trip to the garage, this next gizmo lets you see the pressure without leaving the driving seat (if, unlike me, you have a new swanky car it might already do this for you but this site is for us cheapskates too).

The TPMS-201 (which I assume stands for Tire Pressure Monitoring System) is a set of valves that connect to each of your cars wheels, these then measure and transmit the pressure to a display unit that you mount on the dash. The display unit shows you each tires pressure or temperature in real time giving you the knowledge to pump your tires for optimum performance .

There are versions for both 4 and 6 wheelers, more info and availability over on DigiTire

Self-rotating Globe Thingie, The Mova Globe

January 9th, 2008 by Al in CES 2008

Move Globe

I’ve heard and written about the Mova Globe before, okay it’s old but still cool, but this is the first time I’ve held and seen one in real life and it’s now even more cool and some what bewildering. The Mova Globe can be placed on static stand and it will rotate on its own. Though for the best effect check out the video of Business Develpoment Director, Alex Kalmanson holding it up.

Can’t see the video? Click here.

The globe uses solar power and the earths magnetic field to perform it’s magic and as it uses 50 worldwide patents that’s as much as they were prepared to tell me.

The Mova Globe costs $100 - $150 and is wirth every cent IMO.

Atlantic EGO iceBar2 Waterproof Speaker System for iPods

January 9th, 2008 by Mark R in CES 2008, iPod gadgets

iceBar 2

I believe that our Apple iPods are built to be durable, but they are not that durable. I’ve heard that thousands of cell phones are dropped into toilets everyday, so you can imagine that iPod’s are just as vulnerable. I don’t have a stat about how many iPods get flushed each day, but I imagine a nano would actually make it all the way to the ocean.

The iceBar2 is designed specifically to keep an iPod nano safe from water damage in any situation. Okay, not any situation, but up to three meters of water.

This iceBar2 Speaker System is a waterproof and shatterproof case which can protect the iPod from not only dust and scratches, and that wet foe: water.

Powramid 6 way power adapter

January 9th, 2008 by Marc in Audio/Video Gadgets, CES 2008, Home Gadgets

powermid

In my first post of this years CES I made a passing reference to a heated discussion over the colour of the LED on your power block. This is the product in question - the Powramid is a 6 way adapter, designed to save space but still ensure that each outlet can accommodate a "wall wart" power brick. And yes, you can choose the colour of the top LED!

Hp MediaSmart LCD HDTVs and Receiver

January 9th, 2008 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets, CES 2008

hp MediaSmart

Our buddies over at hp are doing some very cool stuff with television/computer linking with their new MediaSmart line. The MediaSmart televisions are designed to hook up either wired or wirelessly with your computer so you can browse your photos, music, and HD video files.

It works with a menu option that allows you to select with the remote the particular media you want. Not only that, it can work with several computers, and the menu will pool all pictures, videos, and music together.

The viewer also has an option to do some very interesting things. For example, you can start some music up and then start a photo slideshow. A user can also download movies from Cinema Now, for some high quality theater movies in the home.

TomTom Rider Motorcycle GPS navitation

January 9th, 2008 by Sam in CES 2008, GPS gadgets

Tomtom

At last, there’s now a GPS navigation system for motorcyclists which is robust enough to cope with the outdoor life of a biker. It’s been designed so that the icons are larger therefore easy to use whilst wearing gloves and has improved shock and vibration resistance. It’s also waterproof (very necessary if you live in the UK as it’s normally quite wet here).

The TomTom Rider, as seen at CES 2008, is currently available in the USA and Canada, with Europe coming soon. It comes loaded with comprehensive maps of the USA and Canada together with millions of points of interest (such as the nearest Maccy D’s) and incorporates in-helmet navigation instructions with Cardo scala-rider Bluetooth headset. The bluetooth technology also allows hands-free calling and provides in-helmet navigation instructions to help you on your way.

B&O Unveil new range at CES 2008

January 9th, 2008 by Marc in Audio/Video Gadgets, CES 2008, Home Theater

Beo5c Bang and Olufsen, the Danish manufacturer of stylish AV gear, launches a bunch of new products this year at CES:

The BeoVision8 is a 32" LCD TV, which is new to the North American market this year. At $4000 B&O think their typical customer will see this as a secondary TV for the kitchen, game room etc but they’re also hoping that the price point will entice new consumers to the brand. They’re proud of the the sound quality on the set and I have to say they have a point; For a TV, it does sound very good indeed.

B&O have also applied their design flair to the ubiquitous MP3 player. With it’s polished steel and smoked glass facia, the BeoSound 6 looks the part. A 40 hour battery life makes it unique in the market and it ships with the A8 headphones.

Lastly, to tie your whole system together they give the universal remote a facelift with the Beo5 remote (pictured). If you’re a B&O customer you’ll want this. It brings together a full colour, customisable touch screen with some useful hard buttons. It learns the remote codes from your existing kit so it can control non B&O devices too. It’s not user-customisable - when you buy the remote you’ll also need to set up a consultation with your dealer, who will program it for you to your specifications.
