Hot Wheels get some camera action
We have seen some neat developments in Hot Wheels cars recently. For example, there were those miniature R/C cars the size of regular Hot Wheels cars.
I suppose someone decided to give those tiny cars even more of an upgrade with Mattel’s Video Racer. The Video Racer has a small video camera that is able to record 30 to 60 frames per second, as it is speeding down the racing track or the kitchen counter.
When the racing is done, the user has the option of watching them. This can be done on a tiny LCD on the underbelly of the car, or the footage can be downloaded to a PC or laptop via USB. It doesn’t look like an SD card is an option, but it really should be.

BMW: Emergency Stop Assistant – because you can’t drive unconscious
Sometimes when I am walking down the stairs I wonder, what would happen if I fainted right now? Of course I spend a goodly percentage of my life wondering about weird stuff like that. I won’t tell you anymore about it. It’s probably not a good thing.
However, at least now I know what could happen if I had a medical emergency while I was driving my BMW. BMW’s Emergency Stop Assistant will have the ability to sense your emergency, safely take control of your vehicle, bring it to a standstill on the shoulder and even call the ambulance for you. NEOs Concept Vehicle
This is the NEOS concept vehicle, which is some sort of motorbike combined with a car. It can take two people at once, and runs on electricity.
As you can see, the front tires are completely without spokes, and there is a lot of advanced tech going on here like a touchscreen display, GPS, sideview cameras, and docks to connect to the cellphone as well.

Robotic road train could change commuting as we know it
I think we all know that most of us waste a lot of quality work time driving to and fro to work each day. To make matters worse, some of us decide to “use the time better” by talking on the cell phone or doing other mobile applications that lead to distracted driving accidents.
There is a lot of work on making a driverless car, and the image that you see here is a different idea. What you are looking at here are robotic road trains, and it is a way to get ordinary cars grouped together like train cars in a wireless configuration.
I know that you can’t really read the fine print on the image, but the concept works by having a lead vehicle traveling down the highway, and then other cars join up by entering their destination. From there, six to eight cars will be guided wirelessly by the leader, and they can sit comfortably and do anything they want. Heck, they could probably even sleep. Once the driver/passenger approaches their destination, they can simply break off from the train and go on their way.

DARPA creates flying Humvee with the TX
Every once in a while, you see DARPA flexing its military and scientific muscles, and you’ll see some sort of cool device that looks like it has leaped out of a science-fiction story.
Take this particular vehicle that is half Humvee and half helicopter, and the TX (which is what this vehicle is called) has the ability to do 65 miles per hour on land and 150 mph in the air.
It is hard to believe that this thing can actually fly, but it is apparently made from a composite anti-blast armor and ballistic proof windows.

PhotoFast – A new wireless audio solution for your car
I love my iPod, and I especially love my music collection, what I don’t love is trying to listen to my iPod in the car. I hate driving with earbuds and my stupid little portable speaker just doesn’t cut it. But since the introduction of Airplay, Apple’s new streaming technology that allows audio (photos and video) to be streamed from any iOS device to another iOS device, I knew good things were about to happen.
Enter PhotoFast, the newest way to listen to your tunes, the way you want to, in your car. After what appears to be a somewhat labor intensive, although pretty straightforward installation, this cool little black WIFI box will automatically turn on when you start your car and will connect with your WIFI enabled device, streaming your music library through your stereo system. Very nice. Continue reading » PhotoFast – A new wireless audio solution for your car
Metropolis II: Art, Toy, or Both?
Now that Thanksgiving is over, a lot of households are setting up a toy electric train track around a Christmas tree. Imagine if you had to set up something like this!
This is the Metropolis II installation by Chris Burden, which is a huge track made up of 1,200 Matchbox or Hot Wheels cars zipping around and around. I have a video of it after the jump, but I don’t see any of the toy trains.
I do see all the cars, which are put on some sort of weird conveyor with many twists and turns. You will note the two inclined planes in the middle that carries the cars slowly to the top like a roller coaster.
