SAFA X-Lay portable media player

by Edwin

safa-pmp.jpg

Safa has a spanking new portable media player known as the X-Lay. This little device does more than just play audio as it handles video as well, including APE, FLAC, WMA, WAV and MP3 formats. Unfortunately, the tiny screen size that measures a mere 1.8″ isn’t going to be of any good to your eyes for long hours of viewing. I suppose this is great if you want to catch a quick Britney Spears video, as three hour movie marathons are a no-no for the health of your eyes. Other features include an integrated FM radio, a photo album, and e-book support among others. The X-Lay will come in 1GB and 2GB capacities that retail for $95 and $116 respectively.

Fujitsu bids plasma business adieu

by Edwin

fujitsu-quits-plasma.jpgFujitsu, a plasma display pioneer, has decided that they have had enough of the plasma TV business and has taken the decision to quit it, no doubt with competitive pressures from lower cost LCD panels being one of the main reasons. Isn’t it ironic that Fujitsu was the first company to introduce plasma TVs to the world? It would be somewhat like having Ford stop manufacturing automobiles altogether. According to Fujitsu of Japan, they will stop producing plasma TVs due to the cold hard fact that they cannot make enough money at it, let alone profit. It does make me wonder though – how about the other companies that still roll out plasma TVs? How are they doing it in order to stay afloat?

Image Moments digital photo frame line expanded

by Edwin

digital-foci.jpgDigital Foci, Inc. is set on releasing a trio of customizable Image Moments digital photo frame next month at CES 2008 in Las Vegas, with the main attraction being a 5.7″ model that has been tipped to boast the highest pixel density display currently available on the market. This display is known as the Image Moments 6 screen and boasts VGA (640 x 480) resolution, LED backlighting with pixel density of 140 PPI, complete with a two tone, mirror polished chrome finish. 5.7″ is a pretty strange designation where screen size is concerned, and it certainly doesn’t live up to the 7″ digital photo frames where size is concerned these days. Well, at least the high pixel density makes up for the smaller size, but I think people have gotten used to 7″ being the sweet spot by now.

Bean Bag chairs get geeky thanks to hi tech upgrades

by James

iBean

Since the late 60s and early 70s college students looking for affordable dorm furniture have always had the bean bag chair to turn to. A big sack filled with beans that could be tossed anywyere was quite the rage with the hippy generation. Then there was a lull for about twenty years, but a huge comeback in the 90s when using shredded polyurethane foam pellets made the bean bag chair even more affordable and allowed for more innovation in the form of larger furniture concepts. Well, now the bean bag chair is gone hi-tech with the iBean. Of course it has, isn’t that the law when using an “i” in front of a product name?

The iBean Bag chair comes with front dual speakers and a sub woofer for a surround sound experience. It’s compatible with any mp3 player, electronic gaming device, dvd player or laptop computer and headphone jacks allow for easy plugin of most models. There’s also an easy to reach side control panel to adjust boeth volume and bass levels. The iBean comes in fourt different colors: red, black, navy blue and turquoise and costs a very affordable $99, with optional ottoman sold separately.

Cool man.

Headphones get some wood

by Edwin

jvc-victor-earphones.jpgVictor Company that hails from Japan will be rolling out the HP-FX500 sometime in February next year – an inner ear headphones that does not rely on plastic, but wooden diaphragms instead. This adds a touch of elegance whenever you groove to your favorite tunes, and I sure as heck hope that the wood use has already been treated so that termites won’t be able to have a field day munching on it! This isn’t the first offering from Victor Company to use wood though, as the company has already started the mass production and sales of stationary speaker unit using wooden diaphragms way back in 2003.

Nintendo Wii plays music too!

by Edwin

mp3tunes.jpg

The Nintendo Wii isn’t about to be left behind in terms of all round entertainment. While most of us would associate the Wii with some sort of arm flailing action in the living room (more fun when you’ve had a couple of beers IMHO), MP3tunes has taken a different step by allowing Wii owners to use the device’s controller to wirelessly stream their personal music collection from their own Music Lockers. Tracks are all stored in the MP3tunes Music Lockers which incidentally, can also be played on the PS3, a range of Windows Mobile devices and Internet radios among others, courtesy of MP3tunes’ open API.
