Incredibly Portable DVD Player

August 23rd, 2006 by Liam in Audio/Video Gadgets

Incredibly Portable DVD Player
There seems to be hundreds of different portable DVD players out there, however for the most part they all have the flip-up, laptop kind of design. I find that this is a really neat and better design for a portable DVD player as it reminds me of a portable CD player, except with a screen on the top.

It’s great design lets you hold it right in the palm of your hand so you can watch your DVDs wherever you go in a much more compact and hand-held way. The plastic case is even padded with a rubber frame so it’s easy to grip, making it perfect for carrying around.

Assign Drive Letter i to Your iPod

August 23rd, 2006 by methodshop in Software, iPod gadgets

Microsoft Windows assigns drive letters to disk volumes to help tell them apart. For example, the default letter assigned to your computer’s hard drive is probably ‘c.’ Each time you dock the iPod to a PC, Windows will assign the iPod the next available drive letter, such as ‘f’ or ‘g.’ But isn’t the letter ‘i’ the most appropriate drive letter assignment for the iPod?

Here’s a simple tutorial on how to assign the drive letter ‘i’ to an iPod connected to a PC using Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000.

Tutorial: Assign Your iPod to Microsoft Windows Drive Letter ‘i’

miFlower

August 22nd, 2006 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets

miFlower MP3 CompanionMore and more these days kids are getting MP3 players. Soon enough the two year olds will be listening to and watching their favorite shows on their 8G iPod, in high def no less.

If you’re crazy enough to get your 8 year old a new iPod, you might as well look into getting the miFlower MP3 Companion as well.

The miFlower will play your MP3 player through the built-in speaker. Don’t expect great quality, though, as far as I can tell there’s only one speaker and it’s probably pretty cheap.

Shower with Your iPod?

August 22nd, 2006 by methodshop in Gadget Reviews, Miscellaneous Gadgets, iPod gadgets

There’s no doubt the iPod has revolutionized the way we to listen music. People take their iPods everywhere. On the run, in the car, or at the gym, our iPods have gone with us to the ends of the earth… except places near water.

Until recently, a short fall or a splash of water meant certain death for an iPod, but not anymore.

Thanks to a company called OtterBox, makers of watertight storage cases for electronic equipment like PDAs, and GPS units, you can safely take your iPod near or even underwater. OtterBox has created a waterproof hard shell case they call the OtterBox for iPod.

We put all their waterproof iPod cases through several tough tests including a steamy shower and a trip to the beach.

Here’s our full series of Otterbox case reviews:

Free iTunes TV Show Page

August 21st, 2006 by methodshop in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

Want to beef up on content for your iPod Video but don’t have a lot of money?

Lately the iTunes Store (US) has been full of free videos. A common trend has been for networks to offer a series pilot for free in hopes of getting you hooked on the show. Not a bad idea - especially since it worked on me. I downloaded Spike TV’s free pilot for Blade and now have a TiVo Season pass for the show. I love checking out all the free TV show downloads in iTunes. The only problem is that finding all these free videos can be time consuming and a little challenging.

In an effort to make browsing for free video content on iTunes a little easier Apple created a Free TV Shows Downloads page (iTunes link) last week. When I was writing this blog entry there were currently 12 free TV shows offered.

But this free TV Show download page unfortunately isn’t the one stop shop it should be. For some reason free downloads for TV shows like Passions and Blade weren’t included on this “free” page. Hopefully Apple will make an all-inclusive free download page soon, but until then, this partial page will have to do.

iTheater portable video glasses

August 20th, 2006 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

iTheaterYou want a big screen TV with surround sound, but there’s just no room. That’s no problem, get yourself a pair of iTheater video glasses. Yes, I said glasses and they only weigh 3 ounces.

Essentially, the iTheater is a personal entertainment center that you wear as if they were glasses. You get great video and audio quality, too. The video is at a 230,000 pixel resolution and the audio is surround sound.

There’s really no limit as to what you can watch, either. The included RCA cables allow you to hook up your game consoles, DVD players, computers, iPod (video), or other video playing players. Imagine playing your games or watching your DVDs on a 50 inch screen.

In-wall Subwoofer

August 19th, 2006 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets

In-wall SubwooferSubwoofers are key to any home theatre. You can’t even call your entertainment setup a home theater unless it’s got a subwoofer. Some people just don’t have the room, or think they’re too big. Subwoofers do give that extra oomph which makes watching 24 oh so much better.

The RCC 600 is a very cool device, it’s a in wall subwoofer. That’s right, no free standing little tube, it’s all built into the wall. The RCC 600 utilizes state of the art technology to eliminate vibration and sound distortion. You’re not sacrificing quality, either. Your RCC 600 delivers the same sound and bass performance as a regular 12 inch subwoofer.
