ION announces Drum Rocker

September 15th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Gaming Gadgets

ION has announced its latest peripheral that targets the video game world - the Drum Rocker. This officially licensed Premium Drum Set for the Rock Band 2 video game has already started to ship to both customers and retailers, although the Xbox 360 version will be the first one out of the doors followed by releases on other gaming systems to come in the months ahead. The Drum Rocker was specially designed and developed for Rock Band 2, and good news to those who still have Rock Band - it is backwards compatible with the original Rock Band title along with Guitar Hero: World Tour, courtesy of the latter’s developers who has decided to include support for Rock Band peripherals. Great for fans who are already pretty tight with their budget, and all these extra peripherals tend to add up in the long run.

The Lightwave CS1SPK Color-Changing Speakers with Beat Recognition

September 15th, 2008 by Ally in Audio/Video Gadgets

Typically novelty speakers offer all kinds of shiny extras, but very little quality in the important parts of the gadget.  This one has the extra of flashing colored lights, which adds up to over 200 color combinations, plus it offers quality sound.  The speakers are said to have powerful enough light and sound that it will fill the room.  Turning your office or bedroom into a miniature rave, except at least with these speakers you get to pick out all of the music.

Finger Drum Mousepad

September 14th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets

Mousepads that make music aren’t exactly new, but if you have a great sense of rhythm and want to put those drumming fingers to good use during your more idle moments at the office, the Finger Drum Mousepad is right up your alley.

This mousepad has an integrated electronic drumpad that allows you to play eight different percussion sounds, including bass, snare, two rack toms, a floor tom, hi-hat, crash, and ride cymbals using only your fingers. The MP3 player input enables you to play drum solos over any song from your digital music library. A demonstration mode accompanies six preset patterns, and you can record up to 30 of your own rhythms. Separate volume and tempo controls adjust sound levels, and the headphone jack ensures discreet finger drum practice. Includes four AAA batteries.

Each purchase will cost you $39.95, and who knows? You might just come up with that next great solo that could see you exchange the dreary office life for that of a rock star’s.

iBlik iPod Internet Radio

September 13th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

iPod speaker docks as well as Internet radios are getting more and more common these days, and today we’ll look at a couple of these courtesy of iBlik.

iBliks represent the next generation of do-it-all home audio, and they really can do the lot, bar make the tea and self-destruct when Chris Moyles comes on. Totally idiot-proof, both the iBlik Wi-Fi and iBlik RadioStation are capable of accessing thousands of internet radio stations from around the world, so you can listen to pop from Paris, talk shows from Tashkent and metal from Milwaukee. And those are just our insipid alliterative examples. All you need is a Wi-Fi or wired broadband connection and the world is your lobster. Or something like that. The luxe RadioStation even receives DAB and DAB+ radio, so you can listen to snap, crackle and pop-free digital broadcasts. In fact the RadioStation is the world’s first gizmo to combine all of these functions in one box.

The iBlik Wifi and iBlik Radiostation will retail for £129.95 and £179.95, respectively. The latter is currently out of stock though, so if you have that in your radar, to pay a visit to Firebox more often.

Panasonic Life Wall TV is smart

September 12th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Electronic Gadgets

Panasonic’s thrown a pretty interesting proposition to all of you electronics lovers out there - the Life Wall TV. This 150″ monster relies on facial recognition technology to identify the current viewer, and it will subsequently switch to the user’s preferred program automatically without the need for a remote control. What happens when a group walks in, I wonder? It is also interesting to note that if one lives in a country where erotic channels are available, seeing mom’s facial expression as dad walks in through the door and into the living room, facing the TV with an adult channel taking over Junior’s cartoon would be pretty much priceless. The Life Wall TV will enter production next year.

Thanko Media Player Sunglasses

September 11th, 2008 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets

This isn’t the first time that we’ve reported on Thanko products before, nor is it the first time we’ve reported on media viewing glasses. Thanko products seem to be selling well, but media viewing glasses still aren’t.

I say this every time I review any media playing glasses, but right now, but media-viewing glasses cannot escape the geek factor. I am still looking forward to an age where these will catch on, but I’m just not certain how far in the future we need to go before everyone is wearing media playing glasses.

As for the Thanko Media Player sunglasses, they can play videos in MP4, MPG, AVI, and ASF formats. Apparently, the glasses are designed for viewing the videos at about 50-inches in comparison, at about 432 x 240.

Sony ICF-CD3iP clock radio dock

September 11th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

I just love convergence devices as they make life a whole lot easier, and Sony does not disappoint with the ICF-CD3iP iPod/iPhone clock radio dock. This model will come with a special circular side pod that can hold the Apple device all by itself, but it also doubles up as a clock, an AM/FM radio and a CD player. Front buttons make navigating through your device easily, and you can choose to use MP3 tunes from your iPod/iPhone to nudge you out of bed after a hard night of partying. Each $100 purchase will come with a remote control as the Sony ICF-CD3iP prepares itself for an October release.

The Portal inspired Weighted Companion Cube Subwoofer

September 10th, 2008 by Ally in Audio/Video Gadgets, DIY Gadgets

The game Portal has motivated modders all over to recreate the Weighted Companion Cube and make it functional within their lives.  Well the latest modder, d_stilgar, decided to create the Companion Cube and slip a subwoofer into it.  Which would make your PC all the more geek friendly.  He is also working on two speakers that will also be Portal inspired to go with the subwoofer.  Hopefully he’ll get that project finished and posted soon.
