A lot times when you’re out and about, an awesome idea or something you’ve forgotten to do for the past few days comes to mind. Most of us will think to ourselves “of course I’ll remember!” but you end up forgetting it within a few minutes. You could always jot down a note on a piece of paper, but those can just as easily be thrown away (paper is old fashioned, anyway). A digital solution is cooler than both of those, and is actually pretty practical in this case. Instead of having to carry around another device for this, you could use XtremeMac’s MicroMemo for the iPod Nano.

January 25th, 2007 by Fred in Audio/Video Gadgets, CES 2007, iPod gadgetsAt Broadclip, you can find you that MediaCatcher you should have seen at CES (I think it was post iPhone debacle
and everyone had permanently lost their heads at that point in time.)
It works like the beloved Tivo, only they have one version for the radio, and the other for the telly (we call it a TV over here, but what can you do?)
Here is their main page (for Broadclip, it links right to both Mediacatcher models)
For the real poop, just check the link here for the lowdown video goodness, you’ll be glad you did!
Neosonik wireless A/V system
January 24th, 2007 by Marc in Audio/Video Gadgets, CES 2007
Wireless speakers have been around for a while now, usually used in surround applications where long cable runs are impractical. The problem with them historically has been the sound quality – mention wireless to an audiophile and you’ll get a pretty unenthusiastic response (after all, someone who’s just spent $1000 on speaker cable isn’t going to tell you that it’s unnecessary).
Neosonik have challenged this assumption with their new wireless technology and at CES this year they were announcing a world first: an audiophile quality 5.1 wireless audio AND video system. That’s a pretty impressive claim, especially for a new and relatively unknown company.
I stopped by their demo room at the show to have a look.

Playskool develops DAPs for babies
January 23rd, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Childrens Gadgets
How many digital audio players or portable media players are there in today’s market that cater specifically to young children and pre-schoolers? Practically none when you take a closer look at all the offerings. Playskool, a company that will definitely ring a bell with generations of kids as well as some grown-ups, has finally decided to take the plunge by entering the MP3 player market for toddlers and babies. This line of digital audio players are made possible after collaborating with Creative.
Sansa Express - The Upgraded Version Of A 1G iPod Shuffle
January 22nd, 2007 by Tiago in Audio/Video Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Sansa Express is the latest mp3 player from SanDisk, the design and shape make it look like an upgraded version of a first generation iPod Shuffle, am I alone on this one?
The directional keys to play/pause/forward/rewind the music is always a hit on mp3 players because of how easy it is to work it, and the ergonomics factor must also be taken into consideration. As you can see, the previous point is one detail that a lot of manufacturer used to “copy” the iPod, but the following features are the ones that weren’t included on the 1G Shuffle, and that is why I consider the Sansa Express to be an upgraded version:
- OLED Display – unlike what happens on the shuffle in which you just press play and hope to get one good song being played, there is actually visible information about which track is being played. The display is very small and only consists of 4 lines so you must have a good quality vision to read the track info.
- MicroSD Card Slot – this is another advantage for the Sandisk player, on the current Shuffle models there is no way to expand the memory.
Prostitutes using the iPod Video to increase turnover
January 22nd, 2007 by Dan in Tech News, iPod gadgets
Apparently some Brazilian prostitutes are starting to use technology to increase the number of clients they receive. As Folha de Sao Paulo, the leading Brazilian newspaper, announced “the profession might be the oldest of the world, but the marketing being used is pretty new”!
The mentioned women work for an online site called M.Class, which recently started offering video on the MP4 format that can be played on the iPod. Rodrigo dos Santos, the owner of the site, commented that the idea emerged six months ago and it is receiving a lot of attention. Before using the M.Class services users can download the videos, upload them to the iPod and ask friends some advice regarding the product portfolio… and after the service is consumed the clients can carry the video around to brag about it, or so Rodrigo said. Mousepad blasts music wirelessly
January 22nd, 2007 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, PC Gadgets, USB Gadgets
Just when you thought that the normal looking mousepad would be a dead end piece of peripheral in terms of functionality, think again. This Wireless Speaker Mousepad does more than provide a smooth surface for your mouse to glide on, but it also ships with an integrated speaker that pumps out all your favorite tunes from virtually any audio source. This means you can now listen to your iPod, TV, digital audio player, and CD player (who uses that these days anyway?) through your mousepad, but do not be surprised if the sound quality is less than satisfactory.
Snowboarding to the Sound of Music
January 21st, 2007 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, Sport
Technology and clothing seems to be merging more and more recently, in the last week alone we’ve had the decidedly dodgy beenie headphones, the multifunctional Xip3 and the cool slide show bag.
Today it’s the turn of the 2007 Burton Audex Motorola Cargo Jacket. The jacket is aimed at snowboarders (skiers too I suppose) and as such offers the essentials that the sport demands (though the Jacket-to-Pant Interface sounds more geeky than boardy).
The gadget side of the jacket is provided by it’s integrated bluetooth system, built in speakers and iPod compatibility (the control of which can be done by the detachable panel on the sleeve (a bit like the technology by Elekson we reported on)).
The jacket costs £420 and is available from freeride-snowboards.
