You know those big Golden Tee machines they have in bars? They’re the ones that charge a few bucks for a quick 5 minutes of entertainment/gameplay. While most people get their kicks with a game or two, some really love it and don’t want to spend the money on a full blown machine but still want to play it at home. For those people, you can get the Golden Tee (trademarked, hoo hah!) television golf game. Think of it as the poor man’s version of Golden Tee.

Remote Control Light
April 30th, 2007 by Al in Audio/Video Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets
I saw this little gadget spammed posted about in our forums, the Buddy Lite, a lite for your remote control.
The concept is pretty simple, the base attaches to the bottom of your remote using Velcro and the light can then be positioned via a bendable spring like arm. So the next time you’re watching a slushy movie in the dark and need a beer top up (and you don’t own a beer launching fridge) you can pause the movie without having to blind your partner.

Cheating Differently - Schools start banning iPods on test day
April 29th, 2007 by James in iPod gadgets
You can kinda understand banning cellphones during tests because of the ability to pass notes via text message with answers. But iPods? With little statistics to go on, principals from all over the country are telling their students to leave their digital media players home on test day.
It seems that these latest high tech cheating devices for high schools students are capable of being hidden, and can contain gigabytes of test information that student can merely click, play, and write the answer to.

NuPower ViDEO+ is a good looking iPod battery pack
April 26th, 2007 by Mike in iPod gadgets
Let’s face it, the iPod video’s battery life is less than stellar. Even with the recently improved 5.5G iPod, it still leaves something to be desired. For the most part, like every day use, it’s acceptable, but on long trips or times when you’re frequently away from an outlet, you’re going to need some extra juice. There are other solutions, but I think NuPower’s ViDEO+ is the best combination of functionality and price ($50).

Don’t get robbed when buying HDMI cables
April 24th, 2007 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets
Ever walked into a Best Buy looking for an HDMI cable? I guarantee you were shocked when you saw they were at least $60 each. The most expensive one probably went for $120. You don’t have to, and shouldn’t, pay that much for an HDMI (or any type of cable really) cable, especially when there’s no real difference between those hyped up Monster cables and your generic black one. I’ll give you that the Monster ones look cooler though, but you’re not actually looking at the cable, are you?

Bill Gates Hates Apple Ads
April 24th, 2007 by methodshop in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets
Recently Bob Garfield, from AdAge, got to interview Bill Gates during the Corbis Creativity 2.0 panel in Manhattan. Garfield asked Gates about a number of topics from Vista to IPTV. He also tried to get Gates to comment on a very sensitive topic… Apple’s “Get a Mac” advertising campaign. The campaign features actor/author John Hodgman who looks like Bill Gates and personifies a PC.
As you can imagine, Bill Gates is not amused by the ads. Here’s the portion of the interview transcript where Garfield asks Gates about the ads. Enjoy:
GARFIELD: I want to ask you one more thing: Those Mac ads — how do you feel about the John Hodgman character?
GATES: I can’t comment on someone else’s ad.
GARFIELD: OK … but he’s you.
GATES: Yeah, I’m not gonna comment on someone else’s ad.
GARFIELD: OK, well, Bill Gates, thank you so much for joining us.
(Silence)
GARFIELD: Can I just have a clean goodbye?
(Silence)
GARFIELD: OK, can you just say goodbye? Thank you or goodbye or something like that?
GATES: Goodbye.
