ViewSonic isn’t exactly a brand name that is associated with high end AV equipment, but then again they have been in business for quite some time already for a very good reason - offering enough bang for your buck. The latest LCD TV from ViewSonic would be the N2201w, and this 22″ looker offers more than just high definition images in your living room - it also packs in two other functions for added value for money. Retailing for under the $500 price point, the N2201w also features an integrated DVD player (if only they threw in a Blu-ray drive instead) that is located on the side of the TV as well as PC capabilities.

September 25th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Mobile Phones
When the Nokia N95 was first unveiled to the world just last year, it took everyone by surprise, most notably due to the number of features and functions crammed into a reasonably sized handset. That smartphone has since received a refresh to feature 8GB of internal flash memory to help it keep up with other portable media players and music phones in terms of memory, but then again any device will still age with time, leading Nokia to work on its successor, the Nokia N96. The time is nigh, and the N96 which was first unveiled in front of the public earlier this year at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona will hit retail stores in the UK within a couple of weeks from now. It is rare for a handset to first hit Europe before it makes its way to North America, but then again for a handset as special as the Nokia N96, I suppose allowances can be made for its launch to be the exception rather than the norm.

September 25th, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, PC Gadgets
Sony has just released its third generation internal Blu-ray disc writer for the masses without costing too much, ensuring you get to make an affordable upgrade for a cost-effective backup solution. This new model is known as the BWU-300S, and unless you have tons of data to burn and make backup copies at home or at the office, I still think regular DVDs will suffice. After all, not every home has a Blu-ray player at this point in time, but sure as heck nearly every home with a computer is able to read DVDs, right? More on the Sony BWU-300S right after the jump.

AmpLamp blasts sound from the light
September 23rd, 2008 by Mark R in Audio/Video Gadgets
I’ve noticed a trend in making devices that serve dual purposes. For example, iPod docks that act as alarm clocks, cell phones that act as MP3 players, and so on. I’ve even seen stereo speakers that can act as picture frames. So why not take an ordinary lamp and make it into a stereo speaker?
This is the concept design of the AmpLamp, which has speakers hidden in the lamp shade, as well as a subwoofer in the base. The AmpLamp uses NXT technology that can turn any flat surface into a speaker.
In addition to this technology, the AmpLamp also uses Airsound tech with small side-firing speakers. All these combine for a lot of sound for 80 watts of power, which could be more than the wattage of the bulb.
Motorola unveils new Bluetooth headsets
September 22nd, 2008 by Edwin in Audio/Video Gadgets, Mobile Phones
Motorola is back this time round not with new cell phones, but Bluetooth headsets instead. These two new universal Bluetooth headsets are touted to offer great performance where background noise cancellation is concerned, with the Motopure H15 leading the way while the H780 follows in close pursuit. The Motopure H15 Universal Bluetooth Headset comes with a special flip design that touts to offer the best background noise cancellation according to independent testing of the top-selling dual-microphone Bluetooth headsets. As for the Motorola H780 Universal Bluetooth Headset, this model merges both style and distinct audio sound in a single device. Both headsets will feature Motorola’s CrystalTalk technology that enables users to silence the noise for clearer communications.
The Nomad Traveler Speaker
September 21st, 2008 by Ally in Audio/Video Gadgets
Retro gadgets are always creating new twists and quirks in newer technology. The latest design is this Nomad Traveler Speaker. Which is made to look like an old radio. It is actually inspired by vintage luggage and based on a design from the 1930s. Although it is a larger design, it is supposed to be lightweight. It also has the handle on top so you can wander into public with it hooked up to your iPod. Although, I’d imagine it’d look best sitting in your home. The speaker features SRS resonance enhancement and is said to offer a rich sound.
