Fancy a Bevy, the Beer Opening iPod Case

by Al

iPod Bevy

I don’t normally see the point of buying a tiny iPod and then sticking it in a massive case, but the bevy is different, not only does it protect your iPod Shuffle it can also open bottles of beer.

Have you got an iPod Shuffle? Do you drink beer? Do you use keys? If the answer is yes to all three, then you need the Bevy. This ingenious sliver of sturdy plastic and bottle top-biting metal functions as an iPod Shuffle case, a bottle opener and a keyring. Talk about multi-tasking!

You can have a Bevy for £9.95 (~$20) from Firebox.

Apple iRipoff? How cheap the new iPod nano costs to build

by Andi

iRipoff

“Oh well, here’s another article from that Apple hater”, many of you will say. Well, this is not necessarily a hate article… It’s more of an eye opener if you wish.

As I was happily surfing around the ‘Net, I found the bill of materials for the new iPod nanos, and my jaw dropped a bit. I did know that prices keep on tumbling down, but I did not know that they’re almost freefalling. I also didn’t know that a ClickWheel was so cheap to make.

What struck me then is that Apple has possibly already covered the R&D costs and has started reaping some big big profits from the nanos alone. If the costs aren’t covered, then they’ll be in a matter of days.

I know you’re curious already.. read on for the run-down.

Oh, and excuse me for the geeky picture.. I just couldn’t help it :)

iPod Touch Review

by Mike

ipod-touch.jpg
For the unknowing, Apple started shipping its new iPod Touch late last week. This is the new iPod that’s essentially the iPhone sans the phone; prices start at $300 for 8GB and go up to $400 for 16GB. While they’re usually sold out as quickly as they come in, I managed to grab one and made a nice little review, at least I hope it’s nice. I’ll be covering the design and structure of the device itself, the UI and applications, music playback, video playback, and the iTunes WiFi store (I know it’s an application, but it’s special!).

It’s not an iPod, it’s better. The new SanDisk Sansa View

by Andi

sansa-titleMy little rant came as a reason for wrath and vengeance from Apple fans. So, I’ve thought that bringing up some good alternatives wouldn’t be a bad idea at all..

SanDisk, for those who don’t know it, is a big memory manufacturer, which also makes various portable media players. I’ve been using memory cards made by them for a while now. My USB flash stick is also made by them, and overall I’m very happy with their product quality.

To explain the title, this device is a worthy competitor of the new Nano. It has a bigger screen, longer battery life, more memory, a fair price, and, in my opinion, better looks.

Read on for the details.

Belkin does its bit in fight against cancer

by Edwin

belkin-susangkomen.jpgCancer is a scourge that knows no boundaries, and it does not discriminate against race, religion, creed, the rich, and the poor. It makes no distinction among men and women, and is one deadly disease that is often diagnosed with dread. For the ladies, breast cancer is definitely one of the major killers worldwide, and over the years plenty of charities have been set up to bring hope and care to breast cancer patients all over the world. The Susan G. Komen for the Cure is one of such non-profit networks where breast cancer survivors and activists rally around victims to give them hope, and Belkin is doing its part to support the foundation with a new range of “Hope” iPod cases that come in pink.

iTunes tagging come to HD Radio

by Edwin

itunes.jpgTags are pretty big when it comes to finding and sorting information, what more digital songs when you have a huge collection in your home and want quick access to a particular tune within the minimal time possible. For those who tune in to HD Radio devices instead, they will soon be beneficiaries of the “tag” feature, enabling them to KIV songs heard on the radio for later purchase via iTunes. Of course, this advancement is available only to selected HD Radio devices from JBL and Polk Audio, so judging by the names alone, you can be sure that neither device will come cheap.

Apple slashes iPhone cost, intro’s iPod Touch

by James

Touch me

All those iPhone fans who spent hours, perhaps days in line to lay out $600 for an iPhone look pretty silly today. That’s because Cupertino lowered the price of both it’s 8GB and 4GB iPhones by $200. So, the whole smash will go for $399, while the 4GB model goes for $299. And the word is that the 4GB phone is already being blown out and discontinued!

It’s downright ironic how much difference a few months make to the patient and how silly those with credit cards burning a hole in their wallets look today.

UPDATE – STEVE JOBS HAS HEARD THE MASSES! According to an open letter from Apple, users who bought an iPhone before the price cut and who are not getting a rebate can receive a $100 credit to the Apple Store.

As expected, Apple announced the iPod Touch – the 6th Generation iPod with a complete touch screen interface (we should’ve had it a year ago), a the same sharp 3.5-inch widescreen display, and a cool ability to download music from Starbucks! No kidding. You’re slogging on some Joe and you hear a great indy label riff. You click on Wi-Fi iTunes and download it right there.
