Free iTunes TV Show Page

August 21st, 2006 by methodshop in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets
Coolest Gadgets

Want to beef up on content for your iPod Video but don’t have a lot of money?

Lately the iTunes Store (US) has been full of free videos. A common trend has been for networks to offer a series pilot for free in hopes of getting you hooked on the show. Not a bad idea - especially since it worked on me. I downloaded Spike TV’s free pilot for Blade and now have a TiVo Season pass for the show. I love checking out all the free TV show downloads in iTunes. The only problem is that finding all these free videos can be time consuming and a little challenging.

In an effort to make browsing for free video content on iTunes a little easier Apple created a Free TV Shows Downloads page (iTunes link) last week. When I was writing this blog entry there were currently 12 free TV shows offered.

But this free TV Show download page unfortunately isn’t the one stop shop it should be. For some reason free downloads for TV shows like Passions and Blade weren’t included on this “free” page. Hopefully Apple will make an all-inclusive free download page soon, but until then, this partial page will have to do.

iTheater portable video glasses

August 20th, 2006 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

iTheaterYou want a big screen TV with surround sound, but there’s just no room. That’s no problem, get yourself a pair of iTheater video glasses. Yes, I said glasses and they only weigh 3 ounces.

Essentially, the iTheater is a personal entertainment center that you wear as if they were glasses. You get great video and audio quality, too. The video is at a 230,000 pixel resolution and the audio is surround sound.

There’s really no limit as to what you can watch, either. The included RCA cables allow you to hook up your game consoles, DVD players, computers, iPod (video), or other video playing players. Imagine playing your games or watching your DVDs on a 50 inch screen.

What if Microsoft Designed the iPod?

August 18th, 2006 by methodshop in Tech News, iPod gadgets
Coolest Gadgets

Apple definitely has a successful formula when it comes to their elegant product design and marketing. Simple. Uncluttered. Clean… and very un-Microsoft. But what if Microsoft designed the iPod? What would the packaging look like? This video parody explores those possibilities.

What makes this video even more funny is that it was created by Microsoft. Microsoft spokesman Tom Pilla sent an email to iPod Observer saying that his company initiated the creation of the parody video.

“It was an internal-only video clip commissioned by our packaging [team] to humorously highlight the challenges we have faced RE: packaging and to educate marketers here about the pitfalls of packaging/branding… While MS did not release the video, it’s natural to share funny things with friends. So while we didn’t publicly share the video, it was shared with appropriate teams internally. We’re happy to see others enjoy the laugh as well.”

The music in the background might sound familiar. It’s the song “The Breakfast Machine” from the movie Pee Wee’s Big Adventure.

Belkin iPod Battery Pack

August 15th, 2006 by Mike in iPod gadgets

Nearly everyone has an iPod, and nearly everyone who has it loves it. I know I do. One negative I’ve found is its battery life. It’s poor to say the least.
Belkin iPod Battery Pack
Belkin’s iPod Battery Pack is able to power the 5G (video), 4G, 3G, and Photo iPods for an extra 15 hours of music, or 6 hours of video on the 5G. That, plus the iPod’s battery should be able to get you through those intercontinental plane trips, marathons, hikes, anything really.

The Battery Pack is powered by 4 double A batteries, and connects to the iPod via its dock connector. The battery pack does add some weight to the iPod, but it’s not too cumbersome because the pack is held onto the iPod by suction cups.

iSplash

August 14th, 2006 by Mike in Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

Carrying around your iPod without a case in your pocket is likely to cause some damage, taking it places like the beach, with all that sand and water, is iPod suicide.

iSplash

Fortunately there is the iSplash, a water and weather resistant boom box for your iPod. It also works with any other MP3 player/CD player with a mini headphone jack.

Waterproof Gadget Bags

August 14th, 2006 by Al in Home Gadgets, Mobile Phones, Tech News, iPod gadgets

Gadget Waterproof Bags
If you’ve always wanted to be able to play your PSP in the bath but were slightly nervous to do so a solution is at hand, zip lock gadget bags.

The zip lock bags (AKA Aquatalk) come in a variety of sizes to suit many every day gadgets, like PSPs, Nintendo DS flip-top mobile phones etc. As my knowledge of Japanese is on par with my knowledge of quantum physics, I’m not sure if they’re fully waterproof or just splash proof but either way I think I’d still be a bit hesitant to have a bath with a) an electric device and b) a couple of hundred pounds worth of gadget.

More info over at Rakuten, found via Ounae, thanks.

The iFlip

July 29th, 2006 by Liam in Audio/Video Gadgets, Miscellaneous Gadgets, iPod gadgets

The iFlip
Finally there’s an easy way to get your iPod’s videos onto a screen large enough for you to actually bother watching while still keeping it portable. The iFlip looks like a portable DVD player, however it easily docks an iPod right into the front of it so you can play your videos on a screen large enough to share with others.

It features an 8.4-inch LCD display and offers a native resolution of 480 x 234. It also has speakers in it so you don’t have to try to share ear-buds. If you do want to listen with headphones, however, there are 2 headphone jacks as well as S-video out and line-out jacks.

The iBrella

July 29th, 2006 by Liam in Audio/Video Gadgets, Wacky Gadgets, iPod gadgets

The iBrella
Here’s an interesting idea for a gadget. If you want a really weird way to control your iPod and don’t mind carrying an umbrella around, the iBrella could be for you.

The strangest thing about this gadget is that it’s not what you’d expect. Contrary to having buttons on the handle, you actually control the iPod by motions with the umbrella.
