The AViiQ Smart Case for the iPad 2

by Mark R

Many iPad 2 owners have one of those cool and often colorful Smart Covers that serve as both magnetic screen protector and stand. However, what about the back of the iPad 2? Fortunately, the AViiQ Smart Case for the iPad 2 has the iPad 2′s back.

Similar to the Back-iT from Bracketron, the Smart Case is made of rugged plastic encased in a solid aluminum plate “anodized to match the colors of the Apple Smart Cover”.

It is designed to last by minimizing stretches and fading, and it snaps nicely into place. The hard plastic case comes with a smooth finish to protect the iPad from any shock and impact from side bumps like the wall, for example. That, and some accidental droppings.

Verbatim’s Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard for iDevices

by Mark R

This Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard from Verbatim is a lot like the one from Kensington that I reviewed the other day.

This one is made specifically for iDevices running iOS 4.0 or higher, and it is a heck of a lot more compact. The whole thing folds up to a size that is a little bigger than the palm of your hand, and it has this iPhone Stand that can unfold from the device and snap right back in.

The enhanced Bluetooth ability allows users to join up six devices at once, and the keyboard itself has some great hotkeys available. For example, it has a media console with play, pause, and other ways to control iTunes. Other useful keys include cut, copy, and paste.

RIP Steve Jobs

by Edwin

There are moments in life when words fail us, and today is one of those moments. Tim Cook, Apple CEO sums it up nicely for many of us in his email below.

Team,

I have some very sad news to share with all of you. Steve passed away earlier today.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

We are planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life for Apple employees that will take place soon. If you would like to share your thoughts, memories and condolences in the interim, you can simply email [email protected]

No words can adequately express our sadness at Steve’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him. We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much.

Tim

iPod nano gets revamped

by Edwin

Out of the entire iPod range, the iPod classic and iPod shuffle seem to be the most likely candidates to be discontinued, but there was no such announcement made when the iPhone 4S was announced earlier yesterday morning. Well, at least one member of the iPod family received an upgrade, which is the iPod nano. Of course, the iPod touch has gotten more affordable, but we will get to that at the end of the article.

The iPod nano will now feature larger icons that makes it even easier to use, thanks to the intuitive Multi-Touch user interface. Frankly, with a screen size that small, I don’t think there really is a need to have so many fingers dance all over the screen at once, but if it were to make life easier, why not? There is also a choice of 16 new digital clock faces to choose from to keep even the most fussy person happy, ranging from the classic analog all the way to Disney characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Apple iPhone 4S launched

by Edwin

October 4th came and went – and with that, the world will have another iPhone to play around with, this time being the iPhone 4S which frankly, is quite a disappointment compared to all the hype that was present before. Many people were wondering whether it would be the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 that would be announced, or is it both? I guess all that let-down was reflected in a drop in Apple’s stock price after the iPhone 4S announcement yesterday.

Touted to be the “most amazing iPhone yet” (they say that all the time), it is safe to say that all the improvements made to the iPhone 4S are internal and not external – it will, after all, run on Apple’s dual-core A5 processor that is also found in the iPad 2, where it is said to be able to offer double the processing power of its predecessor, not to mention delivering up to 7 times faster graphics compared to the iPhone 4. Seems like portable gaming has gotten even better, and we could soon see games that will run only on the iPhone 4S as the other handsets are way too slow to handle such graphical performance. Head on after the jump to read about the rest of the iPhone 4S.

G-Form Extreme Sleeve for the iPad

by Mark R

We have reported on G-Form’s products before with the Extreme Portfolio and Extreme Edge. I recently got a chance to try out the Extreme Sleeve.

The first thing I have to tell you about the Extreme Sleeve is that it is soft. I know that it looks like hard plastic in the image to the left, but it actually is G-Form’s Reactive Protection Technology (RPT) which is a composite blend of PORON XRD material and other trade secrets. The end result is a substance that feels like a sponge without holes, and it “changes its molecular structure on impact”.

If you watch the video after the jump, you can see a twelve-pound bowling ball get dropped on an Extreme Sleeved iPad. You can also see how a hard-shell case stands with the same impact. You can probably guess how it ends.

Wahoo Fitness Bike Pack is ANT+ compatible

by Mark R

If you thought that the All-Weather Soft Case Bike Mount from Bracketron was something to sing about, you will be crazy about the Wahoo Fitness Bike Pack.

The Bike Pack has an integrated bike mount that allows you to use your iDevice touchscreen, which makes it both shock and water resistant. It also has a built-in ANT + radio transceiver which can support ANT + heart rate, speed, cadence, and power sensor. In fact, it even comes with a Premium Speed and Cadence Bike Sensor made just for it.

Bracketron Back-iT for the iPad 2

by Mark R

By now, I am certain that you are all aware of the iPad 2, and how the user can purchase the flexible, fold-able Smart Cover to protect the front. However, what about the back of the precious iPad 2?

This is probably the mentality that led Bracketron to develop the Back-iT. It is a “low-profile, precision-cut polycarbonate back that securely holds and protects your iPad 2 from scratches and scuffs”. It comes in the same colors of the previously mentioned Smart Covers, which are all pastel and include a “soft-touch design for superior grip for interacting and carrying your iPad 2″.

Yes, I used a lot of quotes here, but let me give you one of my own: “If you use the Back-iT with a Smart Cover on your iPad 2, it will be a beautiful bright color on either side. It is truly up to you if you want to make them match.”
