Apple’s Time Capsule begins to ship

February 29th, 2008 by Edwin in Apple News

apple-time-capsule.jpgLooks like Apple has started to ship its Time Capsule – the newest external hard drive from Cupertino which is just about the only solution available for those who want to perform wireless Time Machine backups from your notebook. The Time Capsule debuted at Macworld, being an 802.11n Wifi base station that was equipped with a choice of 500GB or 1TB hard drive, enabling you to back up files to the drive or share files across a network without having to hook up to a cable. The 500GB and 1TB model will retail for $299 and $499, respectively. Sounds pretty interesting? There’s more after the jump.

February 26th, 2008 by Carolyn in Apple News

Earlier today, the Apple Store was offline worldwide. Typically, this means new products or updated ones. Today was no exception.

The MacBook received an upgrade today featuring “[T]he latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, larger hard drives, and up to 2GB of memory standard. Best of all, MacBook still starts at $1099. It’s the same does-everything-you-want notebook but better.” The new MacBook comes in three models (all featuring the 13-inch glossy widescreen display) and includes faster processors and larger hard drives across the board. All Mac notebooks include a built-in iSight camera, Apple’s MagSafe Power Adapter that safely disconnects when under strain and built-in 802.11n wireless networking. 2GB iPod Shuffles Now In Stock

February 26th, 2008 by Carolyn in Apple News, Audio/Video Gadgets, iPod gadgets

Back on February 19th, I wrote about the announcement from Apple that they dropped the price of the iPod Shuffle and were adding a 2GB model to be released “soon” – well today is that day.

shuffle2.jpg

Apple.com was down for a bit this morning releasing a whole new slew of products, including the 2GB iPod Shuffle. The new new 2GB model of the iPod shuffle can be picked up for $69.

The popular iPod shuffle is just half a cubic inch in volume, weighs just half an ounce, features an aluminum design with a built-in clip and comes in five colors—silver, blue, green, purple and a (PRODUCT) RED special edition.

If you’re looking for something that just plays music but found the 1GB model just wasn’t big enough – you really should pick up the 2GB model. I may have to get one for myself!

Apple Kills Xserve RAID, Introduces VTrak and Xsan 2

February 20th, 2008 by Carolyn in Apple News, Electronic Gadgets

In a surprising move, Apple has eliminated the Xserve RAID from their product line. On their website, the Xserve RAID page has disappeared and now takes you to a new page where they offer the Promise VTrak E-Class RAID in its place. From the new Apple webpage:
appleraid.jpg

The Promise VTrak E-Class RAID Subsystem delivers outstanding performance, reliability, and expansion for video and server applications. Configure up to sixteen 750GB 7200-rpm SATA or 300GB 15,000-rpm SAS drives in a 3U rack-optimized enclosure for up to 12TB of raw capacity on one or more RAID sets. Promise RAID is an ideal storage solution for direct-attached or SAN-based server and workstation applications, qualified for use with Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server, Final Cut Studio 2, and Xsan 2.

Although reports say that Apple is still going to be selling the Xserve RAID “while supplies last”, it seems that either their supplies are already gone or that they’re not selling them to the general public anymore.

Working hand in hand with this new RAID hardware, Apple’s latest press release mentions the upgrade of it’s Storage Area Network file system manager. The press release after the cut:
