While iPhone users might be a cut above the rest of the tech community due to their ability to fork out insane amounts of dough at the initial release (remember last June’s iPhone that went for $599?), they certainly are human as we are, requiring sustenance to keep on going. Being hungry is a universal feeling that everyone experiences at some point in time, but iPhone users have the advantage of sniffing down some of the best eats in town thanks to the TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor has recently announced a version of its Local Picks restaurant finder at Apple’s recently opened App Store, and it will be available for free. The Local Picks application will take advantage of the iPhone’s location-based capabilities so that folks can track down the best restaurants rated by locals, enabling one to throw a so-called (biased) “guidebook” out of the window.

It’s not “officially” here just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get it. And a day early no less. While digging through the Apple XML files just like any other true Apple fan with some extra time on their hands, MacRumors has dredged up the URL location for the iPhone 2.0 firmware upgrade. The download comes in the form of a .ipsw file, which you can install on your phone by holding down the “Option” key (shift on PCs) and clicking the “Check For Update” button on the iTunes iPhone menu.

Along with the new firmware comes the really big news of the day. The emergence of the Apple App Store, which has also proven to be live. I had a chance to dabble around with some of the apps, and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait.

Canadians have something to be truly pissed about. Finally, the iPhone 3G is about to set foot in North America, and Canadian wireless provider Rogers has to lay down some of the worse price plans you could possibly expect, even compared to Canadian wireless standards.

To start, there is absolutely no unlimited plan to speak of. The highest data allowance tops off at 2GB and only 300 sent text messages, which for most people is way more data than they’ll ever use in the first place, but even so, for $115 a month, you shouldn’t be setting any limits on anyone. Apple has had it with Rogers and they’re making it very clear. Sources say that they have officially pulled the iPhone off the Rogers sale racks, even before its launch on the 11th.

Did you know the first public signs of the iPhone were way back in 1999, when Apple registered iPhone.org. Silver from iPhoneGold has put together a great timeline showing the history of the legendary iPhone, including domain registrations, trademarks. the famous 3% stock drop all the way up to the new iPhone 3G. July 11th is approaching quick! And you know what that means. The launch of the new iPhone 3G. Despite the Stevenote at WWDC and various minuscule bits of trivia, much of the details for the 3G Apple phone were still sort of hazy. Today marks a brand new cacophony of fresh information for us iPhone fans.

Apple has released a video guide for their new iPhone and AT&T has rolled out their FAQ page, for everything you need to know about the iPhone 3G before you go out and scoop one up for yourself. One of the coolest things revealed today was the UI and the download process for the upcoming App Store, which will be released with the iPhone 2.0 firmware.

After years of ignoring the existence of Apple’s Mac OS X, Logitech has finally given in to the demand. Assuming there is a demand there. Sure, modern Macs come with embedded webcams built right into the system, but you have to figure there are plenty of people who want a more feature rich alternative than the good old Photo Booth.
