With the world going nuts about going green these days, it goes without saying that you ain’t in without being green. After all, we are responsible for handing over a sustainable earth to the next generation, and like an old saying goes, we don’t hand over the earth to our kids – instead, we borrow it from them. That ought to put things into perspective in the long run, and it is nice to know that companies have stepped up the effort of going green by being way more serious than they used to be. Vers is one such company, further expanding its line of sustainably built, hand-crafted wood cases for iPod and iPhone while offering open-front Shellcases that enable full display access. Each Vers case will merge the natural beauty and strength of Walnut, Cherry and Bamboo, making them the most environmentally thoughtful cases available on the market.

According to David Laituri, designer and co-founder of Vers, “The new Shellcase offers a wood case solution to those who prefer to have their iPod touch or iPhone fully protected AND 100% accessible. We’re big believers in hand-crafted wood; it has a wonderful look and feel – each one is unique. It’s surprisingly tough as well, particularly Bamboo, tougher than plastic. It looks great, offers superior protection and is the most renewable resource on the planet.”

Similar to the Vers 2X and Vers 1.5R, these new Vers cases were specially designed with the same passion for sustainability, where each tree that is used in Vers case production will be replanted by another 100 trees via Vers’ partnership with The Arbor Day Foundation and the U.S. Forestry Service in an effort to re-forest parklands damaged by fire and other natural disasters. This is clearly going miles ahead of the competition, allowing you to purchase each case without feeling guilty but by being able to sleep well instead, knowing you have done your part in helping plant a whole horde of trees in the process. You will have to fork out $39.99 for Vers wood cases for iPhone, iPod touch and iPod classic, while the iPod nano case is going for $39.99. As mentioned earlier, they will come in Cherry, Walnut and Bamboo varieties.

Ubergizmo has a story about 27″ iMacs which are experiencing buggy hardware issues such as “erratic hard drive behavior,” buggy playback of flash video which cause the CPU to reach 105% of it’s capacity, and issues pertaining to bad operating system installation. Now I know that flash is a memory hog, but that’s ridiculous.

Stories began cropping up in Apple’s support forums where users have discovered that the issues begin to occur once the computer goes to sleep and then begins to wake up. Some have used workarounds like hitting the power button to sleep and then waking it up again. This apparently “calms” the CPU down and frees up resources.

But a better solution is to contact Apple immediately while users Apple Care warranty is still in force. Or return the iMac to the Apple Store for genius’ to either fix or replace.

Hat Tip – Ubergizmo

After having announced a slew of hardware updates in the last week, the company with the plan, Apple, has moved on to software updates by introducing the new Apple TV 3.0 software that aims to up the ante in the battle for your attention in living rooms throughout America (and the world, although Apple might not claim that officially). The Apple TV 3.0 software will come with a redesigned main menu that enables easier navigation of your favorite content in a faster and more simple manner, enabling you to enjoy the largest selection of on-demand HD movie rentals and purchases, HD TV shows, music and podcasts straight from the iTunes Store in an even better manner on your TV.

Apart from that, users will realize that they can now enjoy iTunes Extras and iTunes LP in stunning fullscreen display with your Apple TV, alongside tuning in to Genius Mixes and Internet radio via their carefully assembled home theater system. Good things in life don’t often come free, but you’ll be pleased as punch to note that the new Apple TV software is available immediately as a free download for existing Apple TV owners. Those who want to experience it for the first time without forking out a single penny, it will be bundled with the 160GB capacity Apple TV for just $229.

Bear in mind that Apple TV will require an 802.11b/g/n wireless network or 10/100 Base-T Ethernet networking in order for you to get going decently, accompanied by a broadband Internet connection and a high definition widescreen TV for best results. Depending on the country you reside in, certain videos might not be made available. Connectivity-wise, Apple TV is pretty fuss-free as it comes standard with HDMI, component video, analog and optical audio ports. The use of high-speed Wi-Fi enables the Apple TV to automatically play your iTunes content without any prior setup or management.

Apple has not forgotten about the Mac mini during its current slew of updates, folks, where the world’s most energy efficient desktop now comes with a faster processor while offering ample storage space alongside double the amount of memory. Prices start from $599 upwards, where the entry-level Mac mini will boast a faster Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz processor alongside 2GB RAM, a 160GB hard drive, five USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800 connectivity and the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics solution. Those who are feeling a little bit more flush can always fork out $999 for the souped up Mac mini that was specially configured to run the Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server, where it will be accompanied by 1TB of server storage despite coming with a tiny 6.5″ x 2″ enclosure that is common to all Mac minis.

Apple more or less refresh their hardware design around once a year, and they normally do so with their line of iPods and Macs getting most of the attention and love. This time round is no different, where the extremely popular MacBook line has just been updated to feature a new, durable polycarbonate unibody design that bosats a brilliant LED-backlit display that looks stunning even under extremely bright light, a glass Multi-Touch trackpad as well as Apple’s innovative built-in battery which is touted to offer up to seven hours of battery life. This would definitely increase the market value of MacBooks by taking technology and design cues from the higher end MacBook Pro line, despite it being the ideal consumer notebook for students and new Mac users.

The use of a unibody, polycarbonate enclosure results in it being much more lighter and durable, and a special non-skid bottom surface lets you work wherever you are. Tipping the scales at a mere 4.7 pounds, the new MacBook is a snap to tote around. As for its innovative built-in notebook battery, it supposedly lasts up to 1,000 recharges, resulting in fewer depleted batteries and less waste. That’s approximately 3 years of charging for each day of use, which by that time most people would have moved on to another notebook. Should your battery deplete faster due to extreme use, fret not as you can always pick up replacements that are going for $129 each inclusive of installation and environmentally responsible disposal of your old battery.

Features of the new basic MacBook are as follows :-

13.3″ widescreen LED-backlit 1280 x 800 glossy display

2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3MB shared L2 cache

1066 MHz front-side bus

2GB 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM

NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics

250GB serial ATA hard drive running at 5400 rpm

Slot-load 8X SuperDrive with double-layer support (DVD+/-R DL/DVD+/-RW/CD-RW)

Mini DisplayPort

Built-in AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking

Bluetooth 2.1+EDR

Gigabit Ethernet port

Built-in iSight video camera

Two USB 2.0 ports

One audio line in/out port

Glass Multi-Touch trackpad

Built-in, 60WHr lithium polymer battery

60 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter

Of course, depending on the configuration of your choice, the price will move from the $999 price point to a much higher level.

Apple has not forgotten about those who love their iMac line by updating this range with a couple of new models that will boast a brilliant LED-backlit 21.5″ and 27″ widescreen displays. Apart from that, you can be sure that they will be extremely beautiful machines to look at, thanks to a new edge-to-edge glass design and seamless all aluminum enclosure. All new iMacs will ship with a wireless keyboard alongside the recently unveiled wireless Magic Mouse that holds the title of being the first mouse with Multi-Touch technology in the world, giving you a somewhat similar user experience that can be found on other multi-touch products by Apple including the iPhone, iPod touch and Mac notebook trackpad.

As mentioned earlier, the new iMac will come with stunning LED-backlit displays that are suited for movie buffs as it has a 16:9 aspect ratio that makes it perfect for watching high definition movies and TV shows directly from iTunes, while editing and watching your own videos or photos via iLife is also a cinch. As for the 21.5″ model, it will have a maximum resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels while the much larger 27″ machine will come with a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution. Both models are tipped to rely on IPS technology to deliver consistent color across an ultra wide 178 degree viewing angle.

In terms of graphical performance, the new iMacs don’t disappoint as they boast NVIDIA’s GeForce 9400M integrated graphics solution or the ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics in the 21.5″ model. If you feel that neither are suitable for you, there is always the option to pick up the 27″ model that comes with ATI Radeon HD 4670 discrete graphics or ATI Radeon HD 4850 discrete graphics. You can have up to 16GB of RAM from the standard 4GB it ships with if performance is of utmost importance to you, while other features include a built-in iSight video camera, mic and stereo speakers, AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire 800 port and an integrated SD memory card slot.

Is it us, or does everything and anything Apple touches become gold? Take their mouse for instance – the Mighty Mouse doesn’t really have anything worth writing home about and it sucks as a gaming peripheral, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t functional. This time round, the Mighty Mouse has been usurped by the new Apple Magic Mouse which is powered by pixie dust. I jest – the Magic Mouse will be the first mouse in the world that boasts Apple’s revolutionary Multi-Touch technology which has already seen action on the iPhone, iPod touch and Mac notebook trackpads to date. With a mouse that boasts Multi-Touch capability, customers are able to navigate using intuitive finger gestures in place of mechanical buttons and scroll wheels while eliminating the need for scroll balls as well. Just for your information, the entire top surface of the Magic Mouse is a seamless Multi-Touch area.

If you are lusting after the Apple Magic Mouse, you will be pleased to know that it comes standard with the new iMac, although you can also purchase it as a standalone Mac accessory for $69. You will be able to use it as a single or multi-button mouse with advanced gesture support thanks to intuitive gestures that would come by as natural for right handed users as well as southpaws. The Apple Magic Mouse will also rely on its laser tracking engine that results in a clean, cable-free desktop. It works great as long as it doesn’t go beyond the 10 meter range that all Bluetooth devices must adhere to, of course. As with any wireless device, battery life could be a potential issue but it is nice to know that Apple has included an advanced power management system which works great with Mac OS X
that will switch to low power modes automatically whenever it detects periods of inactivity.

The Apple Magic Mouse will be powered by a couple of AA batteries and ought to hit the market by the end of this month via a variety of channels including Apple retail stores, the Apple Store and authorized resellers.

So you’re extremely happy with your new iPhone 3GS, and are actively searching for means and ways to enhance your iPhone experience regardless of where you are. Newton Peripherals could have the answer, where they will lend their expertise in integrated mobile peripherals to come up with the new MoGo Talk for the iPhone. Just in case you were wondering what a contraption known as MoGo Talk for iPhone is, this is touted to be the first ultra-thin integrated Bluetooth headset in the world, measuring no thicker than 5mm while being stored on the back of your iPhone. In addition, it will also have its batteries charged up in the process, giving users the convenience of a charged headset at all times. This has led me to think though, won’t charging the MoGo Talk sip even more juice from your iPhone’s battery, which leaves you with less battery than before to carry out conversations? Well, at least we do know the MoGo Talk’s minimalist design will allow one to fold the headset flat easily, snapping it in and out of its protective case in a jiffy.

It isn’t all flash with the MoGo Talk for iPhone as it will feature a potent combination of patent pending SoundShape noise blocking, comfort fit ear tips, high fidelity balanced armature audio drivers and rich SmartAudio processing to provide you with the best audio quality possible whenever you’re holding a conversation. When combined, these elements will do away with previous nuinsances such as noise, echo and wind interference. The MoGo Talk’s patent pending folding boom also makes sure the headset can be folded flat to a mere 5mm low-profile for easy and convenient storage – just don’t forget you’ve placed it in your wallet and sit on it accidentally.

You will get up to 4 hours of active noise compensation talktime with this, where it can standby for up to a week. Expect MoGo Talk for iPhone to retail for $129.99 when available.

First of all, they discovered that this latest device has a Broadcom BCM4329FKUBG wireless chip in its chassis, making it very possible for the iPod touch to function on 802.11n wireless networks without missing a beat. In addition, it also comes with a a Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and a FM receiver and transmitter, alongside some space for a camera in the same vein as an iPod nano. Talk about leaving room for the future, eh? While you can’t take advantage of 802.11n support at the moment, hopefully future Apple updates will fix that.

Just to keep up with the current bleak times, Apple understands that you need to stretch your wallet even further, and hence has slashed the price of its iPod shuffle to just $49 for its new 2GB model, while the 4GB model will retail for $79 a pop. Available in five brilliant colors – silver, black, pink, blue and green, the iPod shuffle won’t sport anything new, still maintaining its intuitive controls that are conveniently located on the headphone cord alongside the VoiceOver feature that allows your shuffle to speak out song titles, artists and playlist names, making the still-missing display a non-issue.

Just like the new generation of iPod nano was announced earlier this morning, so do we have news of a new iPod touch as well, pushing the device into the third generation. One thing that would disappoint most people about this would be the lack of a built-in digital camera after being hyped up about it through various rumors and fan sites over the past weeks and months, but guess there is always the anticipation of seeing said integrated digital camera make an appearance sometime in the future with the fourth iteration of the iPod touch. What’s cooking with this generation of iPod touch? We’ll take a closer look at it right after the jump.

According to Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, “At just $199 the iPod touch is the most affordable gateway to Apple’s revolutionary App Store with more than 75,000 applications that you can wirelessly download right into your iPod touch. You get a great iPod, a great pocket computer with the industry’s best mobile web browser and a great game player, all in this super-thin beautiful enclosure.”

Yes, that’s right – prices for the new iPod touch will start from $199 upwards for the 8GB model, where those who feel that they need more space can always fork out slightly more for the 32GB and 64GB models that will retail for $299 and $399, respectively. Too bad for those who just picked up an iPod touch yesterday, getting half the capacity at the same price – good things always come to those who wait, eh? In this case, it pays to be well informed ahead of time, especially with companies like Apple who announce upcoming events ahead of time so that you can stop your purchase before a particular date if it isn’t too much of a rush.

So the yearly cycle continues, with yet another iPod being updated this time round. Apple’s event at San Francisco saw the appearance of Steve Jobs to the masses, and it goes without saying the man had a hand in unveiling the latest iPod nano to the crowds, now in its fifth iteration. What makes the iPod nano so special this time round? Well, Apple has decided to throw in a video camera, a microphone and a speaker to what is already deemed as the most popular portable media player in the world, allowing music aficionados to shoot short video clips (limited by its memory, of course) regardless of where they are. These video clips can then be viewed over the computer after performing a quick and painless transfer, and further uploaded onto YouTube if you’re so inclined.

According to Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, “iPod nano is the world’s most popular music player with over 100 million sold. And now we’ve added a video camera to its incredibly thin design, without any additional cost to the user.” New owners of the 5G iPod nano will be pleased to know that it comes with a larger 2.2″ display to make navigation easier on the eyes, while you get to enjoy more album art alongside the ability to shoot and view video clips in a jiffy. Apple has also included fun real-time effects in one’s video content including Thermal, Film Grain, Kaleido and X-Ray without the need to process it all over again using specialized software on a computer later on. Other features include an integrated FM radio with live pause and iTunes Tagging, where the former enables users to pause and resume playing their favorite FM radio shows – handy for various situations, while the latter lets you keep tabs on a song you like but can’t quite catch the title, letting you preview and purchase that tagged song on iTunes later on.

The fifth generation iPod nano will come in silver, black, purple, blue, green, orange and pink color choices, retailing for $149 for the 8GB model while the 16GB model is going for $179.

As a freelance writer, I receive most of the payments for my services online, but every once in a while, I get a check in the mail and have to go to the bank to deposit it.

It would appear that USAA bank is removing any reason for me to go to the bank with an iPhone app that allows me to deposit my checks virtually. All I need to do is take a picture of the front of my check with the iPhone, then turn the check over and snap the back of it. Once I hit e-send, the money is in the bank.

Of course, I don’t have an iPhone, and that is the case for many others. Another limitation on this new paperless service is it is currently only available for active-duty military personnel. I guess that just makes sense, doesn’t it? How can someone stationed in Iraq make a run to the bank?

In case you are wondering, the user of this service is required to destroy the check or, if nothing else, write “VOID” on it. If it were me, I would check just to make certain that my funds made it to the bank before I do something like that.

Digital Steering Wheel from CTA comes comes with grip with a bigger radius, not to mention a suction cup mount that adheres to any flat surface. The angle which the user wants to play is also adjustable.

It works for the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch. It comes with about 4 “mounts” that the user has to insert their particular Apple device in, and then snap it in to the center of the wheel. I have included a video that you can see after the jump if you want more info.

Clearly, I need to get an iPhone just so I can try out all these racing apps. I suppose that it is not enough just to tilt the device, isn’t it. No, someone had to go make a steering wheel for it. I believe that they call that “progress”.

Unfortunately, my source did not give any word on the price. Anyone want to care to guess? Sure that piece of plastic for MarioKart is $19.99, but this piece of plastic has a suction cup and adjustable angle. If it turns out that the CTA Digital Steering Wheel is $20 or lower, then we need to storm Nintendo.

Although still rumor, the never dying speculation of Apple releasing a Tablet Mac has taken a step towards reality with an “anonymous” analyst leaking details to Barron’s of the upcoming new MacTab.

According to this secret Judas, Apple will release an oversized iPod Touch with a 10″ screen and updated media hardware sometime between September and November. Cost? Hovering around $800-900. Just in time for the holiday rush.

But is this just more fanboy speculation or is Barron’s buying it? It’s hard not to buy into the speculation considering stories of Apple’s large multitouch screen patents and orders of a few million screens for some as yet unknown purpose.

And there’s also the notion that rumors that simply refuse to go away regarding Cupertino usually mean that sooner or later, they become reality. That’s how it worked with the iPhone, remember?

ProClip USA has recently announced a bunch of device holders which were specially designed to securely mount the recently released iPhone 3G S to car, truck and SUV dashboards alongside consoles. These were specially custom made to connect to vehicle-specific ProClip dashboard mounts, giving superior viewing and easier access. Of course, you can always attach the ProClip holders to other flat surfaces. Below are the new products available for your perusal.

The Padded Holder with Tilt Swivel is custom made with a neat and discreet design. It tilts 15 degrees in any direction for optimal viewing. Your iPhone 3G S easily slides in and out of the holder.

The Padded Holder with Tilt Swivel and Charging/USB Cable has a cable permanently attached to the base so when your device is slid into the holder it connects to the cable. Then the cable can either be plugged into your car’s 12V power outlet or any female USB connection. You can easily slide your iPhone in and out of the holder. The Holder angles 15 degrees for optimal viewing.

The Holder with Tilt Swivel and Pass-Through Connector will make docking and undocking, your iPhone 3G S, easier and more convenient. Attach your stereo cable, charging cable or any other iPhone compatible cable, to the bottom of the holder, to create a docking station. Your iPhone 3G S is conveniently on the dash within easy reach and slides in and out of the holder with one hand. The holder is custom made with a neat and discreet design and tilts 15 degrees, in any direction, for optimal viewing.

The Adjustable Holder with Tilt Swivel and Pass-Through Connector has all the benefits of the above Holder with Tilt Swivel and Pass-Through Connector plus it is designed to accommodate your encased iPhone 3G S. This Adjustable Holder will adjust from a width of 2.3″ (60mm) to 3.2″ (82mm).

The ProClip Vehicle Mount provides the mounting platform to attach any of the ProClip holders. The ProClip Vehicle Mount is the only vehicle specific, consumer installable mounting bracket in today’s global market. The mount clips into the dashboard seams, providing a very sturdy and tight fit. Average installation time is 2 minutes. No dismantling of the dashboard is required and there is no damage to the vehicle’s interior!

Guess there is a little bit of something for everyone, unless you don’t own a vehicle, of course, then you’ll just need to stash your iPhone 3G S into your pocket while you get about on public transport.

Retina-X Studios, LLC, was first off the blocks with a spy software for the iPhone, and has recently announced the immediate availability of Mobile Spy version 3.0 for the recently released Apple iPhone 3GS. Apparently, there is no other spy software that is currently compatible with the iPhone 3GS, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that Retina-X Studios’ efforts will not be in vain, but will instead be able to be all it is meant to be. This unique spy software is able to enable users to silently track GPS locations, SMS messages and calls of children or employees using a secure online control panel. Sounds as though one’s privacy has been violated, but then again parents ought to have better control and keep tabs on their kids instead of leaving them to the nanny, TV and peers throughout the formative years.

Mobile Spy will operate in complete stealth mode and there won’t be any mention of the program whatsoever on the iPhone 3GS. The software will quietly run in the background behind all other applications. The moment the software is set up, it will get to work straightaway without the need for any prompting, silently recording the entire text of all SMS text messages, information about each call and actual GPS positions. We’re guessing this will be a popular software to use when it comes to warring couples who are suspicious of one another’s movements at work or when out of town, although we’re not too sure just how such evidence will hold up in the divorce court for grounds of infidelity.

All logged activities will be silently uploaded to the user’s secure online account, where these accounts can be securely checked online from virtually any web browser without the need to access the handset. All activity logs can be viewed in real time the moment they are recorded including complete texts and maps of GPS positions. Mobile Spy is compatible with all iPhone models and smartphones powered by Windows Mobile or the Symbian OS operating system.

Pocket projectors are all the rage now, the ability to use a projector the size of an iPod to display information on a wall is a godsend for the business set, who look to expand the ability to make presentations without having to travel with expensive projectors or having to customize their presentations to what equipment is available. But while getting more popular, projectors like the PICO and the Mili Pro – which can connect to an iPhone or iPod Touch – are still in their infancy.

At it’s current state of technology, the MiLi Pro can project a 640×480 resolution image up to about 30 inches away before the lumens simply dissipate from distance. So, while it won’t project in very large meeting places, it can work for small, intimate gatherings where the presentation can be seen on a 40″ screen area.

The Pro, which has a dock for the iPod Touch/iPhone also comes with VGA and RCA connectors which enable it to work with larger LCD screens directly. And it’s own adjustable stand makes for easy tweaking to get the image just right on screen. Charges in about three hours and comes with integrated speakers as well.

But don’t forget you’re only talking about a resolution just about VHS quality, so don’t expect to be watching HD video with it.
