Vuzix reveals Blade AR smart sunglasses with Alexa capabilities

by

Vuzix has come up with some pretty interesting smart glasses in the past, but this does not mean that they should rest on their laurels. In fact, Vuzix has figured out that the next big step in the world of smart glasses would be the incorporation of Amazon Alexa capabilities. Taking advantage of Vuzix’s intellectual property patent portfolio and leadership position when it concerns the area of optics, head mounted displays and smart glasses, making this the world’s smallest and sleekest pair of AR smart glasses to roll off their production lines. Tipping the scales at less than 3 ounces, the Vuzix Blade AR is tipped to ship commercially some time early this year.

Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based voice service, and with the Vuzix Blade AR being Alexa-enabled, you can simply “talk” to Amazon Alexa on your smart sunglasses and have it do what you want. A simple voice command is able to let you play the music of your choice, hear and display the news or weather, control smart home devices, among others. As Alexa is cloud-based, it continues to gain intelligence as it is used more often, while new capabilities are constantly delivered to your device automatically. With Alexa on the Vuzix Blade AR smart sunglasses, it is so simple to use you just need to ask, and there are no pesky buttons to toggle, either.

Alex Kelly, Director of Innovation & Strategic Partnerships, Vuzix, shared, “We have all seen how Alexa has transformed interaction in homes, but in today’s world, we are constantly on the go. Having the Vuzix Blade AR Smart Sunglasses Alexa-Enabled, will allow you to not only see the digital world, but also communicate with the digital world hands free, no matter where you are.”

However, there is no word on how much the Vuzix Blade AR smart sunglasses will cost, although we do expect a slight premium over the regular pair.
