Open Gadgets Pixel LED Art Frame – Thinking in pixels

by - on May 16th, 2017

We love to hang art on our walls, but every now and again we feel the need to move things around. We don’t want to redo the entire house, but a change of scenery is never a bad idea. It would be much easier if what was on your walls could change itself, or be changed whenever you’re tired of the same ole images cropping up.

That might have sounded foreign 15 years ago, but we’ve all seen digital photo frames. If you’re not much of a picture person, then maybe this Pixel LED Art Frame would be more your speed. It hearkens back to pixelated games from the 80s, and will let you use other artists renditions (over 180 options), or create your own. It has 1,024 LEDs with each light being the equivalent of one pixel, giving you a 32 x 32 resolution. It is a tedium to create images or animations by yourself, but if that’s a hobby of yours, you only need to save your masterpiece in animated GIF format to admire your handiwork.

There are lots of customization options, with free apps for Android and Linux/raspberry pi. You can either mount this on your wall or use the included desktop stand to keep it nearby. This is going to cost you around $218, but it would be a fun way to pass the time and show off your creations to anyone who happens by your desk or home.

This thing is kind of neat, but the price is WAY too expensive. A price of around $100 would be much more appealing…
