G-Shock and Futura collaborate on new timepiece design

While some of us prefer not to wear a watch for the very obvious reason that the smartphone more or less gets the job done already, here we are with another timepiece that is extremely pleasing on the eyes – the GDX6900FTR-1 timepiece. This is one watch that was birth in commemoration of Casio’s G-Shock third collaboration launch with legendary American Graffiti Artist Futura, and you can be sure that this is not only a mechanical device that tells the time, it also does a whole lot more than that by conveying the message to whoever sees such a watch on your wrist that you are someone with plenty of taste in your fashion sense, in addition to appreciating time that you would love to keep it accurate and be punctual always.

Futura first shot to fame in the 1970s and 1980s, being one of the pioneering innovators of graffiti. Alongside his contemporaries such as Basquiat, Haring, Dondi, and Scharf, Futura’s work has always been placed on a pedestal for its explosive style and powerful expression. This time around, his career has already evolved to produce highly collectible fine art and commercial collaborations, working alongside partners that include the likes of The Clash, the Men’s US World Cup Soccer team, LeBron James, the United Nations, (RED), and Converse.

This will no doubt be a limited edition timepiece, as the GDX6900FTR-1 comes designed with Futura’s iconic signature and acclaimed atomic pattern. Some of the other special technical features include Shock Resistance, 200M Water Resistance, Auto LED (Super Illuminator) Backlight, Flash Alert, 2 Multi-Function Alarms and 1 Snooze Alarm, World Time (29 Time Zones / 48 Cities + UTC), 1/100th Sec. Stopwatch (24Hr), Countdown Timer (24Hr), 12/24 HR Formats, Mute Function, a battery that lasts up to 10 years, and a case size of 53.9mm.

Available worldwide from June 1st, the G-SHOCK x FUTURA timepiece – GDX6900FTR-1 will come with an asking price of $180 a pop.
