Nixon’s Mission Android Wear smartwatch targets surfers, snowboarders
When it comes to tough-as-nails timepieces, there is only one particular name that many of us look forward to, and that would be none other than that of Casio’s G-Shock range of timepieces. However, it looks like Nixon intends to bring a little bit of rough and tumble into the world of wearable technology through the unveiling of their Mission smartwatch.
What makes a smartwatch, well, a smartwatch? Certainly running on an operating system would help, and the Mission would be powered by Google’s Android Wear platform, where it has laid claim to being the world’s first action sport smartwatch. This will not be a smartwatch for everyone, as it would narrow down its focus to target those who are surfers and snowboarders in particular.
After all, it does come bundled with a fair number of apps that are powered by Surfline, Snocountry, and Trace. These tend to be apps that lean heavily in the direction of action sports, enabling activity-tracking in addition to allowing the timepiece to obtain real-time information along the way. This would certainly go a long way in helping those who would like to improve in their respective snow sports and for folks who always have an analytical mind and would like to figure things out on their own.
Expect a Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset to keep it running underneath the hood, where you will also be able to find an AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass protection to boot. The asking price for the Mission would be approximately $400 a pop as it arrives in a bevy of color options and up to 20 bands. Do you think that Gorilla Glass is enough to handle all the potential shocks and drops? After all, we have seen our fair share of mobile devices with Gorilla Glass not really saving the day where drops are concerned.
