LG Display introduces lighter and slimmer LCD panels
In this day and age, we would all like things to be smaller, more efficient, and if possible slimmer and lighter. After all, isn’t that the case when it comes to the smartphone that you wield in your hand? The same goes for monitors as well – from fat and chunky CRTs, LCD panels have long become the de facto standard in homes and offices, and thankfully, manufacturers of these LCD panels have not rested on their laurels to date. For instance, LG Display has just introduced a lighter and slimmer range of LCD panels that will come with advanced in-cell touch technology that will be a boon for notebooks and laptops.
In fact, mass production of Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) panels for notebooks have already kicked off, and in the long run, these panels will make the devices to be a whole lot slimmer as well as lighter – so we cannot wait to see just which manufacturer will take up this particular panel when it hits the market some time, in the second half of this year.
The new Full HD LCD panel will feature the ‘In-Cell’ touch function that happens to be an exclusive development by LG Display. This particular AIT is an advanced in-cell touch technology which will make use of a touch sensor that is embedded within the LCD panel, and hence supplant the ‘add-on’ type that would see the touch panel placed on top of the LCD.
Such panels equipped with the AIT technology have been introduced earlier for smaller devices such as the LG G4, and this would mark the very first time in which the technology is being applied to larger size devices such as notebooks. Such technology would do away with the space required for a touch function cover glass, and this results in the panel’s thickness being reduced by 1 millimeter – which is roughly 25%, and its weight would drop by 200 grams that amounts to roughly 35% when compared to a conventional 15.6” touch-embedded panel with Full HD resolution. The future for LCD panels look bright, indeed.
