The Wakē – your own personal ray of sunshine
No one wants to get up in the morning, but we have to pull ourselves from bed and participate in regular society. Of course, being jolted awake by loud sounds is not the best way to start your consciousness, but the other options will vibrate your wrist or head until you wake up. There are also options out there for lights that can slowly turn on to simulate a sunrise, but if sound is the only thing that will rouse you, it’s back to square one.
If you share a bed with someone, but don’t want to stir them with a loud alarm, then you might try using a device that can focus sound like a beam of light. It sounds crazy, but Wakē has figured out how to do it. This is a mounted device that goes above your bed which will wake you up in the morning with a focused beam of sound and light. You can control it through your smartphone, and there are no cameras involved, as it uses an IR sensor which will track your body heat rather than your shape. Once it’s time to wake up, this will pivot silently to direct light and sound to your face only.
This has batteries which are pretty efficient, meaning you’ll only need to juice it up a few times a year. The light it uses is a warm white LED that will turn on gradually, so it won’t feel like you’re going from utter darkness to staring directly into a spotlight. There’s no off button as it will sense when you’ve gotten up or not. Of course, it does have a snooze button if you really think that extra five minutes is going to help.
